The Rangers ended their three-game losing streak by defeating the Indians, 3-0, as Bert Blyleven pitched a four-hitter and Juan Beniquez and Bert Campaneris belted home runs.

Royals 8, Yankees 3 at New York (night game):
A two-run homer by George Brett in the fifth inning proved to be the decisive blow when the Royals downed the Yankees, 8-3.

Mets 7, Braves 1 at Atlanta (night game):
Jerry Koosman pitched a four-hitter, had 10 strikeouts and delivered a two-run single in the eighth inning as the Mets spanked the Braves, 7-1.

Reds 5, Phillies 4 at Cincinnati (night game):
The Reds shaded the Phillies, 5-4, on Dan Driessen's leadoff home run in the ninth inning and chopped the Dodgers' lead in the National League West to seven games.

Expos 3, Astros 2 at Houston (night game):
The Expos scored three times in fifth, with singles by Tony Perez and Andre Dawson and a sacrifice fly by Gary Carter producing runs, to edge the Astros, 3-2. Reliever Joe Kerrigan pitched out of a bases-loaded situation in the eighth to enable Santo Alcala to notch his first victory since being acquired from the Reds May 21.
