Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 6, Red Sox 2 at California (night game):
The Angels, who hit only 24 homers at Anaheim Stadium during the entire 1976 season, equalled that total when Jerry Remy connected for the circuit during the course of a 6-2 victory over the Red Sox. Remy also drove in another run with a sacrifice fly. Bobby Bonds accounted for two RBIs with a single.

Blue Jays 3, Brewers 1 at Milwaukee (night game):
Ron Fairly singled with the bases loaded in the third inning, driving in two runs and enabling the Blue Jays to defeat the Brewers, 3-1. Bob Bailor walked, Roy Howell beat out an infield hit and Otto Velez drew a pass to set the stage for Fairly's hit.

Twins 10, Indians 4 at Minnesota (night game):
Butch Wynegar batted in four runs to set the pace as the Twins defeated the Indians, 10-4, for their fifth straight victory. Wynegar picked up his first RBI with a double in the second inning. Rod Carew homered in the third. With the score tied, 4-4, the Twins loaded the bases in the fifth on a single by Rob Wilfong and passes to Larry Hisle and Carew. Wynegar then singled on a 3-2 pitch, driving in all three runners.

Yankees 5, A's 2 at Oakland (day game):
A single by Chris Chambliss with the bases loaded in the 15th inning led the Yankees to a 5-2 victory over the Athletics. Manny Sanguillen and Dick Allen hit homers for the A's in the ninth to send the game into overtime. In the 15th, Dell Alston made his first appearance at bat for the Yankees and doubled. Willie Randolph walked and, after a sacrifice by Mickey Rivers, Thurman Munson was passed intentionally to load the bases. Chambliss then hit his single, driving in two runs, and a third counter followed on a sacrifice bunt by Carlos May.

Mariners 10, Orioles 2 at Seattle (night game):
Skip Jutze had the distinction of hitting the Mariners' first grand slam as the expansion club defeated the Orioles, 10-2. The Mariners began flexing their muscles in the first inning when Carlos Lopez and Bill Stein hit homers, Stein's blow coming with a man on base. Doug DeCinces accounted for the Orioles' pair with a round-tripper in the second, but the Mariners put the game away with a five-run blast in the third. After Rupper tJones drove in one run, Jutze hit his grand slam off Dyar Miller, who had taken the mound in relief of Rudy May.

Rangers 3, Tigers 1 at Texas (night game):
Dave Rozema, who had won three straight games, was handed his first major league defeat when the Rangers beat the Tigers, 3-1. After the Tigers nicked Doyle Alexander for a run in the first inning, Juan Beniquez walked in the third, stole second and scored the tying run when Claudell Washington doubled. Washington then stole third and continued home on a wild throw by catcher Milt May. Washington also scored an insurance run for the Rangers in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Willie Horton.

Braves 9, Expos 6 at Atlanta (night game):
Pinch-hitting with two out in the ninth inning, Biff Pocoroba came through with a grand slam to lift the Braves to a 9-6 victory over the Expos. A three-run homer by Jeff Burroughs in the third and solo swat by Gary Matthews in the sixth staked the Braves to a 4-1 lead, but the Expos came back to grab a 6-5 lead in the top half of the ninth. With two away in the Braves' half, Junior Moore singled off Joe Kerrigan. Bill Atkinson relieved. Burroughs walked and Matthews singled to load the bases before Pocoroba batted for Vic Correll and hit his grand slam.

Cubs 23, Padres 6 at Chicago (day game):
Taking advantage of a 23-mile-an-hour wind blowing out of Wrigley Field, the Cubs smashed seven homers, twice hitting three in one inning, while walloping the Padres, 23-6. In the third, Larry Biittner homered with a man on base and Steve Ontiveros with two aboard. After a walk to George Mitterwald and run-scoring double by Ivan DeJesus, Gene Clines hit for the circuit. Biittner, Bobby Murcer and Jerry Morales homered in succession in the fifth. The Cubs then exploded for eight runs in the sixth before Dave Rosello accounted for their seventh homer in the eighth. The Padres had a homer by Bobby Valentine.

Pirates 3, Reds 0 at Cincinnati (night game):
Ed Ott singled home Rennie Stennett to break a scoreless tie in the eighth inning and Willie Stargell followed with a two-run homer in the ninth to clinch the Pirates' 3-0 victory over the Reds. Stennett doubled and advanced to third on a sacrifice before crossing the plate on Ott's hit. Dave Parker singled ahead of Stargell's homer.

Astros 5, Cardinals 2 at Houston (night game):
Two homers by Cliff Johnson and one by Enos Cabell powered the Astros to a 5-2 victory over the Cardinals. Johnson's first homer and an unearned run on an error by Mike Tyson and single by Joe Ferguson tied the score at 2-2 in the seventh inning. Cabell hit his homer in the eighth to put the Astros ahead. Willie Crawford singled and Johnson followed with his second homer of the game for a pair of insurance runs.

Mets 8, Giants 1 at New York (night game):
Jerry Koosman hit his first homer since his 1968 rookie season while pitching the Mets to an 8-1 victory over the Giants. Ed Kranepool started the Mets' scoring with a two-run smash in the sixth inning. Koosman hit his homer off John Montefusco in the seventh, igniting a six-run outburst. Bud Harrelson drove in three runs with a double.

Dodgers 6, Phillies 4 at Philadelphia (night game):
Ron Cey started the Dodgers' scoring with a two-run homer in the first inning and Steve Garvey capped it with a two-run blow in the seventh to beat the Phillies, 6-4, and give Don Sutton his sixth straight victory. Steve Yeager, who hit three doubles, scored one run and batted in another between Dodger homers. The Phils had a round-tripper by Jay Johnstone.
