Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 2, Tigers 0 at Baltimore (night game):
Mike Flanagan pitched a six-hitter as the Orioles extended their winning streak to seven games with a 2-0 victory over the Tigers. Ken Singleton homered for the first run in the fourth inning and the other marker followed on a triple by Rick Dempsey and sacrifice fly by Al Bumbry in the eighth.

Red Sox 9, Blue Jays 5 at Boston (night game):
Carl Yastrzemski and Fred Lynn each collected four of the 17 hits by the Red Sox in a 9-5 victory over the Blue Jays. Yastrzemski drove in two runs and scored three, while Lynn crossed the plate twice and had one RBI. Otto Velez hit a single and homer to account for three runs as the Blue Jays matched the Red Sox in a 5-5 tie before Yastrzemski singled in the seventh inning, moved up on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Carlton Fisk to put the Red Sox ahead to stay.

Royals 8, Brewers 7 at Kansas City (night game):
George Brett, who had been sidelined with an infected elbow, came off the Royals' bench as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning and delivered a run-scoring single to beat the Brewers, 8-7. The Brewers had a two-run single by Sixto Lezcano and two-run homer by Steve Brye while taking a 7-2 lead before the Royals rallied for three runs in the sixth. Pete LaCock produced one run with a sacrifice fly and Al Cowens homered with a man on base. Amos Otis tied the score with a pinch-homer in the seventh. Frank White singled in the ninth and Hal McRae walked before Brett ended the game with his winning hit.

Twins 4, Angels 3 at Minnesota (night game):
Tom Johnson gained his 10th victory as a reliever for the Twins when Lyman Bostock homered in the eighth inning to beat the Angels, 4-3. The Twins also had a homer by Butch Wynegar and another run on a triple by Roy Smalley and sacrifice fly by Rich Chiles in the seventh to take a 3-2 lead, but after the Angels tied the score in the top half of the eighth, Bostock promptly broke the deadlock with his boundary belt.

White Sox 4, Mariners 2 at Seattle (night game):
Oscar Gamble smashed two homers and Wilbur Wood pitched a seven-hitter for the White Sox, who extended their winning streak to seven games with a 4-2 victory over the Mariners. After Gamble's first homer in the second inning, the White Sox added two runs on a bases-loaded single by Alan Bannister. Gamble hit his other circuit clout in the sixth to raise the White Sox club total to 101 for the season.

Rangers 4, A's 3 at Texas (night game):
Juan Beniquez stole home in the sixth inning and followed with a homer in the seventh to enable the Rangers to beat the Athletics, 4-3. The speedy outfielder's theft gave the Rangers a 3-2 lead, but Tony Armas homered for the A's to tie the score in the top half of the seventh before Beniquez returned to the plate and won the game with his round-tripper.

Reds 15, Braves 13 at Atlanta (night game):
Capping their attack with a grand slam by Dave Concepcion, the Reds hit four homers for the second game in succession and beat the Braves in a slugfest, 15-13. Johnny Bench and Ken Griffey hit for the circuit in the second when the Reds scored five times. Pete Rose, who had four hits and drove in four runs, made it 6-0 with a homer in the fourth. The Braves bounced back with a six-run rally in their half of the fourth, scoring the tying pair on a round-tripper by pinch-hitter Cito Gaston. The Reds came back with three runs in the fifth. Gary Matthews homered in the Braves' half. An error by Dan Driessen enabled the Braves to knot the count in the seventh, but the Reds then exploded for six runs in the eighth. After George Foster broke the tie with a two-run single, Bench drew an intentional pass to load the bases and Concepcion followed with his grand slam.

Cubs 8, Expos 6 at Chicago (day game):
Don Stanhouse hit his first major league homer, connecting with the bases loaded for the first grand slam by a pitcher in Expos' history, but the righthander then lost to the Cubs, 8-6, when Greg Gross also hit his first major league homer with two men aboard. In the Expos' second inning, Tony Perez doubled and scored on a single by Warren Cromartie. After a single by Andre Dawson, pass to Wayne Garrett and Tim Blackwell's forceout of Cromartie at the plate, Stanhouse ripped into a pitch by Bill Bonham for his jackpot wallop. Larry Biittner homered for the Cubs with a man on base in the third. With the Expos ahead, 5-4, the Cubs put two men on base on an error and walk in the sixth before Gross turned things around with his homer. The Cubs added an insurance run in the seventh with singles by Jerry Morales and Steve Ontiveros and a sacrifice fly by Manny Trillo.

Astros 2, Dodgers 1 at Los Angeles (night game):
With all three runs in the game scoring on homers, Jose Cruz hit for the circuit in the 14th inning to lift the Astros to a 2-1 victory over the Dodgers. Rick Rhoden hit his first homer of the year and second of his major league career to account for the Dodgers' run in the third inning. Joe Ferguson tied the score with a smash in the fourth.

Phillies 5, Mets 3 at Philadelphia (night game):
The Phillies won their seventh straight game with a three-run rally in the sixth inning that beat the Mets, 5-3. Mike Vail hit a two-run homer in the fourth to stake the Mets to a 3-1 lead before Mike Schmidt opened the Phillies' comeback by drawing his third walk of the game. Greg Luzinski singled and Davey Johnson sacrificed. After an intentional pass to Bob Boone, Jerry Martin hit a two-run single to tie the score and Tim McCarver followed with a sacrifice fly to put the Phillies ahead. Johnson added an insurance marker with a homer in the eighth.

Pirates 11, Cardinals 8 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Instead of being staggered when the Cardinals exploded for seven runs in the seventh inning, the Pirates rebounded with a three-run homer by pinch-hitter Fernando Gonzalez and posted an 11-8 victory. The Pirates built up a 6-1 lead with the aid of a circuit clout by Dave Parker before the Cardinals erupted in the seventh. Lou Brock batted in two runs with a single and Ted Simmons capped the rally with a two-run homer. However, in the Pirates' half, Jim Fregosi walked with two out and Ed Ott singled before Gonzalez delivered his pinch-homer to put the Pirates ahead, 9-7. The Pirates then iced the decision with two more runs in the eighth on a homer by Phil Garner, single by Omar Moreno and double by Al Oliver.

Padres 7, Giants 5 at San Francisco (night game):
Taking advantage of three errors, the Padres scored three unearned runs in the 12th inning and dealt the Giants their eighth straight defeat, 7-5. Pinch-hitter Jerry Turner hit a three-run double in the sixth inning to give the Padres a 4-1 lead, but Marc Hill sent the game into overtime with a homer in the ninth. Tucker Ashford opened the Padres' 12th with a single and two runs followed on errors by Dave Heaverlo, Vic Harris and Darrell Evans before the Padres tacked on their final marker with a double by Gene Tenace and single by Dave Kingman. The Giants fell short with one run in their half.
