Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 6, Tigers 3 at Baltimore (night game):
Eddie Murray drove in four runs with a pair of singles, enabling the Orioles to defeat the Tigers, 6-3. Murray started the Orioles' scoring with a two-run single in the first inning after a single by Ken Singleton and ground-rule double by Lee May. Singleton hit his career high 24th homer following a double by Rich Dauer in the third. Murray wrapped up the Orioles' scoring with a two-run single in the seventh. Lance Parrish homered for the Tigers in the seventh and John Wockenfuss singled home two runs in the ninth.

Red Sox 7, Blue Jays 3 at Boston (day game):
After going 14 games without driving in any runs, Jim Rice broke his drouth with four RBIs to pace the Red Sox to a 7-3 victory over the Blue Jays. The Red Sox erased a 2-0 deficit when Rice homered with two men on base in the fourth inning. The Blue Jays tied the score in the fifth, but the Red Sox went ahead to stay with two runs in the fifth on a double by Butch Hobson, pass to Rick Burleson, single by Ted Cox and sacrifice fly by Rice for his fourth RBI.

Royals 6, Angels 3 at Kansas City (night game):
The Royals, returning home after losing four games in Oakland, gained their 100th victory of the season by defeating the Angels, 6-3. Clint Hurdle batted in two runs with a homer and single to highlight the Royals' 14-hit attack. This was the first time in Royals' history that the club had won 100 games. Their previous best was 91 victories in 1975.

Indians 4, Yankees 1 at New York (night game):
Wayne Garland, who won 20 games for the Orioles last season, avoided his 20th loss with the Indians by pitching a six-hitter to defeat the Yankees, 4-1, and delay the New York club's clinching of the East Division title. Ed Figueroa, who started for the Yankees, strained a muscle in his left side and left the game after yielding the Indians' first run in the third inning. Alfredo Griffin, who scored it, walked, stole second, took third on a single by Dave Oliver and crossed the plate on a forceout by Larvell Blanks. Rick Manning homered off reliever Ken Clay in the fourth. A single by Griffin, pass to Jim Norris and single by Oliver added a run in the fifth before the Indians picked up their final marker on an error by Bucky Dent in the seventh. The Yankees spoiled Garland's shutout bid when Roy White walked and Reggie Jackson doubled in the eighth.

Mariners 2, Rangers 1 at Texas (night game):
Singles by Bob Stinson, Craig Reynolds and Julio Cruz in the ninth inning produced the run that gave the Mariners a 2-1 victory over the Rangers. The Mariners scored their first run in the second inning on singles by Leroy Stanton and Bill Stein around a sacrifice and wild pitch.

Astros 4, Dodgers 2 at Los Angeles (night game):
Bob Watson hit a two-run homer off 20-game winner Tommy John to give the Astros a 4-2 victory over the Dodgers. The Astros counted their initial pair in the fourth inning on an error by Ron Cey, pass to Watson, single by Art Howe and forceout by Denny Walling. Cesar Cedeno singled in the fifth ahead of Watson's wallop. Steve Garvey hit his 33rd homer for the Dodgers, the most for any Los Angeles player since the club moved west from Brooklyn.

Expos 7, Phillies 2 at Philadelphia (night game):
The Expos jumped on Steve Carlton for four runs in the first inning and defeated the Phillies, 7-2. Chris Speier singled, Andre Dawson walked and, after two out, the Expos tagged the Phils' 23-game winner for a single by Ellis Valentine, double by Gary Carter and single by Larry Parrish. The Phillies scored on back-to-back homers by Greg Luzinski and Richie Hebner in the second. After his initial troubles, Carlton pitched scoreless ball before leaving the game after eight innings. The Expos added their final runs off Ron Reed in the ninth.

Pirates 5, Mets 2 at Pittsburgh (night game):
Phil Garner batted in three runs with two singles and a triple and Terry Forster helped himself with a run-scoring double as the Pirates defeated the Mets, 5-2. Doc Medich, obtained on waivers from the Mariners, was the loser in his first appearance with the Mets.
