Today's scores and summaries:

Mariners 8, White Sox 6 at Chicago (night game):
Completing the three-game series sweep, the Mariners downed the White Sox, 8-6, in 10 innings. Bob Robertson and Bill Stein singled with one out in the 10th and Bob Stinson doubled to score Larry Milbourne, pinch-running for Robertson. Stein then tallied on an infield hit by Julio Cruz. After blowing an early 3-0 lead, the Mariners battled back twice to tie the score and sent the game into extra innings in the ninth when Craig Reynolds singled and scored on a double by Dan Meyer.

Yankees 4, Tigers 2 at Detroit (night game):
Unbeaten Ron Guidry posted his 12th straight victory as the Yankees beat the Tigers, 4-2. The ace lefty gave up a leadoff homer to Ron LeFiore in the first inning but stopped Tigers until the ninth when he was relieved by Rich Gossage after walking leadoff batter Jason Thompson. Gossage wild-pitched a run home before closing out the game. All the Yankee scoring came in the ninth. Reggie Jackson hit a one-out solo homer to tie the score and Chris Chambliss reached first on an error by second baseman Lou Whitaker. A single by Graig Nettles sent Chambliss to third and pinch-hitter Lou Piniella singled to center to plate Chambliss. An infield hit by Fred Stanley and bloop single by Roy White drove in the final two runs.

Orioles 10, Brewers 3 at Milwaukee (day game):
Posting their 18th victory in the last 20 games, the Orioles breezed past the Brewers, 10-3. Eddie Murray, who had three hits, homered after a walk to Rich Dauer in the first inning and drove in another run with a single in the sixth. Kiko Garcia had an RBI single in the first and doubled home two tallies in the sixth. Mike Flanagan won his sixth straight game and hurled his 10th complete game of the season.

Angels 4, Twins 2 at Minnesota (day game):
Ineffective relief pitching by Mike Marshall enabled the Angels to down the Twins, 4-2, in 12 innings. The Twins, led, 2-0, going into the seventh when Rance Mulliniks and Rick Miller got singles. Marshall relieved starter Gary Serum and gave up a walk to Dave Machemer and a two-run single to Joe Rudi. In the 12th frame, Lyman Bostock singled off Marshall with one out. After Rudi went down on strikes, Dan Baylor, Ken Landreaux and Ron Jackson pounded successive singles to give the Angels two runs and their winning margin.

Rangers 8, A's 2 at Texas (night game):
Blasting Mike Morgan off the mound in 2 1/3 innings, the Rangers rode roughshod over the A's, 8-2. The young righthander, just recently out of high school, was no puzzle to the Texans. In the first inning, Mike Hargrove singled, Bert Campaneris walked, Bump Wills hit a triple and Richie Zisk got a single. In the third frame, Wills bunted safely and stole second. After Zisk drew a walk, the Rangers worked a double steal to set up a two-run double by Bobby Bonds. A single by Pat Putnam moved Bonds to third and he scored on an errant pickoff throw by A's catcher Jim Essian.

Astros 4, Dodgers 3 at Los Angeles (day game):
A single by Enos Cabell with two out in the top of the ninth inning scored Terry Puhl from second base and gave the Astros a 4-3 triumph over the Dodgers. Puhl reached first on a base on balls with one out and was sacrificed to second. Cabell followed with his second hit and second RBI of the game. The Astros had tied the contest in the seventh on a leadoff double by Puhl, sacrifice by Jesus Alou and infield out by Cabell. The Dodgers scored an unearned run in the sixth after a homer by Joe Ferguson had lifted the Astros to a 2-2 tie in the top of the inning. Lee Lacy reached first on an error, stole second and came home on a single by Steve Yeager.

Expos 2, Mets 0 at New York (night game):
Wayne Garrett and Del Unser drove in the game's only runs to back the two-hit pitching of Hal Dues and Mike Garman in the Expos' 2-0 whitewashing of the Mets. Garrett hit a home run in the first inning and Unser singled home a marker in the fourth after a double by Tony Perez. Dues pitched the first five innings to gain credit for his first victory of the season.

Phillies 2, Cardinals 1 at Philadelphia (night game):
Garry Templeton's 21st error of the season was responsible for the winning run as the Phillies edged past the Cardinals, 2-1. The misplay came in the fourth inning when Larry Bowa walked, moved to second on Mike Schmidt's groundout and scored when Templeton made a wild throw to first on a grounder by Greg Luzinski. The Phillies' first run came in the second frame on a double by Luzinski and single by Richie Hebner. Keith Hernandez hit a homer in the eighth for the Cards' lone run off Steve Carlton.

Padres 2, Braves 0 at San Diego (day game):
With Bob Owchinko and Rollie Fingers combining on a five-hitter, the Padres blanked the Braves, 2-0. The Padres' first run came in the third when Rick Sweet walked, moved to second on a sacrifice by Owchinko and scored on a single by Ozzie Smith. Their second tally came in the fifth when Gene Richards beat out an infield single, continued to second on a throwing error and scored on a single by Derrel Thomas. Fingers entered the game in the eighth with two men on and two out and got Rowland Office on a pop fly.

Reds 5, Giants 0 at San Francisco (night game):
Thumping four pitchers for 13 hits, the Reds breezed to a 5-0 blanking of the Giants. The Reds got a pair of runs in their first turn at bat when Ken Griffey singled with one out and scored when Frisco center fielder Larry Herndon misplayed Dave Concepcion's single and then threw poorly to the infield for two errors on one play. Concepcion reached third and scored on a single by George Foster. The Reds' third run came in the fourth on two-out walks to Junior Kennedy and Don Werner and a single by Bill Bonham. Singles by Griffey, Concepcion and Foster scored one run in the seventh and another came home on a double-play ball.
