Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 6, Red Sox 1 at Baltimore (night game):
Eddie Murray belted his 22nd homer of the season to give the Orioles a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning and they went on to down the Red Sox, 6-1. The blast tied the club record for most homers by a rookie. Ken Singleton doubled in two runs in the fifth and Lee May hit a two-run homer in the eighth. Jim Palmer, in trouble the last four frames, stranded six runners from the sixth inning on.

Angels 4, White Sox 1 at Chicago (night game):
Paul Hartzell went the route for the fifth time as the Angels topped the White Sox, 4-1. Thad Bosley drove in two runs for the victors, one on a second-inning infield out and the other on a single in the sixth.

Yankees 5, Tigers 4 at Detroit (night game):
The Yankees rallied for four runs in the eighth to tame the Tigers, 5-4. Trailing, 3-1, the New Yorkers got singles from Reggie Jackson and Graig Nettles. Lou Piniella then doubled off the left field wall and Paul Blair homered off reliever Bruce Taylor, who just had entered the game.

Mariners 4, Royals 1 at Kansas City (night game):
Pinch-hitter Craig Reynolds' RBI single in the eighth inning snapped a 1-1 tie and propelled the Mariners to a 4-1 victory over the Royals. The defeat snapped the 16-game K. C. winning streak, longest in the major leagues in 24 years and just three short of the record set in 1906 by the Chicago White Sox. The winning rally came about when Juan Bernhardt singled and took second on a sacrifice bunt. He scored when Reynolds lined a shot to center. The Mariners got two insurance runs in the ninth on a single, two doubles and an error.

A's 8, Brewers 1 at Milwaukee (night game):
MIke Jorgensen's three-run homer in the first inning sent the A's on their way to an 8-1 rout of the Brewers. The circuit clout came after Rodney Scott walked and Rob Picciolo reached first base on an error.

Twins 9, Rangers 7 at Texas (night game):
The Twins erupted for six runs in the seventh inning and defeated the Rangers, 9-7. The big frame began when Larry Wolfe reached first on an error. After Bob Gorinski bounced into a forceout, Butch Wynegar walked and Jerry Terrell doubled home both runners. Roy Smalley plated Terrell with a single. Willie Norwood walked, Rod Carew singled Smalley home and moved to second on the throw to the plate. Wolfe's first hit in the majors scored Norwood and Carew.

Dodgers 3, Braves 2 at Los Angeles (night game):
Davey Lopes singled with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the ninth to give the Dodgers a 3-2 victory over the Braves. The hit came after Dusty Baker opened the frame with a single off Eddie Solomon. Rick Monday then walked and Dave Campbell relieved on the mound. The Braves missed on a try for a forceout at third on Jerry Grote's sacrifice bunt. One out later, Lopes smacked the ball over drawn-in center fielder Barry Bonnell's head. The Braves had an early 2-0 lead, but the Dodgers got a pair of unearned runs in the seventh on a wild pitch and Manny Mota's bunt single.

Expos 5, Pirates 0 at Montreal (night game):
Tony Perez cracked a two-run homer and Gary Carter added his 27th circuit clout of the season as the Expos blanked the Pirates, 5-0. Dan Schatzeder, starting his first major league game, pitched 6 1/3 innings to garner his first victory.

Padres 4, Astros 3 at San Diego (night game):
Gene Richards singled with two out in the 10th to score Gene Tenace from third with the winning run as the Padres took a 4-3 verdict over the Astros. Tenace opened the inning with a walk. Third baseman Enos Cabell threw wildly on Mike Champion's bunt and Tucker Ashford sacrificed the runners along. After Dave Roberts was retired, Richards bounced a single to center. The Astros had tied the score in the seventh when Cabell, aboard on a fielder's choice, stole second and third before tallying on a sacrifice fly by Cesar Cedeno.

Reds 5, Giants 3 at San Francisco (night game):
Dan Driessen had two doubles and a triple, scored a run and drove in two others to lead the Reds to a 5-3 triumph over the Giants. Driessen doubled and scored as the Reds took a 2-0 lead in the second, doubled to knock in a run in the third and drove in another tally with a triple in the eighth. Doug Capilla had a three-hit shutout going before leaving the game after six innings with a sore back.
