Today's scores and summaries:

Mariners 7, Angels 6 at Seattle (night game):
The Mariners, who were shut out in their first two games, broke that scoring drouth and gained their maiden victory by rallying for two runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Angels, 7-6. Dan Meyer had the distinction of driving in the first run in Mariners' history with a double that scored Dave Collins in the fourth inning. Bill Stein opened the ninth with a single and was replaced by pinch-runner Carlos Lopez, who scored the tying run from first base when Bob Stinson hit his second double of the game. After Jose Baez was inserted on the paths for Stinson, the Angels passed Craig Reynolds intentionally. That brought up Larry Milbourne, who doubled to dirve in Baez with the winning run.

Reds 6, Padres 3 at Cincinnati (night game):
The Reds were held to only six hits, but Joe Morgan batted in four runs with a homer and sacrifice fly to beat the Padres, 6-3. The Reds loaded the bases on three walks in the first inning and scored twice without benefit of a hit. Morgan smashed his homer with two aboard in the fifth and drove in the Reds' final run with his sacrifice fly in the seventh after a double by Pete Rose and an infield out. Gene Tenace hit a two-run homer for the Padres in the eighth inning.

Astros 3, Braves 2 at Houston (night game):
Joe Ferguson, playing in his first game with the Astros, smashed a homer in the 11th inning to beat the Braves, 3-2, before 25,781, the largest season-opening crowd in the Astrodome since 1967 when the turnout was 26,001. Jeff Burroughs made his N.L. debut with the Braves and hit a two-run homer in his first time at bat in the first inning.
