Today's scores and summaries:

Brewers 5, White Sox 4 at Chicago (day game):
A two-run pinch-double by Don Money boosted the Brewers to a 5-4 decision over the White Sox. The Brewers trailed, 4-3, with two out and nobody on base in the seventh inning when Gorman Thomas and Jim Gantner stroked singles. Money, batting for Buck Martinez, then lashed a 3-2 pitch into left-center for two runs. The White Sox had gone ahead in the fifth on a single by Bill Nahorodny, a wild pitch and a double by Don Kessinger.

Angels 4, Indians 3 at Cleveland (day game):
The Angels survived a ninth-inning rally to ease past the Indians, 4-3. Angel ace Frank Tanana had a 4-0 lead going into the ninth, but was removed after two were out. Ted Cox began the rally with a leadoff single and was forced at second. Singles by Ron Pruitt and Paul Dade produced one run and after Tanana retired the next batter, Paul Hartzell relieved. Pinch-hitter Jim Norris and Willie Horton greeted the change with run-scoring singles before Hartzell retired Mike Vail to end the game.

Tigers 15, A's 0 at Detroit (day game):
Rookie Bob Sykes tossed his second straight four-hit shutout against the A's as the Tigers pounded their way to a 15-0 victory behind a 20-hit barrage. Rusty Staub had three hits, including a homer, and Jason Thompson also stroked a round-tripper. Lou Whitaker and Ron LeFlore each drove in three runs. A's starter Pete Broberg was shelled for four runs and six hits and retired only five batters before leaving. The Tigers rocked reliever Dave Heaverlo for seven runs in the eighth inning.

Royals 10, Yankees 9 at Kansas City (day game):
A two-base hit by Amos Otis in the last of the ninth drove in the winning run as the Royals subdued the Yankees, 10-9, in a see-saw struggle. Clint Hurdle opened the inning with a double into the left field corner and Darrell Porter received an intentional pass before Otis delivered the game-winning blow. The Royals overcame an early 6-3 Yankee lead and carried a 9-7 margin into the eighth before the Yankees tied the contest on a two-out, two-run double by Lou Piniella, who extended his hitting streak to 11 games. Al Hrabosky got credit for his first A.L. victory.

Red Sox 6, Twins 2 at Minnesota (day game):
The Red Sox posted their 10th victory in the last 11 games, defeating the Twins, 6-2. A three-run homer by Fred Lynn in the fifth inning was the big blow. His circuit clout came on the first pitch by reliever Mac Scarce after the Red Sox chased Twins' starter Paul Thormodsgard on a bunt single by Jerry Remy, base hit by Carl Yastrzemski and RBI double by Carlton Fisk. The Bosox added a run in the ninth on back-to-back doubles by Jim Rice and Yastrzemski. Fisk hit a solo homer in the second inning.

Orioles 3, Rangers 2 at Texas (night game):
A two-run homer by Lee May with one out in the top of the ninth gave the Orioles a 3-2 decision over the Rangers. May drilled the ball into the left field seats after Ken Singleton singled and Eddie Murray hit into a forceout. The other Oriole run came in the seventh when Singleton walked, went to third on Murray's double and scored on a two-out single by Pat Kelly. Oriole reliever Don Stanhouse entered the game in the bottom of the ninth with runners on second and third and nobody out and worked out of the jam to preserve the victory and earn his sixth save.

Cubs 10, Dodgers 7 at Los Angeles (day game):
Dave Kingman blasted three home runs, plus a single, and drove in eight runs as the Cubs outlasted the Dodgers, 10-7, in 15 innings. His first homer came in the sixth and was good for two runs. The second round-tripper, also a two-run blow, tied the score for the Cubs in the ninth after the Dodgers had taken a 7-5 lead on a two-run single by Reggie Smith. The third circuit clout was preceded by one-out walks to Mick Kelleher and Steve Ontiveros and a forceout. The game-winning shot came off Rick Rhoden, who was making his first relief appearance of the season. Kingman also hit three homers in a game at Dodger Stadium on June 4, 1976, when he was with the Mets.

Braves 2, Expos 1 at Montreal (day game):
A double by Rod Gilbreath in the seventh inning lifted the Braves to a 2-1 triumph over the Expos. With the score tied, 1-1, Cito Gaston led off the Braves' seventh with a single and Rowland Office, inserted as a pinch-runner, advanced to second on a sacrifice by Biff Pocoroba. Gilbreath followed with a double down the left field line to score Office. Brian Asselstine hit a solo homer to give the Braves a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but the Expos tied the score in the bottom of the frame when Warren Cromartie walked, went to third on a single by Dave Cash and scored on Gary Carter's sacrifice fly.

Phillies 7, Reds 4 at Philadelphia (day game):
Using the long ball to their advantage, the Phillies thumped the Reds, 7-4. Mike Schmidt hit a leadoff homer in the sixth inning. Greg Luzinski followed with a double and Richie Hebner then belted a round-tripper. After George Foster's RBI single had given the Reds a 1-0 lead in the first, the Phils rebounded for three runs when Bud Harrelson and Jay Johnstone doubled, Luzinski walked, Hebner singled, Bob Boone grounded out and Jerry Martin reached first on a fielder's choice. Luzinski hit a solo homer in the seventh before the Reds picked up three runs in the eighth. Foster batted in two with a triple and scored on a groundout by Johnny Bench.

Pirates 1, Padres 0 at San Diego (day game):
An unearned run accounted for the only tally of the game as the Pirates edged the Padres, 1-0, in a duel between rookie righthander Don Robinson and Randy Jones. Frank Taveras drew a walk to open the Pirates' sixth. Omar Moreno then hit a grounder to first baseman Gene Richards, whose throw to second for an attempted forceout hit Taveras in the back for an error. Taveras reached third on the play and scored when Dave Parker hit a slow roller to short.

[DH] Giants 5, Cardinals 4 (day game) / Giants 4, Cardinals 3 at San Francisco (day game):
Coming from behind in both games, the Giants took a doubleheader from the Cardinals, winning the opener, 5-4, in 12 innings and taking the nightcap, 4-3, in 10 innings to complete the sweep of the four-game series. Terry Whitfield cracked a solo homer with two out in the 12th to produce the winning run in the first game. The Giants trailed, 4-2, in the eighth but tied the contest on a single by Vic Harris -- his first hit of the season -- a balk, base on balls, sacrifice fly by Jack Clark and singles by Darrell Evans and Mike Ivie. In the second game, Whitfield led off the bottom of the 10th with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice and scored on Marc Hill's pinch-hit single. The Giants were behind, 3-1, in the seventh and tied the game on singles by Whitfield and Mike Sadek, an infield out by Bill Madlock and single by Clark.
