Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 4, Mariners 3 at Baltimore (night game):
Helped by an error, the Orioles rallied for three runs in the ninth and defeated the Mariners, 4-3. Leroy Stanton hit a two-run homer in the eighth to put the Mariners ahead, 3-1. In the Orioles' ninth, Pat Kelly walked with one out, leading to the exit of Glenn Abbott. Enrique Romo relieved. Billy Smith grounded to Dan Meyer, who threw wildly in an attempt to start a double play. Kelly wound up at third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Tony Muser. Ken Singleton doubled, Smith stopping at third. Lee May then singled, driving in the tying and winning runs.

Angels 7, Red Sox 3 at Boston (night game):
Bobby Bonds drove in four runs with a sacrifice fly, homer and infield out to lead the Angels to a 7-3 victory over the Red Sox, who were stopped on their 11-game winning streak. Don Baylor also homered for the first of the Angels' three runs in the second inning. Bonds hit his sacrifice fly in the third, homered after a walk to Jerry Remy in the fifth and batted in Remy again with a grounder in the seventh.

Indians 3, White Sox 1 at Chicago (night game):
A two-run homer by Buddy Bell enabled the Indians to defeat the White Sox, 3-1. After the Indians scored an unearned run in the second inning, Frank Duffy doubled and Bell hit his homer in the third. The White Sox averted what would have been their first shutout of the season by scoring an unearned run in the ninth. Richie Zisk singled, reached second on a throwing error by Bruce Bochte and crossed the plate on a two-out single by Chet Lemon.

Yankees 3, A's 0 at New York (night game):
The Athletics were held to two hits by Mike Torrez and lost to the Yankees, 3-0, for their 13th straight defeat in the club's longest losing streak since moving to Oakland in 1968. The A's actually beat themselves. All three Yankee runs off Pablo Torrealba were unearned on errors by Marty Perez and Manny Sanguillen.

Rangers 8, Royals 3 at Texas (night game):
Mike Hargrove, Claudell Washington and Jim Sundberg batted in two runs apiece to pace the Rangers to an 8-3 victory over the Royals. Hargrove's RBIs came on a homer after a double by Sundberg in the third inning. Similarly, Washington homered following a two-bagger by Bert Campaneris in the fifth. Sundberg hit his second double of the game for his RBIs in the eighth.

Twins 7, Blue Jays 3 at Toronto (night game):
Homers by Lyman Bostock and Glenn Adams accounted for five runs and powered the Twins to a 7-3 victory over the Blue Jays. Bostock connected with a man on base in the third inning and Adams with two aboard in the ninth. Adams also had an earlier RBI, driving in a run with an infield out in the fifth inning.

Reds 5, Dodgers 4 at Los Angeles (night game):
After Dan Driessen homered with two men on base in the first inning, the Reds added single runs in the fourth and fifth to edge the Dodgers, 5-4, behind the pitching of Tom Seaver. Driessen's homer came with two out after a pass to Joe Morgan and single by George Foster. Davey Lopes led off with a homer in the Dodgers' half. The Reds scored in the fourth on a single by Driessen and double by Johnny Bench. Pete Rose doubled in the fifth and scored what proved to be the winning run on a single by Morgan. Reggie Smith homered for the Dodgers in the seventh and Seaver gave up two more runs in the eighth on a single by Lee Lacy, double by Lopes and single by Bill Russell before bearing down to complete his victory. The crowd of 53,022 at the game boosted the Dodgers' attendance to 2,005,986 on their 50th home game, marking the earliest time that any club had surpassed the two million mark.

Phillies 10, Expos 5 at Philadelphia (day game):
Bake McBride rapped a homer and two other hits, plus a sacrifice fly, and Jim Kaat helped himself with three hits before needing relief from Gene Garber as the Phillies defeated the Expos, 10-5. The Expos scored two runs off Kaat in the first inning, but the Phillies picked up a matching pair in their half and then erupted for four runs in the second. Kaat batted in one run with a double, McBride followed with his homer and before the inning ended Jay Johnstone added a tally with a sacrifice fly. The Expos chased Kaat in the sixth while scoring two runs, but Garber brought the rally to an end by inducing Warren Cromartie to ground into a double play.

Pirates 9, Mets 1 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Backed by a 15-hit attack, including a homer and double by Bill Robinson, who drove in four runs, Odell Jones turned in his first major league complete game and pitched the Pirates to a 9-1 victory over the Mets. Jones yielded only five hits, with the Mets' run coming on a pinch-homer by Ron Hodges. Rennie Stennett went 4-for-4 in the Pirates' attack. Robinson homered following a walk to Dave Parker in the first inning and doubled after a pass to Phil Garner and single by Parker in the sixth. Parker had two hits and batted safely in his 22nd straight game.

Padres 2, Braves 1 at San Diego (night game):
Preston Hanna had a 1-0 victory in his grasp, but the Braves' rookie righthander faltered in the ninth inning and lost to the Padres, 2-1. The Braves' run came on a homer by Jeff Burroughs in the seventh. Jerry Turner opened the Padres' rally in the ninth with a homer to tie the score and Dave Winfield followed with a double. Hanna fumbled a bunt by George Hendrick, putting runners on first and third. After issuing an intentional pass to Gene Tenace, Hanna retired the next two batters but then walked pinch-hitter Pat Scanlon on a 3-and-2 count to force in the Padres' winning run.

Astros 7, Giants 5 at San Francisco (day game):
The first three batters in the Astros' order, Terry Puhl, Enos Cabell and Cesar Cedeno, collected eight hits among them in a 7-5 victory over the Giants. Puhl singled twice and scored two runs. Cabell had three singles, scoring three runs and driving in one. But Cedeno provided the biggest punch with three doubles. Cedeno knocked in two runs with a double in the fifth inning to tie the score at 4-4. After the Giants regained the lead, Cedeno knotted the count again with another double in the seventh and scored on a single by Jose Cruz to put the Astros ahead to stay. Gary Alexander batted in three runs for the Giants with a homer and sacrifice fly.
