Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 10, White Sox 5 at Baltimore (night game):
The Orioles pounded out their season high of 19 hits and ended a three-game losing streak with a 10-5 victory over the White Sox. Every Oriole starter hit safely and scored at least one run. Al Bumbry and Rich Dauer led the parade with four singles apiece. Doug DeCinces rapped a double and two singles, driving in three runs. Lee May hit a triple and two singles, good for a pair of RBIs, while Dave Skaggs also accounted for two runs with a double.

[DH] Rangers 3, Red Sox 0 (night game) / Rangers 6, Red Sox 3 at Boston (night game):
The Rangers, who got three-hit pitching from Gaylord Perry and Adrian Devine in the opener and hitless relief from Len Barker in the nightcap, swept a twi-night doubleheader, 3-0 and 6-3, to extend the Red Sox' losing streak to seven games. Perry allowed only one hit, a double by Butch Hobson, in the first five innings of the lidlifter, while Devine gave up a pair of singles by Fred Lynn in the last four frames. After having four runners thrown out at the plate, the Rangers scored twice off Mike Paxton in the fifth inning on doubles by Bump Wills and Jim Sundberg and a single by Kurt Bevacqua. A pass to Mike Hargrove, an infield out and single by John Ellis added a counter in the seventh. In the nightcap, Barker, who pitched 3 1/3 innings and struck out seven, gained the victory when Jim Mason homered in the seventh to break a 3-3 tie. Juan Beniquez doubled and Tom Grieve singled for another run in the eighth before Claudell Washington wrapped up the scoring with a homer in the ninth.

[DH] Indians 5, Angels 3 (night game) / Angels 5, Indians 2 at California (night game):
With the aid of two unearned runs, the Indians beat Nolan Ryan in the first game of a twi-night doubleheader, 5-3, but the Angels came back to win the second game, 5-2. Ryan struck out 10, marking the 102nd time that the Angels' ace had fanned 10 or more batters in one game. However victory escaped Ryan on an error by Jerry Remy in the fifth inning after the Angels had given him a 3-2 lead. Paul Dade and Duane Kuiper led off the stanza with singles. After Buddy Bell forced Kuiper, Dade scored the tying run on a sacrifice fly by Andre Thornton. Remy then muffed a grounder by Rico Carty, scoring Bell, and another run followed on singles by Bruce Bochte and Larvell Blanks. In the nightcap, Dave Chalk drove in the Angels' first two runs with a bases-loaded single in the fourth inning and added a third RBI with another single in the eighth. Ken Brett held the Indians to five hits in seven innings before Dyar Miller and Dave LaRoche finished up.

Royals 4, Brewers 3 at Milwaukee (night game):
The Royals tied the Kansas City club record with their eighth consecutive victory when John Wathan and Amos Otis drove in runs in the 15th inning to beat the Brewers, 4-3. Sal Bando homered for the Brewers in the second. The Royals scored twice in the fifth on singles by Bob Heise, Hal McRae, George Brett and Al Cowens, but the Brewers knotted the count in the seventh on a pass to Robin Yount, a sacrifice and single by Charlie Moore. In the 15th, John Mayberry walked and raced home from first when Wathan doubled. Wathan took third on the throw and counted what proved to be the deciding run on a single by Otis. The Brewers fell short with one run in their half of the 15th on a pass to Steve Brye and singles by Jim Wohlford and Cecil Cooper.

Yankees 11, Twins 1 at New York (night game):
Starting with a three-run homer by Chris Chambliss in the first inning, the Yankees proceeded to trounce the Twins, 11-1, for their 15th victory in 17 games. Graig Nettles drove in the next two runs with a single in the fourth. After Roy White singled in the sixth, Bucky Dent and Mickey Rivers followed with homers on consecutive pitches. Rivers' hit was his eighth straight over two games before his streak ended with a strikeout in the eighth. However, the Yankees counted three times in that frame on a homer by White and bases-loaded single by Reggie Jackson. Catfish Hunter held the Twins to four hits with their only run coming in the first inning on a triple by Lyman Bostock and sacrifice fly by Roy Smalley.

