Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 8, Angels 2 at Baltimore (night game):
The Orioles capitalized on three walks in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh to score an 8-2 victory over the Angels. Ken Brett, who was pitching a one-hitter for the Angels, passed Mark Belanger and Dave Skaggs in the sixth and gave up a run on a single by Al Bumbry. Dave LaRoche relieved. After Rich Dauer forced Skaggs, Ken Singleton walked to load the bases. Andres Mora grounded out, scoring Bumbry, and Eddie Murray followed with a single to drive in Dauer and Singleton. Bumbry batted in two runs with a single in the seventh.

Red Sox 7, A's 2 at Boston (night game):
Fred Lynn drove in three runs with a homer and sacrifice fly, while Rick Burleson accounted for two RBIs with a single and sacrifice fly, as the Red Sox halted the Athletics' six-game winning streak, 7-2. Denny Doyle, who collected four hits, doubled in the third inning and scored on a single by Burleson. Lynn hit his homer after a single by George Scott in the fifth. Burleson's sacrifice fly added a run in the seventh and Lynn hit his scoring fly in the eighth when the Red Sox had doubles by Butch Hobson, Carl Yastrzemski and Doyle.

White Sox 3, Indians 1 at Cleveland (night game):
The White Sox scored three runs in the third inning, two of them unearned on an error by Frank Duffy, and defeated the Indians, 3-1. With one away, the White Sox loaded the bases on a pass to Don Kessinger and singles by Brian Downing and Ralph Garr. Kessinger scored on a grounder by Chet Lemon and when Duffy booted the ball, Lemon was safe to reload the sacks. After Jorge Orta struck out, Lamar Johnson lined a single to drive in Downing and Garr. Ken Kravec, pitching for the White Sox, was within one out of his first major league shutout before giving way under the Indians' threat in the ninth. Lerrin LaGrow relieved and gave up a single by Rico Carty, driving in the Indians' run, before Dave Hamilton came in to get the third out.

Rangers 8, Royals 2 at Kansas City (night game):
Gaylord Perry stifled the Royals on four hits and pitched the Rangers to an 8-2 victory. The Rangers collected 13 hits, including homers by Willie Horton and Toby Harrah. Horton also had a double and sacrifice fly to account for three RBIs. Bert Campaneris beat out a bunt in the first inning for the 2,000th hit of his major league career. The veteran shortstop also doubled and hit two more singles in five trips. The Royals scored their runs in the second inning on a walk to Darrell Porter, triple by Amos Otis and infield out by Fred Patek.

Tigers 4, Brewers 2 at Milwaukee (night game):
Dave Rozema, the Tigers' cinch candidate for A. L. Rookie Pitcher of the Year honors, gained his 15th victory, beating the Brewers, 4-2. The Tigers did their scoring early. Ron LeFlore led off with a triple and crossed the plate on an infield out by Tito Fuentes. Rusty Staub followed with a single and counted on a double by Steve Kemp and sacrifice fly by Jason Thompson. Milt May singled and Aurelio Rodriguez homered for the Tigers' other pair in the second before the Brewers scored twice in their half on a double by Sal Bando, singles by Ed Kirkpatrick and Robin Yount and an infield out by Charlie Moore.

Yankees 6, Mariners 5 at New York (night game):
Mickey Rivers homered on the first pitch thrown to him by Diego Segui in the 11th inning to give the Yankees a 6-5 victory over the Mariners. The Yankees, who had a three-run homer by Graig Nettles in the fifth, built up a 5-2 lead before the Mariners rallied to tie the score in the eighth. Dan Meyer, Ruppert Jones and Carlos Lopez singled for one run to kayo Ed Figueroa. After Sparky Lyle relieved, the tying tallies followed on a single by Leroy Stanton and sacrifice fly by Bill Stein. Lyle went on to gain the victory while Segui, who relieved in the 10th, was the loser in the next stanza on Rivers' rap.

Astros 6, Mets 2 at Houston (night game):
The Astros extended their winning streak to six games with a 6-2 victory while the Mets suffered their sixth straight defeat. Wilbur Howard knocked in the Astros' first two runs with a single and double. Enos Cabell then chipped in with a two-run double in the fifth when the Astros put the game away by scoring four times. Bruce Boisclair collected four of the Mets' 11 hits off Joe Niekro, who turned in his fourth complete-game victory in four starts at home this season.

Cubs 4, Dodgers 1 at Los Angeles (night game):
Rick Reuschel became the major leagues' leading winner with his 19th victory when the Cubs defeated the Dodgers, 4-1. The Dodgers scored their run in the third inning on a single by Davey Lopes and double by Bill Russell. After Bill Buckner and Gene Clines hit doubles for a matching tally in the fourth, the Cubs loaded the bases in the sixth on a double by Jose Cardenal, single by Buckner and pass to Bobby Murcer and scored two runs on sacrifice flies by Clines and Steve Ontiveros. A walk to Ivan DeJesus, single by Cardenal and sacrifice fly by Buckner added the last run in the eighth. Reuschel was lifted after giving up a leadoff single by Reggie Smith in the ninth and Bruce Sutter retired the last three batters.

Reds 4, Expos 3 at Montreal (night game):
George Foster, who hit his 44th homer of the season with a man on base in the first inning, also singled in the seventh and drove in what proved to be the Reds' winning run in a 4-3 victory over the Expos. After Foster's blast in the first, the Reds added a run in the fourth on singles by Dan Driessen and Johnny Bench and a grounder by Mike Lum. After Foster's single in the seventh scored Fred Norman to put the Reds ahead, 4-1, the Expos rallied for two runs in the ninth, but their potential tying run was cut off at the plate. When Tony Perez doubled, Warren Cromartie tried to score from first base, but he was nailed on center fielder Cesar Geronimo's throw to Dave Concepcion and the shortstop's relay to catcher Bench.

Phillies 11, Braves 2 at Philadelphia (night game):
Jim Kaat gained the 253rd victory of his career, tying the veteran lefthander with Carl Hubbell for 25th place on the major leagues' all-time list, as the Phillies battered the Braves, 11-2. Kaat also increased his career total for innings pitched to 4,001. Garry Maddox hit a three-run homer in the Phillies' attack.

Padres 7, Cardinals 4 at San Diego (night game):
The Cardinals were beaten by Bob Owchinko for the fourth time this season when the rookie received credit for the Padres' 7-4 victory, extending the Redbirds' losing streak to six games. The Cards started with two runs in the first inning on a walk by Rick Bosetti and homer by Garry Templeton, but the Padres rebounded with four in their half on four singles and a walk. George Hendrick knocked in a pair with a single. Hendrick also doubled and scored on two ground balls in the third before accounting for his third RBI of the game with an infield out in the fourth.

Pirates 3, Giants 1 at San Francisco (night game):
John Candelaria traveled the route for only the fourth time this season but gained his 15th victory for the Pirates, pitching a four-hitter to defeat the Giants, 3-1. Derrel Thomas homered in the sixth inning for the Giants' run. Phil Garner had three hits and a walk in five trips to the plate, drove in one run, stole three bases and scored twice to stand out in the Pirates' support of Candelaria.
