Red Sox 1, Royals 0 at Kansas City (night game):

Orioles 5, Brewers 2 at Milwaukee (night game):
The Orioles downed the Brewers, 5-2, behind the five-hit pitching of Rudy May. Mark Belanger walked, stole second and scored the deciding run in the third inning on a single by Billy Smith, who hit a solo homer in the first. Lee May's two-run homer in the fourth was his seventh round-tripper in eight games.
White Sox 9, Twins 5 at Minnesota (night game):
The White Sox rallied for four runs with two out in the 12th inning to beat the Twins, 9-5. Oscar Gamble's three-run homer was the big blow of the outburst. The Twins had tied the score, 5-5, on Lyman Bostock's two-run single in the ninth.
Indians 3, A's 1 at Oakland (night game):
A two-run single by Larvell Blanks in the eighth inning enabled the Indians to defeat the Athletics, 3-1, for their 11th victory in 15 games. Pat Dobson, ending his five-game losing streak, was credited with the victory after help from relievers Sid Monge and Jim Kern.
Yankees 9, Rangers 2 at Texas (night game):
The Yankees, with Catfish Hunter pitching his second complete game in his first start since May 27 and Reggie Jackson hitting two homers, breezed past the Rangers, 9-2. Jackson hit his 10th homer in the second inning and No. 11, a two-run blow, came in the sixth.
Cubs 3, Dodgers 1 at Chicago (day game):
The Cubs scored two runs in the third inning on Larry Biittner's double and Jerry Morales' sacrifice fly and went on to beat the Dodgers, 3-1, as Rick Reuschel and reliever Bruce Sutter doled out four hits. Sutter, who doused a Dodgers' threat in the seventh, was credited with his 16th save.
Expos 4, Braves 2 at Montreal (night game):
The Expos made it four victories in a row by defeating the Braves, 4-2. Jackie Brown pitched a five-hitter for his first complete game of the season. Larry Parrish doubled in the fourth inning and scored the deciding run on Dave Cash's single.
Phillies 9, Astros 5 at Philadelphia (night game):
The Phillies, with Richie Hebner driving in four runs on two homers and a sacrifice fly, downed the Astros, 9-5, in a game shortened to six innings because of rain.
Giants 3, Pirates 1 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Pinch-hitter Darrell Evans and Mike Sadek delivered run-scoring doubles back-to-back in the 12th inning to carry the Giants past the Pirates, 3-1. Gary Lavelle notched his fifth victory with 3 2/3 scoreless innings of relief.
Cardinals 4, Padres 3 at St. Louis (night game):
