Today's scores and summaries:

Mariners 10, Red Sox 8 at Boston (night game):
Two homers by Bill Stein and one by Carlos Lopez helped the Mariners power their way to a 10-8 victory over the Red Sox. The Mariners scored five runs in the first inning, capping their outburst when Stein came up with two men on base and hit his first homer of the season. Stein added a solo shot in the fourth. Lopez' homer with a man on base in the seventh was the first of his major league career.

Twins 4, Indians 3 at Cleveland (night game):
Butch Wynegar hit a homer that tied the score in the eighth inning and then contributed a single to set up the winning run in the 10th as the Twins defeated the Indians, 4-3. In the overtime stanza, Lyman Bostock led off with a single and stole second. After advancing to third on Wynegar's single, Bostock scored on a sacrifice fly by Mike Cubbage.

Rangers 13, Tigers 0 at Detroit (night game):
Bert Blyleven, returning to action with the Rangers after serving a three-day suspension for throwing a beanball, pitched a four-hitter and breezed to a 13-0 victory over the Tigers for his second straight shutout. Ken Henderson hit a three-run homer in the first inning before the Rangers went on a rampage with seven runs in the second, featuring a two-run triple by Toby Harrah. Bump Wills hit his first major league homer in the ninth.

White Sox 8, Royals 4 at Kansas City (night game):
Richie Zisk's eighth homer of the season, coming after a single by Alan Bannister in the fifth inning, provided the deciding blow for the White Sox in an 8-4 victory over the Royals. After Zisk's smash accounted for a 5-4 lead, the White Sox added three insurance runs in the eighth, two scoring on a triple by Chet Lemon. Bannister had four hits and scored three runs.

Yankees 8, Angels 1 at New York (night game):
Bucky Dent hit the first grand slam of his career and Reggie Jackson had a two-run homer as the Yankees exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning to beat the Angels, 8-1. Graig Nettles also had a homer accounting for the Yankees' initial run in the second. Mike Torrez made his first start since being acquired from the Athletics and pitched five innings before leaving the game with a blister on his pitching hand. Dick Tidrow finished.

Brewers 6, Blue Jays 2 at Toronto (night game):
Rookie righthander Barry Cort, who was born in Toronto, made his first major league start for the Brewers and defeated the Blue Jays, 6-2. Don Money batted in two runs for the Brewers with a single and homer, while Von Joshua also accounted for a pair with a single.

Pirates 8, Braves 7 at Atlanta (night game):
The Braves' losing streak was extended to 10 games when pinch-hitter Ed Kirkpatrick lofted a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the 11th inning to provide the Pirates with an 8-7 victory. Dave Parker hit two homers for the Pirates, driving in three runs. Jeff Burroughs had five RBIs for the Braves, including a two-run homer that tied the score at 7-7 in the seventh. In the 11th, Phil Garner singled. After a sacrifice and intentional pass to Ed Ott, Bill Robinson singled to load the bases, setting the stage for Kirkpatrick's fly.

Cubs 9, Astros 0 at Chicago (day game):
Ray Burris pitched a five-hitter and beat the Astros, 9-0, for the first shutout to the credit of the Cubs' staff this season. Bill Buckner hit three doubles in support of Burris. After his third two-bagger in the seventh inning, Buckner scored on singles by Bobby Murcer and Joe Wallis. Manny Trillo followed with a homer to cap the four-run frame.

Dodgers 4, Mets 1 at Los Angeles (night game):
Winning for the third straight time, Burt Hooton yielded only four hits and pitched the Dodgers to a 4-1 victory over the Mets. Hooton drove in the Dodgers' first run with a single in the second inning and Rick Monday accounted for the three other tallies with a pair of doubles.

Phillies 8, Padres 7 at San Diego (night game):
A single by Bob Boone in the 10th inning scored Ollie Brown and gave the Phillies an 8-7 victory over the Padres. Brown beat out a grounder toward third and advanced to second on an infield hit by Jerry Martin before Boone rapped his single.

Expos 3, Giants 2 at San Francisco (night game):
Two unearned runs on errors by Tim Foli and Mike Sadek enabled the Expos to post a 3-2 victory over the Giants, who dropped their fifth straight game. In their first meeting since the Expos obtained Chris Speier for Foli, Speier was safe on an error by Foli in the first inning and scored on a double by Ellis Valentine. Four singles, together with an error by Sadek on a throw to the plate, produced the Expos' two other runs in the seventh.
