Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 2, Indians 1 at Cleveland (day game):
While rumors swirled that Jim Palmer might be traded, the Orioles' ace yielded only four hits in 7 1/3 innings and beat the Indians, 2-1, for his first victory since April 29. The Orioles scored both their runs off Rick Wise in the second on a double by Eddie Murray and singles by Lee May, Rick Dempsey and Rich Dauer. The Indians' run off Palmer in the seventh was unearned. Palmer was removed after walking Jim Norris with one out in the eighth and Don Stanhouse finished, picking up his seventh save.

Red Sox 6, Tigers 5 at Detroit (day game):
Bill Campbell, who had been out of action with a sore elbow, made his first appearance with the Red Sox since April 30, pitched three scoreless innings and gained credit for a 6-5 victory over the Tigers. Jim Rice hit his 13th homer of the season and 100th of his career for the Red Sox. Dwight Evans also rapped a round-tripper for the Red Sox, while the Tigers had two-run blows by Phil Mankowski and Milt May. The Red Sox put over the winning run in the ninth inning. Carl Yastrzemski singled and was bunted to second by Carlton Fisk. After an intentional pass to Fred Lynn, Butch Hobson decided the outcome with a single that drove in Yastrzemski.

Royals 6, Twins 3 at Kansas City (night game):
Hal McRae drove in two runs with a single and double and four other Royals rapped run-scoring singles to back the pitching of Rich Gale, who beat the Twins, 6-3, for the rookie's fourth straight victory. Rod Carew had two hits, including a homer with a man on base, in four trips for the Twins and raised his league-leading batting average to .397.

Brewers 6, Angels 4 at Milwaukee (night game):
Making his second start since off-season surgery, Bill Travers pitched six innings and picked up credit for the Brewers' 6-4 victory over the Angels. In his first start May 15, Travers was kayoed in the third inning and was charged with five runs in an 8-6 loss to the Rangers. The Brewers clinched the decision for Travers by erupting for five runs in the fifth inning. A pass to Dick Davis, single by Cecil Cooper and double by Gorman Thomas produced the first marker. After an intentional pass to Don Money, Buck Martinez hit a sacrifice fly. Paul Molitor and Robin Yount followed with RBI singles and the fifth run scored on a grounder by Sixto Lezcano.

A's 4, White Sox 3 at Oakland (day game):
Reliever Lerrin LaGrow's first pitch in the seventh inning and his first pitch in the ninth both wound up in homers that carried the A's to a 4-3 victory over the White Sox. Ken Kravec, who started for the White Sox, had a 3-0 lead before being removed in favor of LaGrow in the seventh after walking Wayne Gross and Dwayne Murphy. Jeff Newman then came up as a pinch-hitter and tagged LaGrow's first pitch for a game-tying homer. Gross led off the ninth and ended the game with a homer on the first pitch served up by LaGrow to start the inning.

Mariners 7, Rangers 3 at Seattle (night game):
A brief relief appearance by Shane Rawley resulted in the rookie lefthander receiving credit for his first major league victory when the Mariners defeated the Rangers, 7-3. Glenn Abbott, who started for the Mariners, was kayoed in the sixth when Bobby Bonds and Jim Sundberg homered to put the Rangers ahead, 3-2. Sundberg's blow extended his hitting streak to 20 games. After Rawley relieved and retired the last batter in the sixth, the Mariners came back in their half with a single by Leon Roberts and homer by Steve Braun to beat Fergie Jenkins. Rawley was removed with two outs in the seventh, after pitching what amounted to one inning, and Enrique Romo came in to save the game.

