Today's scores and summaries:

Yankees 9, Orioles 6 at Baltimore (night game):
The revived Yankees pounded the Orioles, 9-6, for their sixth victory in succession as Reggie Jackson and Thurman Munson hit two-run homers. Jackson, booed constantly by the fans for playing out his option with the Orioles in 1976, also contributed two doubles and scored three runs.

Angels 11, A's 6 at California (night game):
Slump-ridden Tony Solaita drove in three runs with a homer and two singles to spark the Angels to an 11-6 victory over the Athletics. Nolan Ryan yielded 10 hits and seven walks in 5 2/3 innings, but emerged the winner with help from reliever Sid Monge. A's manager Jack McKeon protested the game after being ejected in the second inning for arguing that Ryan had balked on an attempted pickoff play.

[DH] Blue Jays 4, Red Sox 3 (day game) / Red Sox 6, Blue Jays 5 at Toronto (day game):
Otto Velez had five hits, including two home runs and two doubles, as the Blue Jays divided a doubleheader with the Red Sox. The Blue Jays won the opener, 4-3, on Velez' two-run homer in the eighth inning, and the Red Sox rallied to take the nightcap, 6-5, on Rick Burleson's sacrifice fly with the bases full in the eighth.

Reds 23, Braves 9 at Atlanta (night game):
The Reds erupted for six runs in the first inning and scored 12 runs in the fifth while overpowering the Braves, 23-9. George Foster hit three-run homers in the first and fifth innings and doubled, scoring another run, in the third. The Reds' 12-run fifth tied the modern record for runs in an inning set by the 1926 New York Giants against the Boston Braves.

Dodgers 7, Padres 3 at San Diego (night game):
Ron Cey hammered his major league-leading sixth and seventh home runs and Steve Garvey hit No. 5 in the Dodgers' 7-3 triumph over the Padres. Dave Winfield's two-run homer in the third inning was one of seven hits off Rick Rhoden, who posted his third victory.
