Today's scores and summaries:

Red Sox 10, Brewers 9 at Boston (day game):
A take-out slide by Dwight Evans that broke up a possible double play enabled the Red Sox to complete a four-run rally in the ninth inning and defeat the Brewers, 10-9. Trailing, 9-6, the Red Sox began their comeback with a one-out homer by Jim Rice. Carl Yastrzemski singled, reached second on an error and scored on a double by George Scott. After Carlton Fisk walked, Evans singled, driving in Scott, to tie the score. Butch Hobson then grounded into a forceout at second and when Evans' slide prevented Don Money from making a throw to first, Fisk scored the winning run.

Angels 5, Twins 1 at California (night game):
Gary Ross doled out three singles before being lifted in the seventh inning and gained his first victory of the season when the Angels defeated the Twins, 5-1.

Tigers 3, White Sox 2 at Chicago (night game):
Milt May drove in two runs with a single and double in support of batterymate Fernando Arroyo, who allowed only five hits and pitched the Tigers to a 3-2 victory over the White Sox.

Indians 12, Royals 7 at Kansas City (night game):
Breaking loose for five runs in the 12th inning, the Indians defeated the Royals, 12-7. Duane Kuiper walked to open the outburst, stole second, took third on a passed ball and scored the tie-breaking tally on a sacrifice fly by Jim Norris. After a pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases, Frakn Duffy drove in two runs with a single and Buddy Bell knocked in two more with a double. Rick Manning had a homer for the Indians, while Hal McRae hit two for the Royals, batting in their first four runs. The Royals tied the score in the ninth. John Wathan delivered a pinch-single for one run and Dave Nelson hit a pinch-triple to drive in the tying pair.

Orioles 4, Yankees 3 at New York (day game):
Eddie Murray singled home pinch-runner Larry Harlow in the 12th inning to give the Orioles a 4-3 victory over the Yankees. After the Yankees took a 2-0 lead, the Orioles tied the score with a two-run double by Al Bumbry in the seventh. The Orioles forged ahead in the 11th when Billy Smith singled to score Pat Kelly, but the Yankees pulled even in their half on a walk to Fran Healy, sacrifice by Bucky Dent and single by Willie Randolph. With two out in the 12th, Ken Singleton singled and Harlow, running for him, scored the winning run on singles by Lee May and Murray.

Mariners 7, A's 6 at Oakland (day game):
Earl Williams hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning but then committed an error in the ninth that helped the Mariners defeat the Athletics, 7-6. Williams' homer put the A's ahead, 6-5. In the ninth, after Dave Collins singled and Ruppert Jones walked, Williams bobbled a bunt by Steve Braun and all runners were safe. Leroy Stanton tied the score with a single for his fourth hit of the game and Dan Meyer followed with a sacrifice fly to drive in the winning run.

Blue Jays 9, Rangers 6 at Texas (night game):
A three-run homer by Alan Ashby and two RBIs each by Otto Velez and Pedro Garcia paced the Blue Jays to a 9-6 victory over the Rangers. Velez hit a homer and triple. Garcia contributed a double. Jim Sundberg homered with two men on base and Willie Horton with one aboard for the Rangers.

The Mets knocked out Pat Zachry in the fourth inning while scoring four runs, but the Reds came back with a matching quartet in their half on a double by Ken Griffey, single by Morgan, double by Dan Driessen and homer by Johnny Bench. The Reds tacked on three more runs in the sixth on a bases-loaded wild pitch by Bob Apodaca and single by Pete Rose. Driessen doubled Morgan home with what proved to be the deciding run in the seventh.

Phillies 7, Astros 4 at Houston (night game):

Doug Rader homered for the Padres in the 12th, but pinch-hitter Wayne Garrett came through with a circuit clout in the Expos' half to extend the marathon contest.
