Today's scores and summaries:

Angels 5, Blue Jays 4 at California (night game):
Ron Fairly, who had no RBIs to his credit going into the game, drove in three runs with a homer and single to pace the Angels to a 5-4 victory over the Blue Jays. Rick Miller was aboard with a single when Fairly homered in the first inning. The veteran first baseman then batted in the Angels' deciding run in the fourth, hitting a single to drive in Lyman Bostock, who had tripled.

Orioles 6, White Sox 4 at Chicago (night game):
Exploding in the eighth inning, the Orioles scored five runs on a homer by Al Bumbry and grand slam by Eddie Murray to end their five-game losing streak with a 6-4 victory over the White Sox. After Bumbry's homer, White Sox starter Steve Stone walked Larry Harlow with two out before giving way on the mound to Pablo Torrealba. Carlos Lopez was safe on an error by Greg Pryor. Lerrin LaGrow replaced Torrealba and passed Lee May to load the bases, setting the stage for Murray's jackpot wallop. Ron Blomberg hit a two-run, pinch-homer for the White Sox in the ninth.

Royals 7, Brewers 6 at Kansas City (night game):
After trailing, 5-0, the Royals rallied to defeat the Brewers, 7-6, and snap a three-game losing streak. The Royals cut their deficit to one run before Cecil Cooper homered in the eighth inning to put the Brewers ahead, 6-4. In the Royals' half, Amos Otis, John Wathan, Freddie Patek and Frank White hit consecutive singles to tie the score and Pete LaCock followed with a sacrifice fly to drive in the winning run.

Yankees 3, Twins 1 at Minnesota (night game):
Ed Figueroa allowed only five hits and at one stretch retired 15 straight batters while pitching the Yankees to a 3-1 victory over the Twins. The Yankees bunched four singles for two runs in the second inning and added their insurance counter in the fifth on singles by Bucky Dent and Mickey Rivers around a wild pickoff throw by Paul Thormodsgard.

Indians 6, A's 2 at Oakland (night game):
Batting around, the Indians scored four runs in the eighth inning on five singles, a walk and an error to defeat the A's, 6-2. Willie Horton, who rapped a single during the outburst, also had a double and homer in the game. The loss went to John Henry Johnson, his first of the season, after two shutout victories, one a complete game. The A's managed only three hits, all off Don Hood, who pitched the first seven innings for the Indians. Mike Paxton finished.

Tigers 5, Mariners 4 at Seattle (night game):
Doubles by Charlie Spikes, Steve Kemp and Milt May drove in all of the Tigers' runs in a 5-4 victory over the Mariners. In the second inning, Kemp walked and scored on Spikes' two-bagger. A double by Kemp in the fifth drove in Aurelio Rodriguez and Rusty Staub, who were on base with singles. Then, in the seventh, Staub singled, Kemp walked and both crossed the plate on May's double.

Rangers 5, Red Sox 4 at Texas (night game):
Richie Zisk hit a two-run single in the fifth inning and then homered with a man on base in the 11th to beat the Red Sox, 5-4, and bring the Rangers their fourth straight victory. The Red Sox scored in the top half of 11th when Carlton Fisk, who had singled, raced home from first base on an error by Bump Wills, who threw wildly attempting to start a double play on a grounder by Fred Lynn. In the Rangers' half, Al Oliver singled and Zisk gave the Rangers their come-from-behind triumph with his homer.

Cubs 4, Braves 3 at Atlanta (night game):
Hector Cruz hit two homers to keep the Cubs in the game and Larry Biittner then delivered a pinch-single in the 10th inning to drive in the run that beat the Braves, 4-3. With one out in the overtime stanza, Bill Buckner singled and went to second on an infield out by Steve Ontiveros. After an intentional pass to Manny Trillo, Mick Kelleher came in to run for Buckner and scored on Biittner's hit.

Expos 6, Astros 3 at Houston (night game):
The first pitcher in Expos' history to win four games in the month of April, Ross Grimsley achieved that feat by beating the Astros, 6-3. Tony Perez drove in two of the Expos' runs with a double and two others scored on consecutive balks called on Astro reliever Tom Dixon by first base umpire Joe West. Wilbur Howard hit a triple and homer to produce two of the Astros' tallies.

Reds 5, Mets 1 at New York (night game):
George Foster and Dave Concepcion smashed homers and Fred Norman and Manny Sarmiento combined on a three-hitter as the Reds defeated the Mets, 5-1. Pete Rose, who batted safely in his ninth straight game, had two hits for the Reds, boosting his career total to 2,991.

Phillies 3, Padres 2 at Philadelphia (night game):
A three-run homer by Jerry Martin carried the Phillies to a 3-2 victory over the Padres, whose runs came on consecutive round-trippers by Dave Winfield and George Hendrick in the sixth inning. Martin followed with his blow in the Phillies' half after singles by Davey Johnson and pinch-hitter Barry Foote. The victory proved costly for the Phillies, who lost the services of Ted Sizemore for five weeks when the second baseman fractured two bones in his left hand.

Giants 5, Pirates 4 at Pittsburgh (night game):
For the second time in two games, Willie McCovey batted in three runs with a bases-loaded double as the Giants defeated the Pirates, 5-4. The Giants' first two runs came on homers by Bill Madlock and Jack Clark. Dave Parker batted in three runs for the Pirates with a homer and single. In the Giants' ninth inning, John Candelaria lost control and walked Madlock, Darrell Evans and Clark to load the bases. McCovey then smashed his double to bring John Montefusco his first victory of the season. McCovey also had doubled home three runs in the previous night's game and had four RBIs when the Giants defeated the Braves, 5-3.

Dodgers 7, Cardinals 1 at St. Louis (night game):
Continuing a string of strong pitching by the Dodgers, Rick Rhoden turned in the fifth straight complete-game victory to the credit of the L. A. staff, beating the Cardinals, 7-1. Dusty Baker knocked in three runs with a double and homer in the Dodgers' attack on Bob Forsch, who was beaten for the second straight time since pitching a no-hitter against the Phillies April 16.
