Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 3, Orioles 2 at Baltimore (night game):
A homer by Don Baylor in the 11th inning carried the Angels to a 3-2 victory over the Orioles behind a route-going performance by Frank Tanana. After Ken Singleton broke a 1-1 tie with a circuit clout in the seventh inning, Jim Palmer was within two outs of victory in his duel with Tanana, but Joe Rudi then tied the score with a round-tripper. Dyar Miller took over in relief of Palmer in the 11th and wound up the loser on Baylor's blow.

Red Sox 7, A's 4 at Boston (night game):
Dock Ellis, obtained in a deal with the Yankees, failed in his first start for the Athletics, giving up three homers in five innings and losing to the Red Sox, 7-4. Carlton Fisk connected off Ellis with two men on base in the second. Then in the fifth, after Denny Doyle singled, Carl Yastrzemski and George Scott hit back-to-back homers. The A's also had three round-trippers off Fergie Jenkins, two by Wayne Gross and one by Mitchell Page, but they accounted for only three runs.

Rangers 2, White Sox 1 at Chicago (night game):
A wild pitch by Steve Stone in the sixth inning handed the Rangers their deciding run in a 2-1 victory over the White Sox. Jorge Orta homered for the White Sox and Sandy Alomar for the Rangers. Stone gave up a double by Bert Campaneris in the sixth, walked two batters and uncorked his wild pitch, allowing Campy to score.

Royals 6, Blue Jays 1 at Kansas City (night game):

Although collecting 17 hits, the Tigers were not able to beat the Twins until Ron LeFlore scored an unearned run in the 10th inning to account for a 6-5 victory. The Tigers, in fact, were losing, 5-4, until Mickey Stanley batted for Phil Mankowski in the eighth and came through with a homer to tie the score. Reggie Smith was forced to leave the game with a sore leg in the third inning and John Hale, who replaced him in the Dodgers' outfield, connected for three straight hits.

Astros 11, Pirates 3 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Floyd Bannister hurled the route and gained his first major league victory when the Astros trounced the Pirates, 11-3. The Astros knocked out Jerry Reuss in the fourth inning with a five-run blast.
