Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 6, Indians 5 at Baltimore (night game):
Capping a dramatic comeback, Brooks Robinson hit a pinch-homer with two men on base in the 10th inning to lift the Orioles to a 6-5 victory over the Indians. Sparked by Frank Duffy, who hit a triple, the Indians scored three times in the top half of the 10th to take a 5-2 lead. The Orioles began their rally with a run on a single by Ken Singleton, pass to Doug DeCinces and single by Lee May. Robinson then batted for Larry Harlow and delivered his game-winning homer.

Red Sox 11, Tigers 3 at Boston (night game):
Every batter in the Red Sox lineup joined in a 17-hit attack to mark an 11-3 victory over the Tigers. The Red Sox broke the game apart with six runs in the second inning, including a two-run homer by Rick Burleson and two-run double by Butch Hobson. Rick Miller, celebrating his 29th birthday, batted in three runs during the game with a double and two singles.

Angels 11, White Sox 2 at California (night game):
Joe Rudi rapped four hits, including a homer with two men on base, to lead the Angels' attack in support of Frank Tanana, who breezed to his third victory, defeating the White Sox, 11-2. Dan Briggs and Bruce Bochte contributed solo swats. White Sox runs came on round-trippers by Jim Spencer and Eric Soderholm.

Royals 11, Twins 3 at Kansas City (night game):
Batting twice in the fifth inning, Frank White led off with a homer and then capped the seven-run outburst with a two-run double as the Royals trounced the Twins, 11-3. Amos Otis drove in four runs for the Royals, two with a triple in the third inning and two more with a homer in the fifth.

Blue Jays 8, Yankees 3 at New York (day game):
Rookie lefthander Jerry Garvin scattered eight hits and gained his third straight victory as the Blue Jays defeated the Yankees, 8-3. The Blue Jays scored four runs in the fourth inning and knocked out Gil Patterson, who was making his major league debut. Ex-Yankee Otto Velez singled a run home during the outburst and batted in another with a double in the sixth. The defeat was the fifth straight and eighth in 10 games for the Yankees.

Brewers 5, A's 4 at Oakland (day game):
A two-run rally in the ninth inning, featuring a double by Jamie Quirk and triple by Gorman Thomas, enabled the Brewers to defeat the Athletics, 5-4. Cecil Cooper hit a homer and sacrifice fly as the Brewers took a 3-0 lead, but the A's went ahead in the eighth when Earl Williams and Rich McKinney each hit for the circuit with a man on base. After Quirk's double and Thomas' triple tied the score in the ninth, Steve Brye bounced to Wayne Gross, who threw home, but Thomas kicked the ball out of catcher Manny Sanguillen's mitt and scored the winning run.

Rangers 3, Mariners 1 at Seattle (night game):
The Rangers were on the verge of being shut out, but Toby Harrah came through with a three-run homer in the ninth inning to beat the Mariners, 3-1. Gary Wheelock, bidding for his third straight victory, gave up a one-out single by Claudell Washington in the ninth but seemed to have the game in hand when Mike Hargrove forced Washington. However, the rookie then walked Ken Henderson before serving his gopher pitch to Harrah.

Braves 4, Padres 1 at Atlanta (night game):
Winning for the third straight time, Dick Ruthven yielded only five hits and struck out 10 while pitching the Braves to a 4-1 victory over the Padres. The only run off Ruthven was unearned on one of the righthander's two errors in the game. Gary Matthews and Rowland Office hit homers. Matthews' blow, with a man on base in the fourth inning, was his first in an Atlanta uniform.

Phillies 7, Cubs 5 at Chicago (day game):
Larry Bowa, now in his eighth season, hit the fifth homer of his major league career to supply the Phillies' deciding run in a 7-5 victory over the Cubs. The Phils racked up five runs in the third, two scoring on a triple by Ted Sizemore, before Bowa followed in the next stanza with his round-tripper. Jerry Morales batted in four runs for the Cubs with a single and pair of doubles.

Giants 7, Astros 4 at Houston (night game):
Willie McCovey drove in two runs with a single in the sixth inning to break a 4-4 tie and send the Giants on their way to a 7-4 victory over the Astros. Bill Madlock was hit by a pitch and Darrell Evans singled before McCovey's hit pinned the defeat on Floyd Bannister, who was on the mound in relief in his first major league appearance.

Expos 6, Pirates 0 at Montreal (day game):
A bases-loaded triple by Warren Cromartie highlighted the Expos' support for Don Stanhouse, who pitched a five-hitter and shut out the Pirates, 6-0. Cromartie's triple came in the sixth inning when the Expos knocked out Larry Demery while scoring five runs. Ellis Valentine accounted for the final tally with a homer in the eighth.

Mets 5, Cardinals 2 at St. Louis (night game):
The Cardinals put the leadoff man on base in seven different innings but failed to capitalize on their opportunties and lost to the Mets, 5-2. The Cards' only runs off Jerry Koosman came in the second when Ted Simmons singled and Hector Cruz homered. The Mets caught up in the fifth and went ahead in the sixth when Joe Torre walked, Roy Staiger sacrificed, John Stearns smashed an infield hit off the foot of Pete Falcone and Ed Kranepool hit a sacrifice fly, scoring pinch-runner John Milner, after Clay Carroll took over in relief for the Cards.
