Today's scores and summaries:

Brewers 6, White Sox 1 at Chicago (night game):
The Brewers started Andy Replogle for only the second time this season and the rookie righthander responded with his first complete game, defeating the White Sox, 6-1. Jim Gantner and Ben Oglivie each hit a two-run homer. In his first start, Replogle pitched 5 2/3 innings April 16 and received credit for a 9-2 victory over the Orioles.

Indians 2, Angels 1 at Cleveland (day game):
Making up for his error, Andre Thornton batted in two runs with a two-out single in the sixth inning to give the Indians a 2-1 victory over the Angels. Carney Lansford singled in the fifth and scored the Angels' run on a wild pitch and Thornton's boot of a ground ball by Rick Miller. Starting the Indians' comeback in the sixth, Ron Hassey singled and Rick Manning beat out a bunt. Jim Norris forced Hassey. After Buddy Bell flied out, Manning taking third after the catch, Norris stole second. Thornton then became the hero instead of the goat with his single.

A's 3, Tigers 2 at Detroit (day game):
After a seven-inning bid to become the first Tiger pitcher to throw a no-hitter since 1958, Dave Rozema was struck by disaster and lost to the A's, 3-2. The young rlghthander faced only 21 batters in his no-hit string. Jim Essian, the A's lone base-runner in that stretch, drew a walk in the sixth and was erased on a double play. Mario Guerrero wrecked Rozema's bid with a bad-hop single off the shoulder of third baseman Phil Mankowski to open the eighth. Dave Revering then teed off on Rozema for a homer to tie the score at 2-2. Unsettled, Rozema issued two walks and, after a sacrifice, passed Gary Thomasson intentionally to load the bases. Dwayne Murphy followed with a sacrifice fly to drive in the A's deciding run.

Yankees 5, Royals 2 at Kansas City (night game):
Reggie Jackson homered with a man on base and batted in another run with a sacrifice fly to account for the Yankees' margin in a 5-2 victory over the Royals.

Red Sox 4, Twins 2 at Minnesota (day game):
Mike Torrez brought his record to 5-1 and the Red Sox gained their ninth victory in the last 10 games by defeating the Twins, 4-2. Torrez was lifted after yielding a single by Rod Carew to open the ninth inning. Tom Burgmeier hit Dan Ford with a pitch but then retired the side to save the game. The Red Sox scored twice in the second on a single by Butch Hobson and pass to Rick Burleson with the bases loaded. Fred Lynn provided the decisive marker with a 420-foot homer over the center field wall in the fourth. Carew knocked in one of the Twins' runs with a double and Mike Cubbage accounted for the other tally with a homer.

Orioles 5, Rangers 1 at Texas (night game):
The four-hit pitching of Scott McGregor and the slugging of Lee May, who knocked in four runs with two homers and a single, provided the Orioles with a 5-1 victory over the Rangers. Rich Dauer also homered for the Orioles. The Rangers' lone run off McGregor, who hurled the route for the first time this season, came in the eighth inning on a single by Toby Harrah and double by Bump Wills.

Mariners 9, Blue Jays 6 at Toronto (day game):
Lasting only one-third of an inning, Dave Lemanczyk drew his seventh straight defeat when the Mariners beat the Blue Jays, 9-6. Lemanczyk gave up three hits and three walks and was charged with three runs. The Blue Jays never caught up. The Mariners got a pinch-homer from Leon Roberts in the fourth and iced the decision with three runs in the fifth. Bill Stein batted in one run with a triple and two others were forced across the plate on four straight walks. Rico Carty homered for the Blue Jays.

Dodgers 5, Cubs 2 at Los Angeles (night game):
Capitalizing on the wildness of Woodie Fryman, who walked seven batters in four innings, the Dodgers turned three passes into runs and defeated the Cubs, 5-2. In the second, after Lee Lacy doubled, Fryman walked Steve Yeager and Davey Lopes to load the bases. Bill Russell doubled to drive in two runs and Reggie Smith followed with a sacrifice fly for the third counter. A pass to Smith and double by Ron Cey added a run off Fryman in the fourth. Dave Kingman homered with a man on base for the Cubs in the ninth to chase Tommy John, but Terry Forster relieved and struck out the next three batters.

Expos 3, Braves 0 at Montreal (day game):
Allowing only three hits, Steve Rogers pitched the Expos to a 3-0 victory over the Braves. The Expos beat Phil Niekro, scoring twice off the veteran righthander in the third inning. Andre Dawson was hit by a pitch, Gary Carter walked and runs followed on singles by Tony Perez and Ellis Valentine. Carter homered off reliever Dave Campbell in the eighth. Although defeated, Niekro passed a personal milestone, striking out six to go over 2,000 for his career total.

Astros 7, Mets 4 at New York (day game):
Joe Sambito allowed only one hit in four innings of relief and saved the victory for Joe Niekro as the Astros defeated the Mets, 7-4. Niekro was tagged for 10 hits before being lifted after Joel Youngblood doubled and scored on a single by Doug Flynn with none out in the sixth. Mike Bruhert, who started for the Mets, also gave up 10 hits, but in only three innings of work, and was the victim of all seven of the Astros' runs. Enos Cabell accounted for three RBIs with a single and double.

Reds 4, Phillies 3 at Philadelphia (night game):
A wild throw by rookie second baseman Jim Morrison in the ninth inning allowed the Reds to score the winning run in a 4-3 victory over the Phillies. After Mike Schmidt hit a three-run homer in the eighth to put the Phillies ahead, 3-2, Ken Griffey led off the Reds' ninth with a double and both Ray Knight and Pete Rose walked to load the bases. Joe Morgan then forced Rose, Griffey scoring, and when Morrison uncorked his wild throw, trying for a double play, pinch-runner Dave Collins also crossed the plate.

Padres 6, Pirates 5 at San Diego (night game):
Ozzie Smith tripled with the bases loaded and Dave Winfield followed with the winning single as the Padres rallied for four runs in the seventh inning to defeat the Pirates, 6-5. Rennie Stennett drove in two runs to pace the Pirates to a 5-2 lead before the Padres started their comeback in the seventh when Bob Davis singled, Gene Tenace was hit by a pitch and Gene Richards singled to load the bases and chase Jerry Reuss. Bruce Kison, in relief, was greeted by Smith's triple and then was tagged with the defeat when Winfield hit a high-hopping infield single.

Giants 7, Cardinals 6 at San Francisco (day game):
Mike Ivie, who entered the game after Willie McCovey was hurt in the second inning, drove in three runs with a sacrifice fly and a double to pace the Giants to a 7-6 victory over the Cardinals. McCovey suffered a cut upper lip and two chipped teeth in a collision with Bill Madlock when both were going after a pop fly by Jerry Morales. With the score tied, 4-4, Madlock singled in the seventh and stole second. The Cards passed Darrell Evans intentionally to get at Ivie, who wrecked the move with his double, driving in Madlock and Evans. Jack Clark followed with a triple to add what proved to be the Giants' winning run.
