[DH] Orioles 7, Brewers 5 (day game) / Brewers 9, Orioles 2 at Baltimore (day game):
Gorman Thomas clouted a two-run homer and Cecil Cooper doubled across two more runs, enabling the Brewers to gain a 9-2 victory and salvage a split of a doubleheader with the Orioles. Lee May drove in four runs in the Orioles' 7-5 first-game victory with a pair of homers and a single. Thomas' second-game round-tripper came in the fourth inning after Larry Hisle reached first on a walk. Cooper's double followed singles by Hisle and Dick Davis. Hisle and Davis hit back-to-back homers in the eighth.

Red Sox 8, Rangers 6 at Boston (day game):
The Red Sox took advantage of nine walks, a hit batsman and two wild pitches to stretch their winning streak to four by downing the Rangers, 8-6. Butch Hobson finished his weekend barrage with two hits and drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning. For the three-game series, the Bosox third baseman was 8-for-13 with two homers and six RBIs.

Royals 2, Indians 1 at Kansas City (day game):
The Royals posted their sixth straight triumph, 2-1, over the Indians, getting both their runs in the seventh inning. Al Cowens led off with a single and after Darrell Porter struck out, Amos Otis was hit by a pitch. Clint Hurdle's single to center scored Cowens. Freddie Patek stroked an infield hit to load the bases and Frank White then placed a sacrifice bunt to plate the winning tally. The Tribe's run came in the fourth when Paul Dade singled, stole second, took third on a wild pitch and came home on Johnny Grubb's sacrifice fly.

[DH] Mariners 8, Twins 5 (day game) / Mariners 7, Twins 2 at Minnesota (day game):
Bob Stinson drove in three runs in the opener and slugged a two-run homer in the nightcap to lead the Mariners to an 8-5 and 7-2 doubleheader sweep of the Twins. The first-game victory snapped a Mariner eight-game losing streak. In the opener, the Mariners got four runs in the first with Stinson's two-run single as the big hit of the inning. The Seattle catcher also drove home a fifth-inning run with the double. In the nightcap, Stinson hit his homer after a walk to Craig Reynolds to spark a five-run outburst in the third inning. Jose Baez followed with a single and after three straight balls, Dan Meyer hit a bases-loaded single.

Yankees 3, White Sox 0 at New York (day game):
Dick Tidrow and Sparky Lyle combined on a shutout as the Yankees completed a three-game sweep of their series with a 3-0 victory over the White Sox. the Yankees scored twice in the second inning on a pair of walks, a long flyout, a wild pitch and Graig Nettles' RBI single. The final tally came in the seventh when Paul Blair singled home Bucky Dent.

Angels 2, A's 1 at Oakland (day game):
A dropped throw on an attempted forceout enabled the winning run to score as the Angels snapped the A's five-game winning streak with a 2-1 victory in 11 innings. Don Baylor beat out an infield hit to start the decisive stanza, went to second on a sacrifice and to third on Rance Mulliniks' long fly. Tony Solaita drew an intentional walk and Brian Downing drew an unintentional walk. Rick Miller then followed with a grounder to short on which Mario Guerrero threw to Steve Staggs for what should have been the inning-ending out. But Staggs dropped the ball and Baylor scored the winning run. The Angels' other run came on a homer by Baylor in the fifth. The A's lone tally came in on Dave Revering's first major league homer in the seventh. Angel catcher Downing threw out five runners attempting to steal.

Tigers 4, Blue Jays 3 at Toronto (day game):
Jason Thompson's single broke a 3-3 tie in the seventh inning and gave the Tigers a 4-3 decision over the Blue Jays. The game-winning hit scored Ron LeFlore, who reached first on a single and moved to second on Phil Mankowski's sacrifice. John Mayberry homered for the Blue Jays.

Cubs 5, Pirates 1 at Chicago (day game):
Greg Gross had two run-scoring singles and Rick Reuschel went the distance for the first time this season as the Cubs decisioned the Pirates, 5-1. Gross' first hit came in the third inning and put the Cubs ahead, 1-0. After the Pirates tied the game on Ed Ott's RBI single in the top of the fifth, Gross' second hit in the bottom of inning scored Ivan DeJesus who had doubled. DeJesus' second double made it 3-1 in the seventh and Dave Rader singled home two more markers in the eighth.

Astros 4, Reds 3 at Houston (day game):
Jimmy Sexton led off the 13th inning with a walk, reached second on a stolen base and scored on Enos Cabell's two-out single as the Astros edged the Reds, 4-3. The Reds had tied the game in the ninth with a pair of runs, the tying counter coming when reliever Joe Sambito walked Pete Rose with the bases loaded. Red ace Tom Seaver failed to win for the third straight time.

Dodgers 8, Braves 0 at Los Angeles (day game):
Rick Rhoden scattered seven hits as the Dodgers blanked the Braves, 8-0. Rhoden was handed a two-run lead in the first inning on a single by Davey Lopes, a wild pitch, an error and singles by Reggie Smith and Ron Cey. The Dodgers added two more in the third on walks to Lopes and Smith, a passed ball, an intentional pass to Cey and single by Steve Garvey. Rhoden contributed an RBI single in a four-run eighth.

Expos 4, Mets 1 at Montreal (day game):
Dave Cash and Andre Dawson cracked home runs and Ross Grimsley tossed a four-hitter as the Expos defeated the Mets, 4-1. Cash's homer was his first since July 23, 1976, and came in the first inning. Dawson's blast came in the fourth frame.

Giants 8, Padres 4 at San Diego (day game):
Willie McCovey hit his second homer of the season and 495th of his career to spark the Giants to an 8-4 decision over the Padres. The round-tripper came in the first inning and scored Larry Herndon and Bill Madlock, who were aboard on singles. The Giants sealed the verdict in the eighth with pinch-hitter Mike Ivie's two-run double the big blow.

Cardinals 5, Phillies 0 at St. Louis (day game):
Bob Forsch captured his third straight victory of the season, hurling a no-hitter as the Cardinals topped the Phillies, 5-0. It was first the no-hitter by a Cardinal pitcher at home since 1924. The Redbirds got a run in the fourth when Ken Reitz singled home Garry Templeton, who had doubled. Roger Freed's pinch-hit, bases-loaded double plated three more tallies, all unearned, in the sixth.
