Today's scores and summaries:

White Sox 2, Twins 1 at Minnesota (night game):
The streaking White Sox posted their 11th victory in 12 games, beating the Twins, 2-1. The first White Sox run came in the seventh when Bill Nahorodny doubled home Henry Cruz, who had singled. The other tally came in the eighth when Eric Soderholm singled, went to third on a pair of wild pitches and scored on a double by Ralph Garr. Wilbur Wood pitched 7 2/3 innings and was relieved by Jim Willoughby in the eighth.

Angels 10, A's 7 at Oakland (night game):
Getting three runs on homers in each of the last two innings, the Angels came from behind to defeat the A's, 10-7. The A's led, 7-4, going into the eighth but the Angels tied the contest on a three-run homer by Ron Jackson. A single by Lyman Bostock and error by shortstop Mario Guerrero preceded the circuit clout. A three-run homer by Don Baylor in the ninth provided the Angels their winning margin. Elias Sosa served up Baylor's round-tripper and could have escaped unscathed but Guerrero mishandled a potential double-play ball.

[DH] Rangers 5, Royals 4 (night game) / Rangers 3, Royals 2 at Texas (night game):
After winning the first game, 5-4, the Rangers went 13 innings and defeated the Royals again, 3-2, to complete the sweep of a twi-night doubleheader. In the opener, the Rangers built up a 3-1 lead with the aid of triples by Juan Beniquez and Al Oliver before scoring twice more in the fifth on a single by Jim Sundberg, double by Richie Zisk, RBI infield single by Bobby Bonds and shortstop Freddie Patek's throwing error on Bonds' hit. Reggie Cleveland choked off the Royals' three-run rally in the eighth to preserve the victory for Doyle Alexander. In the nightcap, the score was 2-2 going into the bottom of the 13th when Wills opened by beating out an infield hit. After a steal of second by Wills, Mike Hargrove laid down a sacrifice bunt and reached first safely when reliever Al Hrabosky threw to third too late to get Wills. Oliver received an intentional pass to load the bases, but the runners couldn't advance on Bobby Thompson's fly to shallow center. Marty Pattin relieved Hrabosky and Bonds hit a fly ball to short right, scoring Wills, who narrowly beat Al Cowens' throw to the plate.

Cubs 10, Reds 1 at Chicago (day game):
Pounding out 14 hits against four pitchers, the Cubs enjoyed a 10-1 breeze over the Reds. Rick Reuschel retired the first 11 Reds before Joe Morgan singled in the ninth inning. The Reds' lone tally came in the eighth on bunt singles by Pete Rose and Ken Griffey and a single by Morgan. An error by Rose gave the Cubs their first run in the second inning and they scored another on an RBI single by Dave Rader. Bobby Murcer blasted a three-run homer in the seventh and Greg Gross had a two-run single in the eighth.

Expos 4, Dodgers 1 at Montreal (night game):
Steve Rogers allowed only one hit -- a solo homer by Reggie Smith in the first inning -- while pitching the Expos to a 4-1 victory over the Dodgers. The only other batter to reach base against Rogers was Steve Garvey, who was safe on an error in the eighth inning. The first Expos' run came in the fifth on a single by Larry Parrish, sacrifice by Rogers and single by Dave Cash. Andre Dawson then provided the winning blow in the sixth, clouting a homer after Tony Perez and Ellis Valentine had singled.

Cardinals 2, Braves 0 at St. Louis (day game):
Ken Reitz drove in both runs with a pair of singles as the Cardinals blanked the Braves, 2-0, behind the steady pitching of Pete Vuckovich and Mark Littell. Reitz gave the Cards a 1-0 lead with two outs in the sixth inning when he singled to score George Hendrick, who had opened the frame with a double. In the eighth, Hendrick was hit by a pitch, moved to third on a single by Jerry Morales and came home on a single by Reitz. Vuckovich went 7 2/3 innings before being relieved by Littell, who came on to strike out Jeff Burroughs with two men on.
