Taking advantage of three errors, the Brewers scored five unearned runs in the eighth inning and defeated the Angels, 10-9. Joe Rudi homered with a man on base for the Angels, who were locked in a 5-5 tie before two errors by Tony Solaita and one by Ike Hampton helped the Brewers score in their big inning. Solaita made partial amends with a two-run homer in the Angels' half of the eighth and Don Baylor narrowed the gap with another two-run smash in the ninth before Bill Castro saved the game for the Brewers.

[DH] Yankees 10, Indians 1 (day game) / Yankees 7, Indians 1 at Cleveland (day game):
The Yankees extended their winning streak to five games with a 10-1 and 7-1 sweep of a doubleheader with the Indians, who were going the other way with six consecutive defeats. Chris Chambliss knocked in six runs with a bases-loaded double and homer to lead the Yankees' attack in the opener. Roy White hit a homer and Graig Nettles and Willie Randolph drove in two runs apiece to highlight the scoring in the nightcap.

[DH] Orioles 3, Tigers 1 (day game) / Tigers 2, Orioles 1 at Detroit (day game):
Backed by three homers, Jim Palmer pitched the Orioles to a 3-1 victory in the first game of a doubleheader, but the Tigers came back to win the second game, 2-1, on a two-run smash by Mickey Stanley. Tom Shopay homered for the Orioles in the fourth inning of the opener, and in the sixth Ken Singleton and Lee May connected for the circuit on consecutive pitches thrown by Dave Roberts. Palmer was stopped on his string of 23 straight scoreless innings when Aurelio Rodriguez homered in the Tigers' half of the sixth. In the nightcap, the Orioles scored their run in the third inning on singles by Kiko Garcia and Billy Smith around a sacrifice, but the Tigers gained their victory when Jason Thompson walked and Stanley smashed his round-tripper off Mike Flanagan in the fifth.

[DH] White Sox 12, A's 5 (day game) / A's 11, White Sox 4 at Oakland (day game):
