Today's scores and summaries:

Tigers 4, Brewers 3 at Detroit (night game):
Superb relief pitching by John Hiller enabled the Tigers to preserve a 4-3 victory over the Brewers. With the Tigers ahead, 4-3, in the eighth inning, Hiller came on with runners on first and third and one out to strike out Cecil Cooper and get Sal Bando on a fly to left. Bando hit a two-run homer and the Brewers led, 3-1, going into the bottom of the fifth when the Tigers staged the winning rally. Singles by Phil Mankowski, Alan Trammell, Ron LeFlore and Lou Whitaker tied the score with one out before a fly to center by Rusty Staub gave the Tigers their third straight victory.

Royals 10, Mariners 0 at Kansas City (night game):
Pounding out 14 hits against four pitchers, the Royals posted their seventh straight victory, romping over the Mariners, 10-0. Dennis Leonard tossed a six-hitter for his first win since April 29. Singles by Amos Otis and Al Cowens plus an error by shortstop Craig Reynolds loaded the bases in the second inning before Darrell Porter cleared them with a double. Porter scored the fourth run of the inning on a single by Frank White. The Royals added a run in the third on a sacrifice fly by Joe Zdeb and four more in the sixth, highlighted by George Brett's two-run double. Brett also doubled home a run in the eighth.

Orioles 1, Yankees 0 at New York (night game):
Firing his third straight shutout and 49th of his career, Jim Palmer pitched the Orioles to a 1-0 triumph over the Yankees. The righthander yielded only two hits -- a single by Lou Piniella in the second inning and a single by Chris Chambliss in the seventh. The Orioles' run came in the fifth on an error by Yank catcher Cliff Johnson. Doug DeCinces walked and stopped at second on a single by Rick Dempsey. Mark Belanger, trying to bunt, hit into a double play, eliminating Dempsey as DeCinces took third. Larry Harlow walked and when he stole second, Johnson threw the ball into center field, allowing DeCinces to score.

Rangers 10, Twins 7 at Texas (night game):
A homer by Toby Harrah with two men on base capped a four-run rally in the seventh inning that lifted the Rangers over the Twins, 10-7. The Twins led, 7-6, going into the seventh when Bump Wills ignited a rally by drawing a walk from reliever Mike Marshall. A double by Richie Zisk plated Wills with the tying run. After Juan Beniquez walked, Harrah, hitting only .206 going into the game, unloaded his second homer of the season. The Rangers led, 8-1, early in the game, but the Twins tied it with five runs in the sixth, featuring a three-run homer by Dan Ford. The Twins then took a 7-6 lead in the seventh on back-to-back doubles by Butch Wynegar and Glenn Adams.
