Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 3, Angels 2 at Baltimore (day game):
Leading off in the 10th inning, Pat Kelly hit his second homer of the game to bring the Orioles a 3-2 victory over the Angels.

Red Sox 6, A's 4 at Boston (day game):
Carlton Fisk hit two homers and drove in five runs to lead the Red Sox to a 6-4 victory over the Athletics. Fisk's first homer with a man on base tied the score at 2-2 in the fourth inning. The A's took advantage of three errors, including one by Fisk, to score twice in the seventh. However, the Red Sox loaded the bases in the eighth on a double by Rick Burleson, single by Steve Dillard and pass to George Scott. After Carl Yastrzemski batted in one run with a sacrifice fly, Fisk came up and smashed his second homer of the game.

White Sox 12, Rangers 4 at Chicago (day game):
Exploding for eight runs in the first inning, the White Sox smashed six extra-base hits, one short of the modern major league record for one inning, while trouncing the Rangers, 12-4. The barrage included a homer by Jorge Orta with two men on base, another by Jim Essian with one aboard, a two-run triple by Oscar Gamble and doubles by Chet Lemon, Ralph Garr and Jim Spencer. Lemon added to the top-heavy score by hitting for the circuit with two men on base in the second.

Royals 8, Blue Jays 2 at Kansas City (day game):
Nine batters in the Royals' lineup participated in a 12-hit attack during an 8-2 victory over the Blue Jays. Al Cowens and Fred Patek each drove in two runs.

[DH] Brewers 7, Indians 3 (day game) / Indians 8, Brewers 5 at Milwaukee (day game):
The Brewers tagged Wayne Garland for six runs in the first two innings and posted a 7-3 victory in the opener of a doubleheader, but Ray Fosse and Johnny Grubb drove in three runs apiece in the nightcap to lead the Indians to an 8-5 win. A triple by Cecil Cooper helped the Brewers score three times off Garland in the first and Robin Yount accounted for three more runs with a homer in the second. Garland steadied after that and pitched the route, but it was too late. In the second game, Fosse batted in two runs with a double and Grubb tripled with the bases loaded as the Indians piled up six runs in the second inning. Fosse got his third RBI with a double in the fifth.

Twins 6, Tigers 5 at Minnesota (day game):
The Twins rallied for four runs in the ninth inning, scoring their last three runs after two men were out, to overtake the Tigers, 6-5. The Tigers built up a 5-2 lead with a three-run homer by Tom Veryzer and solo shots by Ben Oglivie and Steve Kemp. Rob Wilfong homered for the Twins. With one out in the ninth, Mike Cubbage doubled to start the Twins' rally. After Rich Chiles was retired for the second out, Larry Hisle singled to score Cubbage. Dan Ford was hit by a pitch. Craig Kusick hit a pinch-double, driving in Hisle and Ford. Jerry Terrell ran for Kusick and scored the winning run on a single by Roy Smalley.

Yankees 5, Mariners 2 at New York (day game):
Although the Mariners tagged Ken Holtzman for 10 hits, the Yankees executed four double plays to enable their lefthander to post a 5-2 victory. Thurman Munson homered for the Yankees' first run. With the score tied, 2-2, Munson singled in the sixth, moved up on a pass to Reggie Jackson and scored on a double by Chris Chambliss. After an intentional pass to Carlos May, Paul Blair walked to force in another run.

Cubs 4, Reds 1 at Cincinnati (day game):
Bruce Sutter pitched 3 1/3 innings of scoreless ball in relief of Rick Reuschel to preserve the Cubs' 4-1 victory over the Reds, who were stopped on their five-game winning streak. The Cubs counted their first two runs in the sixth on an infield hit by Ivan DeJesus, Dave Concepcion's first error of the season on a grounder by Greg Gross, a double by Bill Buckner and sacrifice fly by Bobby Murcer. Sutter took over with a 2-1 lead and got more breathing room when Jerry Morales drove in the Cubs' last two runs with a double in the ninth.

Expos 6, Dodgers 2 at Los Angeles (day game):
Del Unser drove in four runs, including three with a homer, and Gary Carter rapped two round-trippers as the Expos posted a 6-2 victory to break the Dodgers' eight-game winning streak. Unser accounted for his first RBI with a sacrifice fly and Carter hit a homer in the fifth inning when the Expos took a 2-0 lead. After the Dodgers tied the score, Chris Speier tripled, Tony Perez walked and Unser connected for the circuit in the sixth.

Pirates 4, Astros 3 at Pittsburgh (day game):
After tying the game with a homer in the ninth inning, Al Oliver hit a two-out single in the 10th, scoring Omar Moreno, to give the Pirates a 4-3 victory over the Astros. Willie Stargell accounted for the Pirates' first two runs with a pair of homers. After Oliver knotted the count with his circuit clout, Moreno singled with one out in the 10th and stole second. Ed Ott popped up. The Astros then elected to pass Dave Parker in a move that failed when Oliver rapped his winning single.

Mets 8, Padres 2 at San Diego (day game):
Lenny Randle, obtained from the Rangers, who got rid of the second baseman because of his attack on manager Frank Lucchesi, made an outstanding debut as a starter with the Mets in an 8-2 victory over the Padres. Randle tripled in his first time at bat in the N. L. and collected two other hits in five trips and also stole home.

Phillies 7, Giants 2 at San Francisco (day game):
Larry Christenson drove in the Phillies' first two runs with a single and pitched a six-hitter to defeat the Giants, 7-2. Bob Boone also accounted for two RBIs with a single and sacrifice fly. Christenson had a shutout in the works until Willie McCovey hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning.

Cardinals 8, Braves 0 at St. Louis (day game):
Eric Rasmussen pitched a five-hitter and batterymate Ted Simmons batted in three runs as the Cardinals defeated the Braves, 8-0, to sweep the three-game series. Simmons knocked in two runs with a triple in the first inning and added an RBI with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
