Today's scores and summaries:

A's 9, Orioles 6 at Baltimore (night game):
The Athletics ended their 14-game losing streak, longest in the history of the Oakland franchise, by defeating the Orioles, 9-6. Jerry Tabb collected three hits and drove in four runs for the A's, while Manny Sanguillen and Tim Hosley each accounted for two RBIs. In the first inning, when the A's scored three runs, Mitchell Page successfully stole his 26th consecutive base of the season. Doug DeCinces and Lee May socked solo homers for the Orioles.

Red Sox 13, Mariners 6 at Boston (day game):
George Scott, Butch Hobson and Dwight Evans smashed consecutive homers in the sixth inning when the Red Sox sent 10 men to the plate and scored seven runs en route to a 13-6 victory over the Mariners. The Red Sox had an earlier round-tripper by Carl Yastrzemski in the second inning, but the Mariners took a 4-2 lead in the fifth when Dan Meyer and Skip Jutze hit for the circuit off Fergie Jenkins, Jutze's blow coming with two aboard. In the sixth, Yastrzemski doubled but two were out before the Red Sox began their cannonading with drives by Scott and Hobson to kayo Bob Galasso. Evans greeted reliever Enrique Romo with the Red Sox' third homer in a row. Following a walk and single by Rick Burleson, Fred Lynn tripled to add two runs and scored himself on a bad throw from the outfield by Steve Braun. Four more runs in the seventh turned the game into a rout. The Mariners had a homer by Braun off Bill Campbell as a closing gesture in the ninth.

Brewers 6, Indians 1 at Cleveland (day game):
Don Money smacked a pair of solo homers and Cecil Cooper added a two-run shot as the Brewers defeated the Indians, 6-1. Money also reached base two other times on an error and double and scored four runs.

Tigers 2, Twins 1 at Detroit (night game):
Milt Wilcox allowed only three hits in the first eight innings and Steve Foucault pitched hitless relief in the final frame as the Tigers defeated the Twins, 2-1. The victory was Wilcox' fourth in a row since coming up from Evansville (American Association) June 22. A single by Steve Kemp and double by John Wockenfuss produced the Tigers' first run in the second inning. The Twins tied the score with singles by Roy Smalley and Rod Carew and a sacrifice fly by Lyman Bostock in the fourth. The Tigers then won with an unearned run in the fifth when Tom Veryzer reached third on two errors by Mike Cubbage and scored on a sacrifice fly by Tito Fuentes.

Angels 6, Yankees 5 at New York (day game):
A two-out single by Mario Guerrero in the 12th inning drove in the Angels' winning run and enabled Nolan Ryan to defeat the Yankees, 6-5, for his 17th victory. The Yankees grabbed a 3-0 lead on a homer by Chris Chambliss in the first inning, but the Angels chased Ken Holtzman while scoring four runs in the third. After Yankees went ahead again with a pair in their half of the third, the Angels tied the score in the fourth on a single by Rance Mulliniks and double by Gil Flores. Dave Chalk drew a walk from Sparky Lyle in the 12th, Thad Bosley sacrificed and Mulliniks flied out before Guerrero lashed his single to drive in the deciding run.

White Sox 6, Rangers 5 at Texas (night game):
Richie Zisk socked two solo homers and Eric Soderholm drove in three runs with a double to lift the White Sox back into first place in the West Division with a 6-5 victory over the Rangers. The Twins, who lost to the Tigers, 2-1, slipped one-half game behind the Pale Hose. Mike Hargrove homered for the Rangers in the first inning. The first of Zisk's two blasts tied the score in the second before the White Sox erupted for four runs in the fifth. After a walk to Oscar Gamble and singles by Lamar Johnson and Chet Lemon loaded the bases, Soderholm smashed his double. Alan Bannister drove in Soderholm with the fourth run of the frame. Jim Sundberg a hit two-run homer for the Rangers in their half of the fifth, but Zisk's second circuit clout of the game provided the White Sox with their winning run in the eighth.

Royals 5, Blue Jays 3 at Toronto (night game):
Tom Poquette hit his second homer of the season at an opportune time for the Royals, connecting after a double by John Mayberry in the eighth inning, to beat the Blue Jays, 5-3. The Royals also had an inside-the-park homer by George Brett in the third and a round-tripper by Darrell Porter in the sixth. Otto Velez batted in two runs with a bases-loaded single for the Blue Jays.

Phillies 10, Cubs 7 at Chicago (day game):
After coming from behind with a pair of two-run homers, the Phillies posted their 10th straight victory when Bake McBride connected for the circuit with two men on base in the 11th to beat the Cubs, 10-7. The Cubs had round-trippers by Manny Trillo and Bobby Murcer in taking a 6-2 lead before McBride drove in a run with a single in the seventh inning. Jay Johnstone homered with a man on base for the Phils in the eighth. After the Cubs added a run in their half, pinch-hitter Davey Johnson belted a two-run homer for the Phils to tie the score in the ninth. Dave Giusti, pitching in relief for the Cubs, helped dig his own grave in the 11th by issuing two passes before McBride smashed his decisive homer.

Dodgers 11, Braves 0 at Los Angeles (night game):
Winning his eighth game in a row, Tommy John yielded only four hits and pitched the Dodgers to an 11-0 victory over the Braves. The Dodgers' attack included a three-run homer by Ron Cey in the first inning and three-run smash by Steve Yeager in the fifth.

Pirates 2, Mets 0 at Pittsburgh (night game):
A double by Duffy Dyer and triple by Dave Parker each drove in a run for the Pirates and enabled Jerry Reuss to defeat the Mets, 2-0. Fernando Gonzalez singled and scored on a double by Dyer in the seventh inning. Parker's triple in the eighth came after a single by Omar Moreno.

Reds 3, Giants 1 at San Francisco (day game):
When right fielder Jack Clark lost a routine short fly by Johnny Bench with two out in the ninth inning, the ball fell for a bases-loaded triple and gave the Reds a 3-1 victory over the Giants. Doubles by Tim Foli and Jim Barr produced the Giants' run in the second. Barr, who was working on a three-hit shutout, got two out in the ninth before Ken Griffey beat out a bunt and Joe Morgan singled. Gary Lavelle took over in relief, walked Bob Bailey and then appeared to have saved game on Bench's fly until the sun came to the Reds' rescue.

Cardinals 1, Expos 0 at St. Louis (night game):
The Cardinals broke up a scoreless duel in the 10th inning when Mike Anderson singled with the bases loaded to beat the Expos, 1-0. With one away in the overtime frame, Roger Freed batted for winning pitcher Butch Metzger and singled. Rick Bosetti ran for Freed and scooted to third on a single by Lou Brock. The Expos elected to pass Garry Templeton to load the bases, but the move failed when Anderson stroked his single.
