Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 4, Indians 3 at Baltimore (night game):
Al Bumbry, Doug DeCinces and Eddie Murray hit home runs in a rare show of power that sent the Orioles to a 4-3 victory over the Indians. A three-run sixth inning, when DeCinces hit a two-run homer and Murray followed with a solo blast, decided the game.

Red Sox 5, Tigers 3 at Boston (day game):
Butch Hobson sparked the Red Sox to a 5-3 Patriots' Day victory over the Tigers, driving in three runs with a two-run homer in the sixth inning and sacrifice fly in the eighth. Carl Yastrzemski contributed three hits, one a double that was the 882nd extra-base blow of his career, moving Yaz past Joe DiMaggio into 25th place on the career list.

Twins 8, Royals 6 at Kansas City (night game):
Five-time batting champion Rod Carew stroked four hits, one a triple, drove in two runs and scored another in leading the Twins past the Royals, 8-6. Carew's three-bagger in the seventh scored Glenn Borgmann with the deciding run. The winning pitcher was Tom Johnson, who yielded one hit in four innings.

Blue Jays 5, Yankees 1 at New York (day game):
Dave Lemanczyk pitched a four-hitter and the Yankees committed four errors to help the Blue Jays breeze to a 5-1 victory. With the score tied, 1-1, in the sixth, Doug Ault stole second and came around to score when Thurman Munson's throw sailed into center field. Ex-Yankee Otto Velez followed with his second homer of the season.

Mariners 8, Rangers 6 at Seattle (night game):
With Juan Bernhardt driving in four runs, three on a third-inning homer, and Dan Meyer and Leroy Stanton supplying solo homers, the Mariners overpowered the Rangers, 8-6. Bill Laxton pitched three scoreless innings in relief of winner Stan Thomas.

Padres 12, Braves 6 at Atlanta (night game):
Gene Tenace, Doug Rader and George Hendrick combined their talent to power the Padres to a 12-6 triumph over the Braves. Tenace drove in five runs with two homers, including a grand-slam blow in the fifth inning. Rader hit a three-run homer in the fourth and Hendrick added a solo blow in the seventh.

Phillies 3, Cubs 1 at Chicago (day game):
The Phillies struck for three runs in the sixth on home runs by Garry Maddox and Mike Schmidt to defeat the Cubs, 3-1, behind the pitching of rookie Randy Lerch and Ron Reed. Lerch, who hit a double ahead of Maddox' homer, pitched six hitless innings en route to his first major league victory. Manny Trillo broke the spell with a triple in the last of the seventh and scored on an infield out.

Dodgers 7, Reds 3 at Cincinnati (night game):
With Steve Garvey collecting three hits, including a three-run homer in the seventh, the Dodgers kept the Reds on the treadmill, 7-3. Pete Rose hit a two-run homer for the Reds in the eighth.

Expos 6, Pirates 5 at Montreal (day game):
Warren Cromartie led off the last of the 14th inning with a double, moved to third on Gary Carter's sacrifice and scored the winning run on Andre Dawson's single as the Expos shaded the Pirates, 6-5. The Pirates had taken a 4-0 lead on Ed Kirkpatrick's two-run homer in the second and two-run triple by Al Oliver in the third.

Cardinals 3, Mets 2 at St. Louis (night game):
A two-run homer by Ken Reitz in the sixth inning proved to be the deciding blow in the Cardinals' 3-2 victory over the Mets. Bob Forsch and reliever Al Hrabosky combined on a four-hitter. Dave Kingman provided the Mets' punch with a run-scoring double in the sixth and a solo homer, his fourth of the season, in the ninth.