[DH] A's 3, Tigers 1 (night game) / A's 6, Tigers 5 at Oakland (night game):
After the pitching of Vida Blue and batting of Jerry Tabb produced a 3-1 victory in the first game, the Athletics scored an unearned run in the 10th inning of the second game and beat the Tigers, 6-5, to complete the sweep of a twi-night doubleheader. Tabb drove in two runs in the opener with a single and homer, while Blue pitched a four-hitter in a duel with Dave Rozema. In the nightcap, the A's had homers by Jim Tyrone and Jeff Newman while taking a 5-3 lead, but the Tigers tied the score in the eighth inning on a pass with the bases loaded and a wild pitch. Mitchell Page drew a pass from John Hiller in the A's 10th and stole second with two away before Wayne Gross walked. Tim Hosley then hit a grounder that bounced off Tom Veryzer's glove into left field, enabling Page to race home from second with the winning run.

[DH] Blue Jays 7, Mariners 0 (night game) / Blue Jays 9, Mariners 3 at Seattle (night game):
Hector Torres hit a three-run homer in the first game and batted in three more runs with a double and single in the second game as the Blue Jays defeated the Mariners, 7-0 and 9-3, in a twi-night doubleheader. Jerry Garvin pitched the first shutout of his major league career in the opener. The Blue Jays had a homer by Ron Fairly in the second inning and another by Doug Rader in the fifth before Torres hit for the circuit in the seventh after a pass to Otto Velez and single by Ron Fairly. In the nightcap, the Mariners took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a homer by Leroy Stanton, but the Blue Jays got one back on a double by Rader and single by Torres in the second before Rader tied the score with a round-tripper in the fourth. After Fairly hit a two-run single in the fifth, the Blue Jays scored five times in the seventh, two crossing the plate on a double by Torres and two on a single by Rick Cerone.

Braves 4, Cubs 3 at Atlanta (night game):
Junior Moore's speed in beating the throw to first on what would have been an inning-ending double play enabled the Braves to defeat the Cubs, 4-3. Rowland Office and Willie Montanez hit homers for the Braves, while the Cubs had circuit clouts by Steve Ontiveros and Greg Gross. In the eighth inning, Jeff Burroughs singled with one out and took third on a single by Montanez. Moore then forced Montanez and Burroughs scored the winning run when the Cubs failed to complete the double play with a late throw to first.

Reds 11, Mets 4 at Cincinnati (night game):
Dave Concepcion had a perfect night at bat with a single, two doubles and a triple as the Reds piled up 15 hits to defeat the Mets, 11-4. Joe Morgan and George Foster smashed homers in the Reds' attack. Doug Capilla limited the Mets to five hits, but the rookie lefthander was lifted in the ninth inning when the Mets rallied for three runs, two scoring on a homer by Mike Vail.

Astros 3, Phillies 1 at Houston (night game):
The Phillies collected only five hits off Joe Niekro and were stopped on their six-game winning streak by the Astros, 3-1. Niekro was safe on an error by Larry Bowa in the third inning and scored the Astros' first run on a double by Enos Cabell. Singles by Terry Puhl, Cabell and Joe Ferguson added a tally in the sixth. The Astros, who snapped their six-game losing streak, clinched the verdict with a run on a walk to Rob Sperring and singles by Puhl and Cabell in the seventh. Jerry Martin saved the Phillies from being shut out by hitting a homer in the eighth.

Dodgers 2, Pirates 1 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Reggie Smith homered in the third inning and knocked in another run with a two-out single in the 10th to give the Dodgers a 2-1 victory over the Pirates. Tommy John was rapped for 11 hits by the Pirates, but their only run was unearned when Frank Taveras singled, stole second and third and scored on a wild throw by Steve Yeager in the home half of the third. In the 10th, Lee Lacy drew a walk from Rich Gossage with two away and stole second. After Bill Russell beat out an infield hit, Smith singled to plate the winning run.

Cardinals 3, Giants 2 at St. Louis (night game):
Although held to only three hits by Ed Halicki, the Cardinals were able to defeat the Giants, 3-2, behind the effective hurling of John Urrea and Al Hrabosky. Urrea worked 7 2/3 innings and yielded four hits, including a leadoff homer by Derrel Thomas. The Cardinals came back in their half of the first with their three hits off Halicki, scoring twice on back-to-back triples by Jerry Mumphrey and Garry Templeton and a single by Ted Simmons. Halicki walked Mike Anderson in the fourth and then beat himself with a wild pitch after Anderson stole second and reached third on an infield out.
