Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 6, White Sox 1 at Baltimore (night game):
The Orioles snapped their three-game losing streak by beating the White Sox, 6-1, behind the five-hit hurling of Mike Flanagan, who ended his personal string of four defeats. Doug DeCinces provided the Orioles' big blow, hitting a bases-loaded double in the fifth inning. Two runs scored on DeCinces' hit and another crossed the plate when Oscar Gamble misplayed the ball in left field.

Angels 1, Indians 0 at California (night game):
With scoring support from Bobby Bonds, who hit a homer, Frank Tanana became the major leagues' first 10-game winner this season, pitching the Angels to a 1-0 victory over the Indians. The shutout was the fifth for Tanana, who allowed only a pair of doubles. Bonds' blow in the second inning came off Wayne Garland, who was the loser on a four-hitter.

Brewers 4, Royals 3 at Milwaukee (night game):
With a count of two strikes, Cecil Cooper slashed an opposite-field double to drive in Jim Wohlford and give the Brewers a 4-3 victory over the Royals. Wolhford opened the seventh inning with a double and Larry Haney sacrificed. After Robin Yount struck out and Don Money was passed intentionally, Cooper hit his tie-breaking double. Jim Slaton was the beneficiary of the blow, gaining the victory to end his personal string of six straight losses to the Royals.

Yankees 4, Twins 1 at New York (night game):
Chris Chambliss stole home to cap the Yankees' scoring in a 4-1 victory over the Twins. Willie Randolph doubled to drive in two runs in the fourth inning. Reggie Jackson doubled and scored on a single by Chambliss in the fifth. After stopping at third on a double by Lou Piniella, Chambliss broke for home and made it easily when reliever Ron Schueler's low throw bounced out of catcher Butch Wynegar's mitt in front of the plate.

Tigers 6, A's 4 at Oakland (night game):
Playing their first game under Bobby Winkles as new manager, succeeding Jack McKeon, the Athletics lost to the Tigers, 6-4. Tito Fuentes, who had three hits, drove in two runs to help the Tigers take a 6-2 lead before Wayne Gross made the game closer by hitting his 13th and 14th homers of the season for the A's.

Blue Jays 4, Mariners 3 at Seattle (night game):
The batting of Ron Fairly, the oldest player on Toronto's roster, sparked the Blue Jays to a 4-3 victory over the Mariners. Fairly and Roy Howell hit homers in the fourth inning for a 2-1 lead. Otto Velez walked in the sixth and scored on a double by Fairly, who then crossed the plate with the deciding run when Doug Rader singled. Ruppert Jones hit a two-run homer for the Mariners in the eighth.

Phillies 7, Braves 5 at Atlanta (night game):
Mike Schmidt smashed two homers and a single, driving in five runs, and Greg Luzinski also hit for the circuit as the Phillies overpowered the Braves, 7-5. Schmidt started his slugging with a homer in the first inning. Luzinski connected in the fourth and Schmidt drove in a run with a single in the fifth. Willie Montanez batted in four runs with a homer and double to pace the Braves to a 5-4 lead going into the seventh. But the Phillies then took command when Jerry Martin and Larry Bowa singled and Schmidt slammed his second homer of the game.

Cubs 3, Giants 1 at Chicago (day game):
Rick Reuschel scattered four hits and retired 15 straight batters at one stretch while pitching the Cubs to a 3-1 victory over the Giants. Reuschel struck out Jack Clark with the bases loaded in the first inning and did not allow another runner until Gary Thomasson singled with two out in the sixth. The Giants' run in the seventh was unearned. Jerry Morales, Bobby Murcer and Larry Biittner drove in the Cubs' runs, two of them carried home by Ivan DeJesus.

Reds 13, Expos 1 at Cincinnati (night game):
Homers by George Foster, Cesar Geronimo and Dan Driessen were among the Reds' 16 hits in a 13-1 walloping of the Expos. Fred Norman, who yielded the mound to Pedro Borbon after six innings, gained his fifth straight victory. Tony Perez, making his first appearance in Cincinnati since being traded to the Expos, was given a standing ovation by the Reds' crowd of 35,148 on his first time at bat in the second inning. The veteran first baseman went hitless in two official trips, with one walk, before leaving the game.

Astros 4, Mets 1 at Houston (night game):
Joaquin Andujar allowed only two singles, both by John Stearns, and won his fifth straight game, pitching the Astros to a 4-1 victory over the Mets. Stearns hit his second single in the fifth inning and scored the Mets' run on an error by Julio Gonzalez and sacrifice fly by Bud Harrelson. The Astros had two tainted tallies, but their other runs off Jon Matlack in the fourth were earned on a walk to Bob Watson, double by Cliff Johnson, single by Art Howe and grounder by Gonzalez.

Pirates 10, Padres 7 at Pittsburgh (night game):
With two out in the 11th inning, Willie Stargell smashed a three-run homer to power the Pirates to a 10-7 victory over the Padres. Stargell's blow off Rollie Fingers followed singles by Dave Parker and Al Oliver. Gene Tenace hit two homers and a single for the Padres, driving in four runs. Bill Robinson, who had three RBIs for the Pirates, doubled in the seventh and scored on a single by Rennie Stennett to tie the score at 7-7.

Cardinals 8, Dodgers 7 at St. Louis (night game):
The Cardinals, after failing to hold a 6-0 lead, escaped defeat in the 10th inning and then edged the Dodgers, 8-7, when pinch-hitter Roger Freed delivered the game-winning single in the 12th. Homers by Steve Yeager and Rick Monday, each with a man on base, helped the Dodgers wipe out the Cards' early lead and tie the score at 6-6. In the 10th, the Dodgers went ahead with a run on an error by Garry Templeton, single by Ron Cey and sacrifice fly by Steve Garvey, but Ted Simmons saved the Cards by knotting the count with a homer. Tony Scott started the 12th with a single and stole second. After an intentional pass to Simmons and another walk to Keith Hernandez, Joel Youngblood bounced into a double play. Bill Russell threw home to force Scott. Simmons, dawdling into third, was doubled on Yeager's peg to Cey. But Freed batted for Clay Carroll and won the game with his single, scoring Hernandez.
