Today's scores and summaries:

[DH] Orioles 3, Blue Jays 1 (night game) / Orioles 8, Blue Jays 6 at Baltimore (night game):
In a battle of birds, the Orioles beat the Blue Jays twice, 3-1 and 8-6. In the first game, Mike Flanagan tossed a five-hitter for his 12th victory. The first Oriole run came on a homer by Andres Mora in the fifth inning. A double by Ken Singleton and groundout by Lee May drove in the Orioles' other runs in the sixth. The Jays came back from a 6-2 deficit in the second game to tie the contest with a four-run sixth inning, but the Orioles scored decisive runs in the bottom of seventh. Mora began the winning rally with a single and was replaced by pinch-runner Larry Harlow, who moved to third on a double by Doug DeCinces. Pat Kelly received an intentional walk to fill the sacks and Rick Dempsey then delivered a sacrifice fly to plate Harlow. Pinch-hitter Terry Crowley hit another sacrifice fly to produce an insurance tally.

Red Sox 9, White Sox 2 at Chicago (night game):
Two homers by Fred Lynn paced the Red Sox to a 9-2 thumping of the White Sox. Lynn's first circuit clout followed a single by Carl Yastrzemski in the fourth inning and his second blast led off the seventh stanza. Yastrzemski walloped a homer in the seventh, after a single by Rick Burleson and forceout by Jerry Remy, to cap the six-run frame.

Tigers 13, Indians 3 at Detroit (night game):
A seven-run outburst in the second inning propelled the Tigers to a 13-3 rout of the Indians. The Tribe committed three errors in the big frame, including a two-run throwing error by losing pitcher Rick Wise and pair by right fielder Paul Dade that led to two other runs. Lou Whitaker drove in one tally with a sacrifice fly and Rusty Staub capped the scoring binge with a two-run homer.

Royals 10, Angels 1 at Kansas City (night game):
Blasting Nolan Ryan, who just returned from the 21-day disabled list, the Royals romped over the Angels, 10-1, behind the six-hit pitching of Dennis Leonard. Doubles by Tom Poquette and Freddie Patek gave the Royals one run in the second and they added another in the third on singles by George Brett, Pete LaCock and Clint Hurdle. After Ryan walked the bases loaded in the fifth, Darrell Porter then singled home two tallies and Hurdle lofted a sacrifice fly to make it 5-1. A solo homer by Amos Otis and two-run triple by Hal McRae highlighted a four-run sixth inning and McRae hit a bases-empty circuit clout in the eighth.

Twins 3, Brewers 1 at Minnesota (night game):
Getting all their runs in the bottom of the fifth, the Twins completed the three-game series sweep by downing the Brewers, 3-1. Rod Carew and Mike Cubbage, each of whom had a perfect night at the plate, led off the fifth with consecutive singles. A sacrifice fly by Butch Wynegar plated Carew and Cubbage raced home on a triple by Dan Ford. A sacrifice fly by Rich Chiles scored Ford. The Brewer run came in the second on a single by Sal Bando, a stolen base, and a single by Robin Yount.

A's 5, Mariners 3 at Seattle (night game):
Taking over first place in the A. L. West, the A's topped the Mariners, 5-3, on a ninth-inning home run by Mario Guerrero. The A's led, 3-1, going into the bottom of the seventh, but the Mariners tied the contest with a pair of runs driven in on an infield out by Bill Stein and a single by Larry Milbourne. Guerrero's game-winning clout was preceded by an infield single by Dave Revering.

Rangers 3, Yankees 2 at Texas (night game):
The Rangers swept past the Yankees, 3-2, as Jon Matlack went the route for the ninth time this season. A single by Bobby Thompson opened the Ranger third and Bobby Bonds followed with a homer that cleared the 370-foot mark in left against a strong wind. In the eighth, Bonds singled and moved to third when losing pitcher Don Gullett made a throwing error on Toby Harrah's sacrifice attempt. Bonds was thrown out at the plate on a fielder's choice with Harrah moving to third. Richie Zisk then drove in the game-winning run with a grounder to right field.

Reds 2, Astros 1 at Cincinnati (night game):
Notching his first victory of the season, Paul Moskau allowed six hits over eight innings as the Reds edged the Astros, 2-1. Both of the Reds' runs came in the second inning on singles by George Foster and Dan Driessen, a sacrifice fly by Johnny Bench and a double by Cesar Geronimo. The Astros' lone tally came in the sixth stanza on doubles by Enos Cabell and Jose Cruz. A bunt single by Pete Rose in the seventh extended his hitting streak to 21 games.

Braves 9, Dodgers 8 at Los Angeles (night game):
The Braves staged a garrison finish, scoring six runs in the ninth inning to best the Dodgers, 9-8. The Dodgers led, 8-0, after five innings and were still ahead, 8-3, going into the top of the ninth. With one out, Pat Rockett and Darrel Chaney singled. A single by Jerry Royster scored Rockett and Bob Beall walked to load the bases. Charlie Hough relieved Lance Rautzhan and walked Gary Matthews to force in Chaney. Cito Gaston then reached first on an error by Steve Garvey that allowed Royster to score. Dale Murphy followed with a two-run double to tie the game. Barry Bonnell, batting against Terry Forster, stroked a single to score Gaston.

Phillies 7, Mets 5 at New York (night game):

The triple came in the fourth inning and drove in Garry Maddox, who had walked, with the Phillies' first run. After Luzinski scored on a single by Jose Cardenal, the Phils went on to add two more tallies in the inning to tie the score at 4-4. The Phils went ahead in the sixth when Cardenal singled, Davey Johnson walked and Barry Foote singled to load the bases. A single by Ted Sizemore scored Cardenal and pinch-hitter Bud Harrelson drew a walk to force home Johnson. Luzinski's homer was a solo blast and came in the seventh stanza.

Giants 5, Padres 4 at San Francisco (day game):
After blowing a 3-0 lead, the Giants came back to edge San Diego, 5-4, in 10 innings, snapping the Padres' four-game winning skein. The Padres led, 4-3, going into the bottom of the ninth when Willie McCovey blasted a two-out pinch-hit home run to effect a tie. In the 10th, Jack Clark doubled with one out and continued to third on a throwing error by Dave Winfield. Two intentional walks loaded the sacks and pinch-hitter Jim Dwyer then stroked a sacrifice fly to plate Clark with the winning run.
