Today's scores and summaries:

[DH] Indians 1, Brewers 0 (night game) / Indians 7, Brewers 4 at Cleveland (night game):
The combination of a homer by Larvell Blanks and five-hit pitching by Jim Bibby produced a 1-0 victory and started the Indians off to a sweep of a twi-night doubleheader with the Brewers. The Indians won the second game, 7-4, with an attack that included a bases-loaded triple by John Lowenstein and two-run homer by Rico Carty.

Twins 7, Tigers 5 at Detroit (night game):
Bob Randall drove in three runs, including the decisive pair with a double in the sixth inning, to enable the Twins to defeat the Tigers, 7-5. Larry Hisle contributed a homer with a man on base. Randall's double with two out broke a 4-4 tie and followed an error that made both runs unearned.

Angels 6, Royals 1 at Kansas City (night game):
Nolan Ryan yielded only two hits while pitching the Angels to a 6-1 victory over the Royals. Amos Otis accounted for both hits with a single in the fifth inning and double in the sixth. Joe Rudi homered for the Angels and Jerry Remy knocked in two runs with a pair of singles.

Rangers 3, White Sox 2 at Texas (night game):
Bump Wills drew a walk with the bases loaded and two out in the ninth inning, forcing in Mike Hargrove, to bring the Rangers a 3-2 victory over the White Sox.

Blue Jays 9, Mariners 3 at Toronto (night game):
Hot-hitting Al Woods, who went into the game with an average of .372, collected a triple, double and bunt single to lead the Blue Jays to a 9-3 victory over the Mariners. Woods batted in two runs and scored twice. Jerry Garvin pitched seven innings for the Blue Jays and gained his fifth consecutive victory.

Cubs 11, Astros 5 at Houston (night game):
Paced by Steve Ontiveros and George Mitterwald, who drove in four runs apiece, the Cubs defeated the Astros, 11-5, for their sixth straight victory. Ontiveros accounted for his RBIs with a double and two singles, while Mitterwald homered with two men on base in the fourth inning and batted in another run with a single in the ninth.

Expos 4, Dodgers 3 at Montreal (night game):
The first night game ever played at Olympic Stadium saw the Expos defeat the Dodgers, 4-3, with their winning run scoring in the seventh inning on two walks and a double by Warren Cromartie. The victory went to Steve Rogers (4-1) for the righthander's fourth straight complete game triumph, two coming over the Dodgers.

Phillies 3, Giants 0 at Philadelphia (night game):
On a winning streak since losing the season opener, Steve Carlton pitched the Phillies to a 3-0 victory over the Giants. The triumph was the lefthander's fourth in a row. The Phils jumped on Terry Cornutt, making his first major league start, for two runs in the first inning on a triple by Larry Bowa, sacrifice fly by Jay Johnstone and homer by Greg Luzinski. Mike Schmidt wrapped up the scoring with a round-tripper in the sixth.

[DH] Pirates 3, Braves 0 (night game) / Pirates 2, Braves 1 at Pittsburgh (night game):
The Braves made things closer but still went down to their 15th and 16th consecutive defeats in a twi-night doubleheader with the Pirates, who posted 3-0 and 2-1 victories to extend their winning streak to 10 games. Jim Rooker, who pitched 6 2/3 innings, and Kent Tekulve, who finished, combined to shut out the Braves in the opener. Frank Taveras and Phil Garner had three hits each for the Pirates and drove in a run apiece. In the nightcap, Dave Parker, who extended his batting streak to 21 games, knocked in both Pirate runs with a triple in the third inning. Al Oliver was right behind Parker with a 15-game streak.

Reds 2, Cardinals 1 at St. Louis (night game):
Gary Nolan made his first start of the season, pitched five innings and gained credit for the victory when the Reds nipped the Cardinals. 2-1. Nolan had been out of action because of an infected foot and mononucleosis. Ed Armbrister, who singled and scored in the second inning, batted in the Reds' deciding run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
