Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 6, Angels 2 at California (night game):
A solo homer by Eddie Murray snapped a 2-2 tie in the 10th inning to trigger the Orioles to 6-2 victory over the Angels. After Murray's blast, the Orioles scored three more runs on a hit, hit batsman, three errors, a walk and a sacrifice fly. Jim Palmer had his scoreless inning streak broken at 30 and lost his bid for a fifth straight win on an unearned run with two out in the ninth. The Angels tied the game in the ninth off reliever Don Stanhouse on a pair of walks and two-out error by second baseman Billy Smith.

White Sox 2, Indians 0 at Cleveland (night game):
A three-hitter by Steve Stone enabled the White Sox to whitewash the Indians, 2-0. The Sox scored both their runs in the fourth inning when Chet Lemon got a leadoff single and Lamar Johnson reached first as Tom Veryzer booted his one-out grounder. Bill Nahorodny then doubled home both runners.

A's 9, Red Sox 7 at Oakland (night game):
A crowd of 36,463, the largest in two years in Oakland, saw the A's score eight runs in the first four innings and hold on for a 9-7 decision over the Red Sox. A single by Mitchell Page drove in two of the A's runs in the first frame and Dave Revering, with a double, and Wayne Gross, with a single, each added an RBI. The A's got four tallies in the fourth with a single by Gary Thomasson plating two of them. Jim Rice hit his 19th homer with a mate aboard in the seventh and had a chance to tie the game in the ninth when he came to bat after Jerry Remy beat out a bunt for a single. But the Bosox slugger struck out and Remy was caught stealing for a game-ending double play.

Mariners 7, Yankees 3 at Seattle (night game):
Pounding out 17 hits, the Mariners enjoyed a 7-3 romp over the Yankees, handing the Bronx Bombers their sixth defeat in the last seven games. A homer by Ruppert Jones gave the Mariners a 1-0 lead in the first and they collected three more runs in the second, scores coming on a fielder's choice grounder by Juan Bernhardt, single by Craig Reynolds and double by Jones. A homer by Leroy Stanton in the third made it 5-0. The Mariners added a run in the fourth on a throwing error by Ed Figueroa and scored another in the fifth on Bernhardt's RBI single.

Cubs 2, Astros 1 at Chicago (day game):
A single by Ivan DeJesus in the ninth inning drove in the winning run as the Cubs edged the Astros, 2-1. With the score tied, 1-1, in the bottom of ninth, Steve Ontiveros hit a leadoff single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Dave Rader. Joe Wallis received an intentional base on balls. Gene Clines then walked to load the bases. Pitcher Mark Lemongello charged plate umpire Dutch Rennert in protest of ball four and had to be restrained by his teammates. He was ejected from the game and replaced by Joe Sambito. DeJesus then delivered a looping single to right center. The Astros scored in the third frame on a double by Art Howe and RBI single by Terry Puhl. The Cubs evened the score in the fifth on a single by Manny Trillo, a sacrifice and single by Rader.

Expos 4, Padres 3 at Montreal (night game):
The Expos broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning and went on to top the Padres, 4-3. Andre Dawson was hit by a pitch to open the inning. He then stole second and scored on Dave Cash's sharp single to left. Ellis Valentine doubled home what proved to be the Expos' winning run in the eighth inning. Rudy May, getting relief help from Mike Garman, got credit for his sixth win. Garman came on with two on and none out in the ninth and yielded an RBI single to Dave Winfield before getting the final out.

Mets 9, Dodgers 8 at New York (night game):
An error by shortstop Bill Russell with two out in the ninth inning allowed the winning run to score as the Mets came from behind to hand the Dodgers their fifth consecutive loss, 9-8. The Mets, trailing by 8-6 going into the bottom of the ninth, began the winning rally when Willie Montanez smashed a one-out double. One out later, John Stearns walked and Tim Foli followed with a double just inside the third base line to tie the score. Doug Flynn then hit an apparent inning-ending grounder to Russell, who uncorked a wild throw to first allowing Foli to dash home with the decisive tally.

Phillies 4, Giants 3 at Philadelphia (night game):
Consecutive home runs by Jim Morrison and pinch-hitter Bob Boone in the eighth inning lifted the Phillies to a 4-3 triumph over the Giants. The Giants, on strength of solo homers by McCovey and Evans, took a 2-1 lead into the eighth but pinch-hitter Davey Johnson opened the Phillies' half with a single and Morrison followed with his round-tripper. Boone batted for winning pitcher Steve Carlton and also a smashed circuit clout. Jose Cardenal accounted for the Phillies' first run with a seventh-inning homer. Bud Harrelson saved the game for the Phils in the ninth with a diving backhanded grab of Vic Harris' smash and turned it into an out to prevent the tying run from scoring.

Braves 8, Pirates 4 at Pittsburgh (night game):
A grand-slam home run by Dale Murphy in the ninth inning gave the Braves an 8-4 decision over the Pirates. The circuit clout came after a single by Bob Beall, ground-rule double by Jeff Burroughs and intentional walk to Gary Matthews.

Reds 2, Cardinals 1 at St. Louis (night game):
Getting his fifth straight victory, Tom Seaver hurled the Reds past the Cardinals, 2-1. The score was 1-1 in the eighth when Joe Morgan drew a leadoff walk, stole second, was safe at third when Garry Templeton's throw was too late trying to cut down the lead runner and came home on a single by Dan Driessen. The first Red tally came in the fourth when Don Werner drew a bases-loaded walk. The Cards' only score resulted from an error by Driessen, who let a throw from Seaver bounce off his mitt.
