Today's scores and summaries:

Indians 4, Orioles 2 at Cleveland (night game):
Frank Duffy, who started the night batting .199, belted two homers and Wayne Garland allowed only five hits while pitching the Indians to a 4-2 victory over the Orioles in a game stopped by rain after 6½ innings. Duffy rapped his first round-tripper in the third inning. After the Orioles went ahead, 2-1, the Indians erupted for two runs in the fourth on singles by Paul Dade, Buddy Bell and Ron Pruitt and a double by Fred Kendall. Duffy concluded the scoring with his second homer of the game in the fifth.

Yankees 11, Blue Jays 5 at Toronto (night game):
Cliff Johnson smashed three homers, including two during an eight-run explosion in the eighth inning, as the Yankees defeated the Blue Jays, 11-5. Johnson hit his first homer in the fourth and Doug Rader rapped one for the Blue Jays in the fifth. The Yankees, holding a lead of only 2-1, then broke the game apart in the eighth with an outburst that included four homers. Johnson and Lou Piniella each hit for the circuit to ignite the fireworks. Graig Nettles, Bucky Dent and Mickey Rivers singled, Nettles scoring. Thurman Munson followed with a three-run homer. Chris Chambliss then doubled and Johnson climaxed the stanza with his second homer of the inning and third of the game.

Braves 5, Dodgers 4 at Atlanta (night game):
Coming from behind in the ninth inning, the Braves scored twice to defeat the Dodgers, 5-4. The Dodgers took a 4-3 lead in the top half of the frame when Davey Lopes homered with a man on base. Gary Matthews promptly tied the score with a four-bagger to ignite the Braves' rally. Jerry Burroughs then walked, stopped at third on a double by Biff Pocoroba and scored the winning run on a single by Darrel Chaney.

Reds 11, Giants 5 at Cincinnati (day game):
Although hitless in two official trips, Joe Morgan reached base on three walks, a forceout and an error and scored five of the Reds' runs in an 11-5 victory over the Giants. Dan Driessen had three singles and a walk and batted in four runs. Although Woodie Fryman yielded only two hits, wildness forced the lefthander's exit after six innings. Joe Henderson was tagged for a three-run homer by Gary Thomasson in the eighth before Dale Murray took over and retired the last four batters, striking out two.

Mets 4, Expos 3 at Montreal (night game):
Lee Mazzilli scored from third base on a slow roller by pinch-hitter Mike Vail in the ninth inning to bring the Mets a 4-3 victory over the Expos. John Stearns, hitting safely in his 12th straight game, smashed a homer in the fifth, his ninth of the season, setting a Mets' record for most homers by a catcher. Duffy Dyer hit eight in 1972. In the ninth, Mazzilli doubled and advanced on a scarifice by Joel Youngblood. Vail then tapped to Wayne Garrett and the third baseman, with no chance for a play at the plate, had to settle for throwing out the batter at first base.

Phillies 8, Pirates 1 at Philadelphia (night game):
Mike Schmidt tied the N. L. record for most homers in June, hitting his 14th of the month, as the Phillies defeated the Pirates, 8-1. The record was set by Ralph Kiner with the Pirates in June, 1947. The Phillies sent Steve Carlton on his way to victory with four runs in the first inning on a triple by Bake McBride, singles by Larry Bowa and Schmidt, a sacrifice fly by Greg Luzinski and homer by Garry Maddox. Schmidt's blow came in the fourth with a man on base. Phil Garner homered for the Pirates' run.

Cardinals 2, Cubs 1 at St. Louis (night game):
Making an all-out effort, Ken Reitz beat the throw to first base to prevent a double play in the ninth inning as Tony Scott scored to give the Cardinals a 2-1 victory over the Cubs. Steve Ontiveros homered for the Cubs' run in the fifth. The Cards tied it in the eighth when Dave Rader singled and Lou Brock tripled. In the ninth, Scott singled with one out and went to third on a single by Ted Simmons. After an intentional pass to Keith Hernandez, Reitz grounded to Manny Trillo, who tagged second to force Hernandez, but his throw to first was too late to double up Reitz.
