Red Sox 3, Indians 1 at Boston (day game):
Carl Yastrzemski drove in one run and scored another to lead the Red Sox to a 3-1 victory over the Indians. The Red Sox got off to a two-run start in the first inning on doubles by Bernie Carbo and Fred Lynn and a single by Yastrzemski, who then doubled in the eighth and scored on a triple by Jim Rice. The Indians loaded the bases against Bill Lee with none out in the seventh but scored only one run on a sacrifice fly by Rico Carty. Jim Willoughby replaced Lee after Duane Kuiper singled with two out in the eighth and Reggie Cleveland took over to earn the save after Andre Thornton walked to open the ninth.
Brewers 1, Tigers 0 at Milwaukee (night game):
Jim Wohlford singled in the fourth inning and scored with two out on a double by Ed Kirkpatrick to give the Brewers a 1-0 victory over the Tigers behind the pitching of Jerry Augustine and Eduardo Rodriguez. Augustine, who allowed only five hits, was removed after Milt May singled with one out in the ninth. Rodriguez retired the last two batters.
