Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 6, Indians 5 at Baltimore (night game):
A single by Doug DeCinces in the 11th inning climaxed a two-run rally and brought the Orioles a 6-5 victory over the Indians. The Orioles, after picking up a run in the fifth, went ahead, 4-0, when Andres Mora homered with two men on base in the seventh, but the Indians rallied to tie the score in the ninth. John Lowenstein, pinch-hitting, accounted for one run with a double and, after remaining in the game, smashed a homer in the 11th. The Orioles began their rally with a single by Pat Kelly and pass to Tony Muser. Mike Dimmel laid down a sacrifice and Eddie Murray followed with a single, driving in Kelly to tie the score. DeCinces then whacked a drive that hit the right-field wall on one bounce as Muser waltzed across the plate with the winning run.

Red Sox 7, Tigers 1 at Boston (day game):
After being held to a pair of singles in the first five innings, the Red Sox broke loose to defeat the Tigers, 7-1, behind the five-hit pitching of Don Aase. Bernie Carbo awoke the Red Sox with a homer to lead off the sixth, tying the score at 1-1. Fred Lynn walked and Carl Yastrzemski singled to chase Milt Wilcox, who wound up with his first defeat of the season after six victories. Jim Rice greeted Steve Foucault with a single, scoring Lynn. One out later, George Scott doubled, driving in Yastrzemski and Rice.

Angels 6, White Sox 1 at California (day game):
Bobby Bonds hit a three-run homer, raising his RBI total to a career high of 103, and John Caneira gained the victory in his major league debut as the Angels defeated the White Sox, 6-1. Wilbur Wood, who started for the White Sox, tied a major league record by hitting three consecutive batters with pitched balls in the first inning. Bonds hit his homer in the second and Ron Jackson added a solo swat in the fifth. Caneira pitched seven innings, allowing five hits, and retired the last 11 batters he faced before Dyar Miller came in and finished with two perfect innings.

Royals 10, Twins 1 at Minnesota (night game):
Darrell Porter rapped two singles, giving the Royals' catcher a total of 11 hits in his last four games, as the West Division leaders trounced the Twins, 10-1, for their 11th straight victory. Porter drove in two runs. Fred Patek also accounted for two RBIs with a bases-loaded single to help Paul Splittorff breeze to victory.

Blue Jays 19, Yankees 3 at New York (day game):
Roy Howell batted in nine runs with two homers, two doubles and a single and the Blue Jays piled up a team record 20 hits while walloping the Yankees, 19-3. Doubles by Al Woods and Howell and a single by Ron Fairly started the Blue Jays' scoring in the first inning. Fairly's RBI was the 1,000th of his career. Howell and Fairly hit homers in the third. Howell drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single in the sixth, hit his second homer of the game with two men on base in the seventh and climaxed his great day with a two-run double in the ninth.

A's 4, Brewers 1 at Oakland (night game):
Doc Medich, who had been demoted to the bullpen on the orders of owner Charlie Finley, pitched four shutout innings in relief and gained his 10th victory when the Athletics defeated the Brewers, 4-1. Mike Jorgensen had two hits and drove in two of the A's runs. Pablo Torrealba gave up the Brewers' tally in the fifth on a double by Steve Brye, single by Charlie Moore and grounder by Robin Yount. After taking over in the sixth, Medich allowed only two hits the rest of the way.

[DH] Rangers 5, Mariners 2 (night game) / Rangers 7, Mariners 1 at Seattle (night game):
Aided by four unearned runs, the Rangers won the first game of a twi-night doubleheader, 5-2, before powering their way to a 7-1 victory over the Mariners in the second game. In the opener, the Rangers capitalized on an error by Craig Reynolds for a run in the first inning and loaded the bases on another miscue by the shortstop in the fourth. Toby Harrah then drove in one run with a sacrifice fly and Ken Henderson plated a pair with a single. Leroy Stanton homered with a man on base for the Mariners. In the nightcap, Tom Grieve provided the Rangers' big blow by hitting a grand slam off Mike Kekich in the sixth inning.

Braves 9, Padres 6 at Atlanta (night game):
Gary Matthews hit four singles and figured in the production of six runs, driving in four and scoring two, as the Braves defeated the Padres, 9-6. Willie Montanez contributed a homer to the Braves' cause. Tucker Ashford accounted for two of the Padres' runs with a single and homer.

Mets 7, Cubs 2 at Chicago (day game):

Seaver gave up 10 hits in eight innings but allowed only two runs before turning the mound over to Pedro Borbon.

Astros 2, Giants 0 at Houston (night game):
With a two-run homer by Cesar Cedeno accounting for the scoring, the Astros defeated the Giants, 2-0, behind the combined three-hit pitching of Mark Lemongello and Joe Sambito. Cedeno's homer off Bob Knepper followed a single by Enos Cabell in the sixth inning. Lemongello was hit on the right hand by a pitched ball in the seventh and left the game.

Phillies 3, Cardinals 1 at Philadelphia (night game):
A two-run double by Bob Boone in the fourth inning backed up the pitching of Randy Lerch as the Phillies defeated the Cardinals, 3-1. The complete game was Lerch's first since beating the Cardinals July 12. The Cards' only tally came in the fourth when Garry Templeton doubled and Keith Hernandez singled. In the Phillies' half, Jay Johnstone walked and took third on a single by Garry Maddox. After Maddox stole second, Boone hit his double. The Phillies added an insurance run in the fifth. Bake McBride singled, stole second and scored on a double by Larry Bowa.
