Today's scores and summaries:

Yankees 9, Angels 3 at California (night game):
Every Yankee starting batter joined in the 19-hit attack that produced a 9-3 victory over the Angels. Bucky Dent, Mickey Rivers and Reggie Jackson collected three hits apiece. Thurman Munson batted in three runs with an infield out, single and double. Jackson drove in two runs and Chris Chambliss accounted for two with a homer. Bobby Bonds and Don Baylor homered for the Angels, who were held to seven hits by Mike Torrez.

Rangers 9, White Sox 8 at Chicago (night game):
The Rangers, who trailed after six innings, 7-0, made a tremendous comeback and defeated the White Sox, 9-8. Richie Zisk homered with a man on base and Jim Spencer also batted in two runs to help the White Sox take their big lead. The Rangers picked up two unearned runs in the seventh and then exploded for six runs in the eighth. Bert Campaneris and Keith Smith walked and both scored on singles by Toby Harrah and Tom Grieve. Jim Sundberg was safe on an error by Jack Brohamer, Harrah scoring, before Dave May hit a three-run homer to put the Rangers ahead. The White Sox tied the score in their half with a triple by Jim Essian and single by Alan Bannister, but the Rangers put over the winning run in the ninth when Campaneris singled, Smith sacrificed and Willie Horton doubled to cap their comeback.

[DH] Indians 9, Brewers 2 (night game) / Indians 7, Brewers 4 at Milwaukee (night game):
The Indians piled up 28 hits, including six by Buddy Bell in nine trips, while sweeping a twi-night doubleheader with the Brewers, 9-2 and 7-4. Bell rapped four hits in the opener, driving in two runs and scoring one. The Indians' 13-hit attack included a homer by Andre Thornton. Sal Bando hit one for the Brewers. In the nightcap, Bill Melton hit two doubles and a single for the Indians among their 15 hits. Five other Indians, including Bell, had two hits apiece. Melton batted in three runs and scored three.

Twins 9, Royals 4 at Minnesota (night game):
Butch Wynegar hit a three-run homer and Dan Ford drove in two runs with a single and homer to lead the Twins to a 9-4 victory over the Royals. Ford produced the Twins' initial run with a single in the first inning, scoring Rod Carew, who had doubled. Al Cowens hit three singles for the Royals, batting in as many runs, before the Twins wiped out their 3-1 deficit with four runs in the fourth. Ford started the outburst with his homer. Wynegar iced the verdict with his three-run drive in the fifth.

Red Sox 3, Mariners 2 at Seattle (night game):
Denny Doyle singled in the 10th inning, took third on a single by Rick Burleson and scored on a sacrifice fly by Fred Lynn to bring the Red Sox a 3-2 victory over the Mariners. The Red Sox scored their first two runs in the fourth when Jim Rice singled and George Scott homered. The Mariners came back with a single by Steve Braun and homer by Bob Stinson to tie the score in the sixth.

Cardinals 6, Braves 4 at Atlanta (night game):
The Cardinals took advantage of an error by Darrel Chaney in the ninth inning and scored three unearned runs to defeat the Braves, 6-4. After the Cards took a 3-0 lead, Jeff Burroughs homered for the Braves in the fourth and Rowland Office hit for the circuit after a double by Rod Gilbreath in the fifth to tie the score. In the ninth, Ted Simmons led off by drawing a walk. Keith Hernandez bunted and when Chaney dropped the throw to second, both runners were safe. After a sacrifice by Ken Reitz, Tony Scott was passed intentionally to load the bases. Mike Tyson hit a sacrifice fly, driving in Simmons, and Dave Rader followed with a single, scoring Hernandez and Scott. The Braves' rally in their half of the ninth fell short with one run scoring.

Cubs 5, Reds 2 at Cincinnati (night game):
After being shut out by Mario Soto for 7 2/3 innings, the Cubs took advantage of the rookie's sudden loss of control and scored five runs to defeat the Reds, 5-2. Soto held a 1-0 lead and had not issued a pass before walking Bill Buckner. Jerry Morales followed with a single. Soto then passed Bobby Murcer, Steve Ontiveros and Jose Cardenal in succession, forcing in two runs to put the Cubs ahead, 2-1. Dale Murray relieved and the Cubs then swung the bats, getting one run on a single by Manny Trillo and two on a single by George Mitterwald. George Foster hit his 35th homer of the season for the Reds in the ninth.

Pirates 6, Astros 3 at Houston (night game):
The Pirates, after rallying for two runs in the ninth inning to tie the score at 3-3, beat the Astros in the 10th, 6-3, when Bill Robinson hit a homer with two men on base. Frank Taveras singled with one out and Dave Parker was passed intentionally with two away before Robinson rapped his round-tripper.

Expos 10, Giants 2 at Montreal (night game):
The Expos erupted for eight runs in the seventh inning and defeated the Giants, 10-2, behind the four-hit pitching of Steve Rogers. In the Expos' big inning, Ellis Valentine batted in two runs with a single, Andre Dawson drove in two with a triple and Larr yParrish capped the outburst by hitting a homer with a man on base. The only runs off Rogers came on a pinch-homer by Randy Elliott in the eighth.

Dodgers 7, Mets 2 at New York (night game):
Tommy John scattered eight hits and pitched the Dodgers to a 7-2 victory over the Mets. Steve Garvey homered for the Dodgers' initial run in the fourth inning. Lenny Randle put the Mets ahead with a two-run single in the fifth, but John batted himself into a tie with an RBI single in the sixth. The Dodgers then took command with three runs in the seventh. After a single by Reggie Smith, double by Ron Cey and intentional pass to Garvey loaded the bases, Jerry Koosman walked Dusty Baker to force in the tie-breaking tally. One out later, Steve Yeager singled to drive in two runs. Cey added a homer with a man on base in the ninth.

Padres 4, Phillies 2 at Philadelphia (night game):
A homer by Dave Kingman after a triple by Bill Almon in the third inning started the Padres off to a 4-2 victory over the Phillies. A double by Mike Ivie, safe bunt by Tucker Ashford and infield out by Mike Champion added a run in the fourth. The Padres' final tally counted in the seventh on a pass to Bob Owchinko, sacrifice by Almon and double by Gene Tenace. Owchinko was the winner with help from Rollie Fingers, who relieved in the eighth and picked up his 23rd save.
