Today's scores and summaries:

A's 6, Twins 5 at Minnesota (day game):
A two-out single by Tony Armas in the 11th inning was the deciding blow as the A's triumphed over the Twins, 6-5. The winning rally began when Gary Alexander drew a leadoff walk. Mike Adams ran for Alexander and advanced to second on Jim Essian's single after Dave Revering struck out. One out later, Armas knocked in the winning run. The Twins had tied the game in the bottom of the ninth on Hosken Powell's single, an error by shortstop Mario Guerrero on Willie Norwood's grounder, a sacrifice bunt and pinch-hitter Rich Chiles' single.

Angels 11, Mariners 2 at Seattle (night game):
The Angels thumped five pitchers for 12 hits in an 11-2 rout of the Mariners. Ron Jackson drove in six runs with two doubles and a single and Lyman Bostock, who had offered to play without pay until his slump ended, returned to the lineup after a one-game absence and banged out three hits.

Blue Jays 4, Yankees 3 at Toronto (day game):
Yankees' high-priced pitching acquisition Rich Gossage continued to flop as the loser of a 4-3 decision to the Blue Jays. John Mayberry led off the ninth inning with a single and Garth Iorg ran for him. Rick Cerone attempted a sacrifice bunt but Gossage's throw to second went into the dirt, leaving runners on first and second. When Dave McKay followed with another bunt, Gossage threw the ball over first baseman Chris Chambliss' head as Iorg raced home with the winning tally. It was Gossage's third straight defeat without a victory. Rick Bosetti handled nine chances flawlessly in center field for the Jays, setting a club record.

Expos 8, Cubs 6 at Chicago (day game):
Singles by Ellis Valentine and Larry Parrish combined with two errors to give the Expos four unearned runs in the ninth inning and an 8-6 decision over the Cubs. With one out, Dave Cash walked and when third baseman Steve Ontiveros threw away a grounder by Andre Dawson, Cash reached third and Dawson second. Gary Carter drew an intentional walk and Tony Perez grounded to pitcher Bruce Sutter, who threw Cash out at the plate. But Valentine singled in two runs and when left fielder Gene Clines bobbled the ball, Perez reached third and Valentine second. Parrish then hit a single to score both runners.

Dodgers 5, Reds 4 at Los Angeles (night game):
Power hitting enabled the Dodgers to salvage a 5-4 victory in the finale of their three-game series with the Reds. After Reggie Smith hit a bases-empty homer in the first inning, Rick Monday blasted a three-run round-tripper in the second and completed the Dodgers' scoring with a solo shot in the sixth.

Astros 2, Padres 1 at San Diego (night game):
Timely hitting and tight pitching enabled the Astros to edge the Padres, 2-1. Winning hurler Joaquin Andujar drove in the Astros' first run with a second-inning single to plate Roger Metzger, who had tripled. Metzger drove in the other tally in the fourth frame with a sacrifice fly to score Art Howe, who had doubled and moved to third on an infield out. The Padres' lone run came on Dave Winfield's homer with two out in the eighth.

Braves 2, Giants 0 at San Francisco (day game):
The Braves zeroed the Giants for the second straight day, posting a 2-0 triumph behind the two-hit pitching of Dick Ruthven. The Braves' righthander had a no-hitter until the seventh inning when Larry Herndon beat out a bouncer to shortstop. Jack Clark's single in the eighth was the Giants' other safe blow. The Braves scored in the fourth when consecutive singles by Brian Asselstine, Jeff Burroughs and Biff Pocoroba filled the bases and Dale Murphy followed with a sacrifice fly. In the seventh, Murphy doubled, moved to third on an infield out and scored on Pat Rockett's fly to left.

Mets 2, Cardinals 0 at St. Louis (day game):
The Mets completed a three-game sweep of the Cardinals, 2-0, as Pat Zachry hurled a two-hitter. The Mets, also held to two hits by Mark Littell and Pete Vuckovich, got a run in the first on Lenny Randle's single, a stolen base, sacrifice bunt and Bruce Boisclair's sacrifice fly. Zachry and Randle walked in the third and after a wild pitch moved Zachry to third, Boisclair singled him home. The Cards' hits were second-inning singles by Keith Hernandez and Jerry Morales.
