Today's scores and summaries:

Red Sox 4, Orioles 0 at Baltimore (night game):
The Red Sox boosted their lead to 3½ games in the American League East with a 4-0 victory over the Orioles behind the two-hit pitching of Rick Wise. Butch Hobson hit a home run in the eighth inning, enabling the Bosox to tie the major league record for most homers in six consecutive games, 22, set by the 1954 Giants.

A's 7, White Sox 1 at Chicago (night game):
The Athletics, with Rodney Scott and Earl Williams each driving in two runs, waged a 16-hit attack and beat the White Sox, 7-1, to end their five-game losing streak.

Tigers 2, Yankees 1 at Detroit (night game):
Mark Fidrych pitched the Tigers to a 2-1 victory over the Yankees, yielding but three hits in his fourth straight triumph, before 47,236. The winning run scored in the seventh inning after Reggie Jackson lost Mickey Stanley's routine fly in the lights and it went for a double. Aurelio Rodriguez followed with a run-scoring single.

Mariners 4, Royals 2 at Kansas City (night game):
A two-run single by Leroy Stanton in the eighth inning enabled the Mariners to beat the Royals, 4-2. Stanton's key blow came after Jose Baez singled, Dan Meyer walked and the runners advanced on a groundout.

Rangers 2, Twins 1 at Minnesota (night game):
The Rangers, although outhit, 12-5, emerged with a 2-1 triumph over the Twins when Toby Harrah hit his ninth home run in the seventh inning. Dock Ellis went 6 1/3 innings in his first start for the Rangers.

Indians 8, Blue Jays 5 at Toronto (night game):

Dodgers 9, Cardinals 3 at Los Angeles (night game):
Four home runs -- two by Rick Monday and one each by Steve Garvey and Dusty Baker -- accounted for six runs when the Dodgers dealt the reeling Cardinals their fifth loss in succession, 9-3. The Phillies scored in each of the first six innings en route to a 10-4 triumph over the Reds that ended a string of nine straight losses to the Rhinelanders over two seasons.
