Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 4, Royals 2 at Baltimore (night game):
The Royals' club record 10-game winning streak was stopped by the Orioles, 4-2. Andres Mora and Rich Dauer each drove in two runs for the Orioles. Lee May singled, Doug DeCinces doubled and both scored on a single by Mora in the sixth inning. Dauer added the other pair with a double in the seventh after a single by Dave Skaggs and double by Al Bumbry. George Brett had four hits for the Royals and Hal McRae set a K.C. club record for doubles with his 41st of the season.

Red Sox 7, Twins 5 at Boston (day game):
After putting on a power display with four homers, the Red Sox pushed over two runs in the eighth inning and defeated the Twins, 7-5. Tommy Helms homered with a man on base in the third and Butch Hobson followed with a four-bagger, marking the 15th time this season that the Red Sox hit back-to-back homers. Bob Montgomery joined in the slugging in the fifth and George Scott in the sixth. The Red Sox then posted their deciding pair in the eighth on a walk to Helms, double by Hobson and successive sacrifice flies by Carl Yastrzemski and Jim Rice. Rod Carew had two hits for the Twins, driving in one run and scoring another.

White Sox 7, Brewers 6 at Chicago (night game):
Chet Lemon hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning to provide the White Sox with a 7-6 victory over the Brewers. Brian Downing was hit by a pitch and Ralph Garr walked ahead of Lemon's drive that erased the Brewers' 6-4 lead. The Brewers had a two-run homer by Charlie Moore in the fourth. After Lamar Johnson tied the score with a circuit clout in the fifth, the Brewers loaded bases with the aid of an error in the seventh and went ahead with two runs on a sacrifice fly by Cecil Cooper and single by Don Money.

Indians 10, Mariners 0 at Cleveland (night game):
Dennis Eckersley pitched a four-hitter as the Indians rolled up a 10-0 victory over the Mariners. Eckersley faced only 29 batters. Leroy Stanton and Craig Reynolds, who hit singles for the Mariners, were erased on double plays. Ruppert Jones doubled in the fifth and Carlos Lopez in the eighth for the Mariners' other hits. Andre Thornton led the Indians' attack with a double and two singles, driving in three runs and scoring three.

Tigers 7, Angels 6 at Detroit (day game):
Milt May hit homers in two consecutive times at bat, with his second smash accounting for the Tigers' 7-6 victory over the Angels. The Tigers also had a homer by Jason Thompson in the second inning. The Angels scored two runs in the fifth and went ahead with two more in the sixth on a homer by Tony Solaita and RBI double by Rance Mulliniks. May tied the score in the Tigers' half with his first homer of the game. After the clubs forged another tie at 6-6, May accounted for the victory with his second homer in the eighth.

Rangers 8, Yankees 2 at New York (day game):
Five homers, including consecutive inside-the-park blows by Toby Harrah and Bump Wills in the seventh inning, powered the Rangers to an 8-2 victory over the Yankees. Mike Hargrove, Wills and Bert Campaneris whacked pitches out of the park and Wills batted in another run with a single for a 4-2 lead going into the seventh. Then, with two men on base, Harrah smashed a drive against the right field wall. When Lou Piniella crashed into the fence trying for the catch, the ball bounced halfway back to the infield as Harrah circled the bases. Wills followed with a drive to deep center off Mickey Rivers' glove for the second inside-the-park homer, marking the first time that any club had hit such back-to-back blows in A. L. history. The feat had been accomplished only once in the N. L. by Marv Rickert and Eddie Waitkus of the Cubs at old the Polo Grounds against the New York Giants June 23, 1946.

A's 9, Blue Jays 8 at Toronto (day game):
The Athletics collected 18 hits and stole six bases, both representing their season highs, but they still had difficulty beating the Blue Jays, 9-8. The Blue Jays had only nine hits, including a homer by Doug Rader. Two unearned runs in the third inning proved essential to the A's, who finally decided the outcome in the seventh when Rob Picciolo batted in two runs with a single.

Braves 5, Mets 4 at Atlanta (night game):
After failing to hold a 4-0 lead, the Braves scored in the 10th inning on singles by Gary Matthews, Junior Moore and Pat Rockett to defeat the Mets, 5-4. Vic Correll was charged with four passed balls in handling the knuckleball pitching of Phil Niekro, but none figured the in Mets' scoring. Moore batted in two runs with a single and Jeff Burroughs hit a homer as the Braves built up their early lead. The Mets counted twice on a homer by John Milner and singles by Lee Mazzilli, John Stearns and Leo Foster in the seventh inning before tying the score in the eighth when Steve Henderson singled and Milner smashed his second round-tripper of the game.

Reds 6, Phillies 5 at Cincinnati (day game):
With two out in the ninth inning, Dan Driessen hit an inside-the-park homer and Johnny Bench followed with a smash over the fence to carry the Reds to a 6-5 victory over the Phillies, who suffered their fourth straight defeat. Homers by Mike Schmidt and Barry Foote accounted for the Phillies' first three runs before the Reds came back to tie the score with the aid of a round-tripper by Joe Morgan. After the Phils went ahead again with a sacrifice fly by Bake McBride in the eighth, the Reds scored a matching run on a triple by Bob Bailey and single by Pete Rose. The Phillies then led for the last time when Richie Hebner hit a sacrifice fly in the ninth before Driessen circled the bases and Bench tagged Tug McGraw for the winning homer.

Astros 4, Expos 0 at Houston (night game):
Three-hit pitching by J.R. Richard enabled the Astros to defeat the Expos, 4-0, for their fourth straight victory. Art Howe hit a triple and single, driving in two runs, and Jose Cruz, who had three hits, scored twice in the Astros' support of Richard.

Dodgers 4, Cardinals 3 at Los Angeles (night game):
Rallying for two runs in the ninth inning, the Dodgers defeated the Cardinals, 4-3. Manny Mota batted for Elias Sosa and drew a walk to start the stanza. Rafael Landestoy, coming in to run for Mota, advanced on a sacrifice by Davey Lopes and scored the tying run on a single by Bill Russell. Reggie Smith singled, sending Russell to third. After an intentional pass to Ron Cey, Steve Garvey hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Russell with the winning run.

Pirates 4, Padres 0 at San Diego (night game):
Bill Robinson and Phil Garner each drove in two of the Pirates' runs to back the shutout pitching of Jerry Reuss in a 4-0 victory over the Padres.

Giants 7, Cubs 1 at San Francisco (day game):
Bob Knepper, Giants' rookie lefthander, pitched a three-hitter and breezed to a 7-1 victory over the Cubs. After singles by Ivan DeJesus and Bobby Murcer around an error by Vic Harris produced an unearned run in the first inning, the Cubs did not get another hit until Bill Buckner singled in the ninth. Jack Clark led the Giants at bat with a single and triple, driving in three runs.
