Orioles 6, Indians 3 at Baltimore (night game):
Although outhit, 11-5, the Orioles turned a three-run second inning into a 6-3 victory over the Indians that ended their three-game losing streak. A walk, hit batsman and two wild pitches by Jim Bibby opened the door to the Orioles' big inning. Larvell Blanks had five hits, including three doubles, for the Tribe.

White Sox 5, Mariners 4 at Chicago (night game):
Lamar Johnson hit his second home run of the game with one out in the ninth to enable the White Sox to beat the Mariners, 5-4, and increase their American League West lead to a full game over the idle Twins. Rookie Randy Wiles, pitching two-thirds of an inning in relief of Francisco Barrios, was credited with his first major league victory.

Tigers 6, Brewers 1 at Detroit (night game):
Jason Thompson delivered a run-scoring double in a five-run second inning and hit his 19th home run of the season in the sixth to power the Tigers to a 6-1 triumph over the Brewers.

[DH] Angels 6, Royals 4 (day game) / Angels 7, Royals 2 at Kansas City (night game):
The Angels swept a doubleheader from the Royals, winning the first game, 6-4, and taking the nightcap, 7-2, to drop Kaycee to fourth place in the American League West. A four-run second inning helped Nolan Ryan, with help from reliever Dave LaRoche, become the first 16-game winner in the A. L. while ending Kaycee's 13-game home winning streak. Bobby Bonds hit his 27th homer, his sixth in seven games, to wrap up the Angels' second-game victory.

[DH] Rangers 5, A's 2 (night game) / Rangers 3, A's 0 at Texas (night game):
The Rangers treated the fans to fisticuffs and the first triple play in club history while winning a twi-night doubleheader from the Athletics, 5-2 and 3-0. A three-run first inning propelled the Rangers to victory in the opener, with Bump Wills' two-run single the key blow. A free-for-all developed in the fifth inning when Toby Harrah, hit by a Jim Umbarger pitch for the second time, landed a right cross on the pitcher's temple. Roger Moret, who had a no-hitter going for 6 2/3 innings, combined with Adrian Devine on a two-hitter in the afterpiece. Harrah, ejected for his role in the first-game brawl, fielded Manny Sanguillen's grounder and started a 5-4-3 triple play in the fifth inning.

Dodgers 4, Reds 0 at Los Angeles (night game):
Tommy John pitched a two-hitter and pounded his first home run since 1968 in leading the Dodgers to a 4-0 victory over the Reds that ended a four-game losing streak for Los Angeles.

Expos 6, Padres 5 at Montreal (night game):
Chris Speier walked in the eighth inning, advanced on Bob Shirley's balk and scored the winning run on Warren Cromartie's single as the Expos edged the Padres, 6-5. Ellis Valentine hit a two-run homer, his 20th of the season, in the fifth.

Cardinals 4, Mets 2 at New York (night game):
A three-run homer by Ken Reitz in the ninth inning enabled the Cardinals to down the Mets, 4-2. Eric Rasmussen limited the Mets to three hits over the first seven innings, but the victory went to reliever Al Hrabosky.

Pirates 7, Cubs 6 at Pittsburgh (night game):
The Pirates rallied for two runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Cubs, 7-6, with Ed Ott's triple sending home the winning run. Ivan DeJesus hit a three-run homer in the seventh to give the Cubs a 6-4 lead. Bobby Murcer hit his 19th and 20th homers of the season for the Cubs.
