Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 4, Mariners 2 at Baltimore (night game):
Eddie Murray hit a homer and scored again after being safe on an error to account for two of the Orioles' runs in a 4-2 victory over the Mariners. After Leroy Stanton homered for the Mariners in the fourth inning to tie the score at 1-1, Murray came back with his round-tripper in the Orioles' half. Murray reached base on an error in the sixth and scored on a triple by Doug DeCinces. Pat Kelly added a run by lofting a sacrifice fly.

Red Sox 3, Angels 0 at Boston (day game):
The winner of a duel with the Angels' ace southpaw, rookie righthander Bob Stanley of the Red Sox shut out the Angels, 3-0, and handed Frank Tanana his first loss of the season. Tanana retired the first 11 batters, striking out five, before Jim Rice walked in the fourth inning and scored on a triple by George Scott. Dwight Evans and Bobby Darwin doubled for another run in the fifth. Steve Dillard accounted for the final Red Sox tally with a home run in the eighth.

White Sox 5, Indians 2 at Cleveland (day game):
Richie Zisk hit his 10th homer of the season, connecting with a man on base in the eighth inning, for the deciding blow as the White Sox defeated the Indians, 5-2, and handed Wayne Garland his fourth straight setback. Larvell Blanks and Buddy Bell belted back-to-back homers for the Indians in the sixth to tie the score at 2-2 before Alan Bannister rapped his third single of the game and scored ahead of Zisk when the ex-National Leaguer put the blast on Garland.

Tigers 6, Brewers 2 at Detroit (day game):
Dave Rozema scattered seven hits and pitched the Tigers to a 6-2 victory over the Brewers. Rusty Staub smashed a homer for the Tigers and Steve Kemp scored four runs after reaching base on a triple, single and two walks. The Brewers' runs came on round-trippers by Sixto Lezcano and Sal Bando.

Yankees 11, A's 2 at New York (day game):
The Yankees gained their 13th victory in the last 15 games, routing the Athletics, 11-2, and took over sole possession of first place in the East Division ahead of the Brewers. Roy White hit his second three-run homer in two days, plus a single for a fourth RBI. Mickey Rivers also connected for the circuit with two men on base and Graig Nettles added a solo swat to enable Don Gullett to breeze to victory. Thurman Munson drove in a run with a single and extended his batting streak to 15 games.

Royals 6, Rangers 5 at Texas (night game):
A sacrifice fly by Joe Zdeb in the 10th inning scored Frank White and gave the Royals a 6-5 victory over the Rangers in a game marked by a brawl that resulted in the banishment of five Rangers and one Royals' player. The trouble broke out after Darrell Porter, Royals' catcher, bumped Bump Wills when the Rangers' rookie was caught off third on a suicide squeeze attempt that failed. Several fights erupted as both benches cleared. Wills, Claudell Washington, Willie Horton, coach Pat Corrales and manager Frank Luchessi of the Rangers were thrown out of the game, along with Porter as the only Royal to be ejected. The Royals scored three unearned runs in the fifth inning and made it 5-2 with homers by Amos Otis and Al Cowens in the sixth before the Rangers rallied to tie the score in the ninth with the aid of a homer by Mike Hargrove. In the 10th, White walked, took third on a single by Hal McRae and scored the winning run on Zdeb's fly.

Twins 4, Blue Jays 1 at Toronto (day game):
The Twins broke away with three runs in the first inning, two scoring on a triple by Mike Cubbage, and defeated the Blue Jays, 4-1. After Larry Hisle doubled and Roy Smalley singled, Hisle scored as Rod Carew wiped out Smalley by grounding into a double play. Then, after a pass to Butch Wynegar and single by Lyman Bostock, Cubbage rapped his triple.

Cubs 11, Braves 4 at Chicago (day game):
The Cubs piled up 15 hits, including Manny Trillo's third homer in five games, and swamped the Braves, 11-4. The Cubs had a lead of only 4-3 going into the fifth inning when they broke the game apart with five runs. Singles by Larry Biittner, Bobby Murcer, Jerry Morales and Trillo produced the first run of the outburst and kayoed Phil Niekro, who was tagged with his sixth straight loss. A walk to Steve Ontiveros, sacrifice fly by George Mitterwald, single by Bill Buckner and another sacrifice fly by Ivan DeJesus added the other tallies.

Phillies 7, Dodgers 4 at Los Angeles (night game):
Atoning for his error, Larry Bowa batted in the tie-breaking run in the 13th inning and Mike Schmidt followed with a homer to sew up the victory for the Phillies, who defeated the Dodgers, 7-4. The Dodgers were in the game only because Bowa's error led to four unearned runs in the first. The Phillies, after picking up two tallies, tied the game in the eighth when Garry Maddox singled with the bases loaded. In the 13th, Jay Johnstone walked, moved to second as Maddox was retired and scored on Bowa's single. Schmidt's homer then put the game out of the Dodgers' reach.

Pirates 12, Reds 10 at Pittsburgh (day game):
Putting on a slugging show for national television viewers, the Pirates defeated the Reds, 12-10, in a game that featured 14 extra-base hits including six homers. Willie Stargell smashed two and Al Oliver one for the Pirates, while the Reds had round-trippers by Dan Driessen, George Foster and Joe Morgan. The Pirates came out ahead with the aid of an error by Ken Griffey, who dropped a line drive by Duffy Dyer with the bases loaded in the seventh inning as two runs scored. Grant Jackson, the third of four Pirate pitchers, then doubled to drive in another pair. Terry Forster, in relief, gained credit for his first N. L. victory.

Expos 7, Padres 6 at San Diego (night game):
The Padres committed six errors to tie the San Diego club record while losing to the Expos, 7-6. Only two of the Expos' runs were unearned, but that was enough to decide the outcome. Tony Perez and Del Unser hit homers for the Expos, while Dave Winfield and Gene Tenace rapped round-trippers for the Padres, each with a man on base. Tenace accounted for a third RBI with a double.

Mets 6, Giants 0 at San Francisco (day game):
Jerry Koosman halted the Mets' five-game losing streak by pitching a three-hitter and shutting out the Giants, 6-0. The Mets' lefthander also batted in two runs with a single in the fourth inning.

Astros 3, Cardinals 1 at St. Louis (night game):
Joe Ferguson struck back at his former teammates by smashing a two-run homer in the 11th inning to give the Astros a 3-1 victory over the Cardinals. Willie Crawford, also formerly with the Cards, singled ahead of Ferguson's homer.
