Ron Jackson collected three hits, driving in one run and scoring another, while pinch-hitter Bill Melton accounted for two runs with a bases-loaded single, as the Angels defeated the White Sox, 7-3.

Tigers 6, Indians 4 at Cleveland (night game):
With two out in the fourth inning, the Tigers erupted for five runs and defeated the Indians, 6-4. Phil Mankowski singled to start the outburst and scored on a double by Pedro Garcia. Mark Wagner singled, driving in Garcia. Following a single by Marvin Lane, Rusty Staub batted in two runs with a double before scoring himself on a single by Willie Horton. Ed Glynn, with help from Steve Grilli, gained credit for his first major league victory.
