Today's scores and summaries:

Red Sox 7, Orioles 3 at Boston (night game):
Two-run homers by Fred Lynn and Carlton Fisk, plus a pair of solo shots by Jim Rice, powered the Red Sox to a 7-3 victory over the Orioles. Rich Dauer hit his first major league homer for the Orioles in the first inning, but Carl Yastrzemski tied the score in the Red Sox half with the 500th double of his career. The Red Sox then uncorked their barrage of homers to pin the defeat on Jim Palmer.

Yankees 10, Brewers 1 at Milwaukee (day game):
Seven different Yankees drove in runs in a 10-1 rout of the Brewers. Fran Healy batted in a pair with a single in the first inning and George Zeber plated the final two runs with a single in the sixth and infield out in the eighth, while five others accounted for one RBI apiece.

Royals 7, Twins 2 at Minnesota (night game):
While Andy Hassler and Steve Mingori combined on a four-hitter, John Wathan and John Mayberry drove in two runs apiece to lead the Royals' attack in a 7-2 victory over the Twins. Wathan accounted for his RBIs with a single in the sixth inning. Mayberry sent the pair home with a double in the ninth.

Mariners 2, Tigers 1 at Seattle (night game):
After hitting a double and scoring in the fourth inning, Leroy Stanton smashed a homer in the eighth to carry the Mariners to a 2-1 victory over the Tigers. An error by Larry Milbourne accounted for the Tigers' tally in the second. Stanton's two-bagger in the fourth led to the tying run on a single by Bill Stein and infield out by Bob Stinson.

White Sox 4, Rangers 3 at Texas (night game):
A single by pinch-hitter Wayne Nordhagen with two out in the 11th inning scored pinch-runner Brian Downing and gave the White Sox a 4-3 victory over the Rangers in a game that lasted four hours, 19 minutes. Alan Bannister had five hits and drove in two runs for the White Sox. In the ninth, Bannister scored from second base on an error by Bump Wills to put the White Sox ahead, 3-2, but the Rangers tied the score in their half when Mike Hargrove tripled and Dave May singled. In the 11th, Jim Essian led off with a single and yielded the paths to Downing. After Downing stopped at second on a single by Ralph Garr, the next two batters went out before Nordhagen delivered the winning hit.

Braves 3, Phillies 0 at Atlanta (night game):
A three-run homer by Rod Gilbreath and four-hit, 13-strikeout pitching by Phil Niekro combined to give the Braves a 3-0 victory over the Phillies. Niekro's strikeouts represented a career high for the veteran knuckleball pitcher, who fanned five in a row at one stretch. Gary Matthews drew a walk from Jim Kaat to open the Braves' fifth inning and both runners were safe when Mike Schmidt threw late to second on a grounder by Vic Correll. After Junior Moore forced Correll, Gilbreath came through with his second homer of the season.

Cubs 1, Giants 0 at Chicago (day game):
Breaking up a scoreless duel, Jose Cardenal squeezed a run home in the 11th inning to bring the Cubs a 1-0 victory over the Giants. George Mitterwaid doubled to open the stanza and Mick Kelleher ran for him. After Greg Gross sacrificed, both Ivan DeJesus and Larry Biittner were passed intentionally to load the bases before Cardenal laid down his winning bunt.

Cardinals 6, Dodgers 3 at St. Louis (night game):
The Cardinals unleashed a barrage of seven extra-base hits and downed the Dodgers, 6-3. The attack included four doubles, two triples and Ken Reitz' eighth homer of the season, representing a career high for the Cardinal third baseman.
