Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 1, Twins 0 at California (day game):
Joe Rudi smashed a 3-2 pitch over the left field wall with one out in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the Angels a 1-0 triumph over the Twins. Reliever Dave LaRoche, who pitched the top of 11th, got credit for the victory. Nolan Ryan hurled the first 10 frames, yielding just four hits while striking out 12 batters. His 12th strikeout moved him to No. 14 on the majors' all-time list and gave him a career total of 2,451. The Angel fireballer has given up only six hits and struck out 25 in 16 innings of the young season.

Yankees 4, White Sox 2 at New York (day game):
Reggie Jackson's three-run homer in the first inning propelled the Yankees to a 4-2 victory over the White Sox in their home opener before 44,667. The circuit clout followed a walk to Willie Randolph and single by Mickey Rivers. As Jackson completed his tour of the bases, the field was littered with hundreds of "Reggie" candy bars named after the Yankee slugger. The confection had been distributed free to the fans.

A's 3, Mariners 1 at Oakland (day game):
Gary Alexander drilled a two-run homer with one out in the bottom of the ninth to give the A's a 3-1 decision over the Mariners and extend the club winning streak to four games. Steve Staggs walked before Alexander unloaded deep into the left field stands for his third game-winning hit of the season.

Reds 7, Giants 6 at Cincinnati (day game):
A pinch double by Rick Auerbach scored Ray Knight from first base with the winning run in the 13th inning as the Reds edged the Giants, 7-6. Knight walked with one out. The Reds came back from a 6-3 deficit in the eighth with three runs, scoring their tying tally when left fielder Vic Harris lost Pete Rose's drive in the sun. Rose was credited with a triple.

Cardinals 6, Pirates 5 at St. Louis (day game):
The Cardinals completed the three-game sweep of their series against the Pirates, racking up a 6-5 victory on Ted Simmons' three hits and Mike Phillips' two-run triple. The Cards jumped on starter Bert Blyleven for three runs in the first on singles by Garry Templeton and Jerry Morales around a stolen base and doubles by Simmons and Keith Hernandez. The Cards got three more in the third on a single by Simmons, walk to Ken Reitz, single by Jerry Mumphrey and Phillips' triple. Eric Rasmussen hurled the Cards' third straight complete game and Blyleven lost his first N.L. decision.