Blue Jays 10, Yankees 8 at Toronto (day game):
After seven straight losses, Dave Lemanczyk finally gained his first victory of the season when the Blue Jays erupted for 15 hits and defeated the Yankees, 10-8. After John Mayberry homered with a man on base in the fourth inning to tie the score at 4-4, the Blue Jays nailed down their decision with six runs in the sixth. Oddly, Ken Clay, pitching in relief of Jim Beattie, was the loser without yiedling a hit. With one out in the sixth, Clay walked Mayberry and was removed in favor of Sparky Lyle, who gave up an infield single by Tommy Hutton and hit Otto Velez with a pitch to load the bases. Rick Cerone grounded to Graig Nettles, who threw wildly to second in an attempted forceout, and both Mayberry and Hutton scored. A double by Dave McKay, singles by Luis Gomez and Rick Bosetti and a sacrifice fly by Bob Bailor each added one more run before the inning ended.

Cubs 10, Cardinals 2 at Chicago (day game):
Extending the Cardinals' skid to nine games, the Cubs pounded their way to a 10-2 victory with the aid of two-run homers by Dave Kingman and Dave Rader. Larry Biittner also contributed two runs with a pinch-double. The Cards' only scoring off four Cub pitchers came on homers by Mike Tyson and Jerry Morales.

Reds 10, Padres 6 at Cincinnati (day game):
Continuing to have his troubles in relief, Rollie Fingers was knocked out in the eighth inning when the Reds erupted for six runs to beat the Padres, 10-6. The loss was Fingers' sixth against one win. Dave Concepcion ignited the outburst with a triple. Fingers then walked three of the next five batters to force in one run, leaving the bases loaded, and George Foster cleared the sacks with a triple. Following Fingers' departure, the Reds added their last two tallies on a single by Dan Driessen, pass to Johnny Bench and single by Concepcion for his second hit of the inning.

Astros 13, Braves 0 at Houston (night game):
While J.R. Richard tossed a four-hit shutout, the Astros reached their season highs in hits and runs during a 13-0 romp over the Braves. Jose Cruz smashed four of the Astros' 17 hits, including a homer, and drove in six runs. Denny Walling also connected for the circuit as the Astros went above the .500 mark (18-17) for the first time this season. Rod Gilbreath had two of the Braves' four hits.

Dodgers 3, Giants 2 at Los Angeles (night game):
The Giants' eight-game winning streak came to an end when Randy Moffitt, relieving with the bases loaded in the ninth inning, hit Bill Russell with his first pitch to force in the run that gave the Dodgers a 3-2 victory. Darrell Evans homered for the Giants and Steve Garvey for the Dodgers. Bill North opened the Dodgers' ninth with a double off Gary Lavelle. After an intentional pass to Steve Yeager, Manny Mota sacrificed. The Giants then also walked Lee Lacy to load the bases before Moffitt took the mound and uncorked the pitch that hit Russell.

Pirates 6, Expos 0 at Montreal (day game):
Willie Stargell drove in five runs with two homers and Bert Blyleven pitched a three-hitter as the Pirates defeated the Expos, 6-0. Stargell started his slugging in the first inning after a triple by Omar Moreno and pass to Dave Parker. His second homer of the game followed a single by John Milner in the fourth. Ed Ott then doubled and Blyleven put the capper on his victory with a single for the final run.

Phillies 9, Mets 4 at New York (day game):
The Phillies broke a tight game apart with five runs in the 11th inning and defeated the Mets, 9-4. Steve Carlton, who started for the Phils, was ripped for three runs by the Mets' first three batters of the game when Lenny Randle and Lee Mazzilli each doubled and Steve Henderson homered. The Phillies came back to take a 4-3 lead, but the Mets chased Carlton and tied the score in the seventh on a pass to Elliott Maddox, safe bunt by Randle and single by Mazzilli. Dale Murray, making his first appearance with the Mets since being obtained in a deal with the Reds, was on the mound in the 11th when the Phillies erupted. Bake McBride and Larry Bowa singled and, after one out, an intentional pass to Jerry Martin loaded the bases. Davey Johnson singled, driving in McBride and Bowa, and when Bruce Boisclair threw wildly to the plate, Martin also scored. Garry Maddox singled for another run and Bob Boone added the final tally with a sacrifice fly.
