Today's scores and summaries:

A's 2, Orioles 0 at Baltimore (night game):
With Rick Langford and reliever Dave Giusti combining on a four-hitter, the Athletics downed the Orioles, 2-0. The A's managed only four hits themselves, but turned four walks and a run-scoring single by Dick Allen into two first-inning runs.

Royals 3, White Sox 1 at Kansas City (night game):
The Royals scored two runs in the eighth on a wild pitch by reliever Lerrin LaGrow and Amos Otis' sacrifice fly, to overcome the White Sox, 3-1, behind Dennis Leonard's four-hit pitching.

Brewers 3, Blue Jays 1 at Toronto (night game):
Rookie Moose Haas won first his major league game by pitching the Brewers to a 3-1 victory over the Blue Jays. The Brewers counted twice in the sixth inning, on a run-scoring single by Ken McMullen and Charlie Moore's infield out. Otto Velez hit his seventh home run, accounting for the Blue Jays' only run, in the seventh inning.

Pirates 11, Braves 1 at Atlanta (night game):
With Bruce Kison pitching a three-hitter and Ed Ott, Omar Moreno, Willie Stargell and Fernando Gonzalez hitting homers, the Pirates dealt the Braves their ninth straight defeat, 11-1. Ott touched off the power show with his first major league homer in the first inning. Brian Asselstine accounted for the Braves' lone run with a homer in the second.

Reds 3, Cardinals 2 at Cincinnati (night game):
George Foster's leadoff double triggered a two-run rally in the ninth inning that enabled the Reds to subdue the Cardinals, 3-2. Cesar Geronimo's infield hit moved Foster to third from where he scored the tying run on Mike Lum's pinch-single off Mike Tyson's glove. Geronimo, trying to advance to third, came around to score when the throw from right field skipped off Hector Cruz' glove.

Dodgers 3, Mets 1 at Los Angeles (night game):
The Dodgers, who saw their eight-game winning streak broken the day before, scored two runs in the eighth to down the Mets, 3-1. With the score tied, 1-1, Davey Lopes doubled and scored the go-ahead run on Bill Russell's single. Russell advanced to third on an error by Mike Vail and tallied the final run on a single by Steve Garvey. The Mets' run came on Vail's first homer in two seasons, in the second inning.

Padres 4, Phillies 3 at San Diego (night game):
Successive singles by pinch-hitter Bobby Valentine, Gene Richards and Bill Almon produced the winning run as the Padres beat the Phillies, 4-3, and ended their eight-game losing streak.
