Today's scores and summaries:

White Sox 9, Angels 6 at Chicago (night game):
The White Sox took advantage of Nolan Ryan's wildness to snap their four-game losing streak, downing the Angels, 9-6. A triple by Ralph Garr followed by a single by Don Kessinger gave the Sox a run in the first inning and they added another in the second on a single by Bob Molinaro, walks to Eric Soderholm and Bill Nahorodny and Garr's infield groundout. Nahorodny and Jorge Orta hit two-run homers during a five-run eighth inning. The Angels scored five in the ninth, the key blows being a two-run single by Carney Lansford and two-run triple by Ike Hampton.

Indians 5, Yankees 4 at Cleveland (night game):
Reliever Sid Monge hurled one-hit ball for 6 2/3 innings, enabling the Indians to come from behind and beat the Yankees, 5-4, in 10 innings. Rick Manning was the offensive star for the Tribe, driving in a pair of runs with a single in the fourth frame, scoring the tying run in the seventh and driving home the winning tally in the 10th. With two out in the overtime frame, Paul Dade slapped a triple to the right field fence and Manning followed with a single to right.

Tigers 5, Brewers 3 at Milwaukee (night game):
Jason Thompson belted a two-run homer and Ron LeFlore collected four hits including a solo round-tripper, to power the Tigers to their fourth consecutive victory, 5-3, over the Brewers. LeFlore hit his circuit clout in the third inning. Thompson's blast came with two out in the seventh after LeFlore had doubled. Lance Parrish gave the Tigers insurance with a solo homer in the eighth. Winner Jack Billingham yielded solo homers to Sixto Lezcano in the second and to Gorman Thomas in the fifth, bringing the Brewers' major league-leading total to 45.

Rangers 4, A's 3 at Texas (night game):
Jim Sundberg's third hit of the game, a single in the eighth inning, drove in Al Oliver and gave the Rangers a 4-3 triumph over the A's. Oliver doubled with one out and after Richie Zisk was intentionally walked, Elias Sosa relieved John Henry Johnson on the mound forthe A's. Sundberg then smacked Sosa's first pitch for a hit to score Oliver. Sundberg stretched his hitting streak to 16 games, longest in the A.L. this year. The Rangers scored three times in the first on a double by Bert Campaneris, single by Oliver, walk to Zisk, single by Sundberg and sacrifice fly by Juan Beniquez. A single by Mitchell Page and triple by Mario Guerrero scored a run for the A's in the first and a two-run homer by Wayne Gross tied the game in the second.

Astros 2, Phillies 1 at Houston (night game):
A throwing error by catcher Bob Boone gave the Astros two runs and that was all they needed to subdue the Phillies, 2-1. The error came after the Astros loaded the bases with one out in the third inning on a walk to Joe Ferguson, double by Roger Metzger and walk to Terry Puhl. Enos Cabell then grounded to third and Mike Schmidt threw home to force Ferguson. But Boone's relay to first in an attempt for a double play went into right field and two runs scored. A double by Richie Hebner drove in the Phillies' run in the fourth. Joaquin Andujar allowed the Phils two hits in five innings but left the game with a rib cage tear after throwing one pitch in the sixth. Tom Dixon earned the save with four scoreless innings of relief. The victory was the fifth straight for the Astros, while the Phillies took their fifth loss in last the six games.

Dodgers 10, Pirates 1 at Los Angeles (night game):
Tommy John doubled home two runs in his own behalf to highlight a five-run, fourth-inning outburst and Davey Lopes and Ron Cey added two-run homers in leading the Dodgers to a 10-1 rout of the Pirates. John and Steve Yeager each drove in a pair of runs in the fourth frame when the Dodgers sent 10 men to the plate. Lopes hit a two-run homer in the third and Cey added a two-run shot in the seventh. Lee Lacy also homered for the Dodgers in the eighth as a pinch-hitter for Lopes.

A wild pitch lifted the Expos to a 5-4 triumph over the Reds. With the score tied, 4-4, Dave Cash led off the bottom of the 11th inning for the Expos with a single and went to second when center fielder George Foster bobbled the ball. After Andre Dawson received an intentional walk, Gary Carter attempted a sacrifice bunt but forced Cash at third. Ellis Valentine then hit into a forceout of Carter at second with Dawson moving to third. With Tony Perez at bat, Red reliever Dale Murray uncorked a wild pitch which brought Dawson home with the winning run. A two-run homer by Johnny Bench capped a four-run first-inning explosion by the Reds, but the Expos tied the contest with four in the seventh, three coming in on a homer by Warren Cromartie.
