Today's scores and summaries:

Red Sox 7, Brewers 6 at Boston (day game):
The streaking Red Sox extended their winning skein to six games with a come-from-behind 7-6 victory over the Brewers. Homers by Larry Hisle and Sal Bando were key blows as the Brewers built a 6-2 bulge. But the Red Sox scored three runs in the sixth inning and won in the ninth. The decisive rally began when Butch Hobson singled, took second on a sacrifice and scored on Jack Brohamer's fourth hit of the game. Frank Duffy ran for Brohamer and counted the winning run when Carlton Fisk doubled off the left field wall. Luis Tiant, who suffered a dislocated finger on his pitching hand during spring training, made his first appearance of the season and struck out four batters while hurling three hitless innings in relief.

Yankees 4, Orioles 3 at New York (day game):
With the crowd cheering him on with cries of "Reggie, Reggie, Reggie," Jackson drilled a home run deep into the right field stands to lead off the ninth inning and enable the Yankees to edge the Orioles, 4-3. The game had been tied since the seventh when Yankee reliever Sparky Lyle replaced starter Ron Guidry and walked Gary Roenicke with the bases loaded. Earlier in the contest, Jackson set up a Yankee run with a stolen base following a walk.

Mariners 6, Angels 1 at Seattle (night game):
Although held to only four hits, the Mariners took advantage of Nolan Ryan's wildness to achieve a 6-1 triumph over the Angels. The fireballing righthander gave up six walks and uncorked three wild pitches. His first wild pitch followed a pair of walks and an error and gave the Mariners their first run of the game. Walks to Bruce Bochte and Ruppert Jones preceded RBI singles by Bill Stein and Dan Meyer in the fourth. Stein scored as the lead runner in a double steal. Two walks, two wild pitches and Bochte's sacrifice fly produced the final Mariner tally in the seventh. Paul Mitchell, pitching for the Mariners, did not issue a pass. The Angels' run came in the seventh on Rance Mulliniks' triple and an infield out.

Royals 5, Blue Jays 0 at Toronto (day game):
The Royals made it eight straight wins as Amos Otis swatted a grand-slam homer in the first inning to trigger a 5-0 whitewash of the Blue Jays. Paul Splittorff tossed a five-hitter, struck out four and walked none to gain his third victory of the campaign. Willie Wilson and Hal McRae opened the game with back-to-back singles and executed a double steal. With two out, Darrell Porter received an intentional walk to load the bases and Otis then belted a 2-2 pitch into the left-center seats.

Cubs 2, Expos 1 at Chicago (day game):
Bunching four of their eight hits in the second inning, the Cubs scored two runs and prevailed over the Expos, 2-1, behind the steady pitching of Ray Burris and Bruce Sutter. In the decisive frame, Bobby Murcer, Dave Kingman and Steve Ontiveros stroked successive singles to load the bases. Murcer scored as Manny Trillo bounced into a double play and Dave Rader then singled to plate Kingman. The Expos' tally came in the first inning on doubles by Warren Cromartie and Gary Carter.

Reds 11, Dodgers 3 at Los Angeles (night game):
The Reds broke out their heavy artillery and shelled the Dodgers, 11-3. Ken Griffey hit a three-run homer in the third and George Foster followed one out later with a solo swat. After Griffey singled in the fifth, Joe Morgan smashed one over the wall. Johnny Bench blasted his fourth round-tripper of the season with the bases empty in the ninth.

Astros 5, Padres 1 at San Diego (night game):
The Astros handed the Padres their third straight loss, 5-1, as Joe Niekro spaced four hits, drove in a pair of runs and scored two others. The first two Astros' runs were unearned. Joe Ferguson singled in the second inning and moved to second when left fielder Oscar Gamble booted the ball. After taking third on a single by Art Howe, Ferguson scored on Niekro's squeeze bunt. Niekro reached first on the play and came around on a walk to Terry Puhl and single by Enos Cabell. Howe doubled in the eighth and scored on Niekro's single. Niekro was driven home by Cesar Cedeno's single.

Braves 1, Giants 0 at San Francisco (night game):
The Braves snapped their four-game losing streak with a 1-0 triumph over the Giants as Preston Hanna and Adrian Devine combined for a one-hitter. The lone Giant hit was a single by Johnnie LeMaster in the third inning. But LeMaster's throwing error paved the way for the game's only run when the Giants' shortstop threw away Jerry Royster's roller in the fourth inning. Royster stole second, went to third on a long fly to center and scored on a double by Jeff Burroughs.

Mets 3, Cardinals 2 at St. Louis (night game):
A pinch-double by Bobby Valentine, his first hit of the season, drove in two runs to give the Mets a 3-2 decision over the Cardinals and provide rookie righthander Mike Bruhert with his first major league victory. Valentine's blow was preceded by a double by Willie Montanez, walk to Lee Mazzilli and an intentional walk to pinch-hitter Ed Kranepool after the count reached 3-0. The Mets' other run came in the fifth and was aided when right fielder Jim Dwyer misplayed Mazzilli's fly ball into a two-base hit.
