Today's scores and summaries:

Blue Jays 2, Orioles 0 at Baltimore (night game):
Dave Lemanczyk and Mike Willis combined on a shutout as the Blue Jays bested the Orioles, 2-0. Lemanczyk scattered nine singles in 8 2/3 innings and was bailed out of a ninth-inning jam by Willis, who came in with two out and runners on second and third and struck out pinch-hitter Mike Anderson to end the game. The Jays scored their first run in the fifth on a single, a throwing error by Rick Dempsey, and a single by Bob Bailor. A double by Bailor and single by Rico Carty added an insurance marker in the eighth.

Red Sox 7, White Sox 6 at Chicago (night game):
A home run by Fred Lynn with one out in the 10th inning lifted the Red Sox past the White Sox, 7-6. Lynn's blast came on Jim Willoughby's first offering to the Red Sox outfielder. The White Sox tied the contest in the ninth on a leadoff homer by Bill Nahorodny, but missed a chance to win the game later in that same inning when Henry Cruz, attempting to score on a single to right by Jorge Orta, was thrown out at the plate on a relay from shortstop Rick Burleson.

Tigers 8, Indians 4 at Detroit (night game):
Getting six runs in the first two innings, the Tigers rolled over the Indians, 8-4. Three runs in the opening frame resulted from a homer by Jason Thompson with two mates aboard. In the second inning, Lance Parrish singled and was forced at second by Alan Trammell. When catcher Gary Alexander threw wildly on an attempted pickoff, Trammell went to third. After Ron LeFlore walked, Lou Whitaker singled home Trammell. A single by Rusty Staub drove in LeFlore and Whitaker crossed the plate as Thompson bounced into a fielder's choice. Bob Sykes relieved Tiger starter Jim Slaton in the third inning and allowed only one run the rest of the way though he needed help from John Hiller, who pitched a perfect inning and a third to pick up his ninth save.

Angels 9, Royals 2 at Kansas City (night game):
A grand slam by Joe Rudi capped a five-run first inning and led the Angels in a 9-2 thumping of the Royals. Rick Miller and Bobby Grich walked to start the game and a double by Lyman Bostock scored Miller. Don Baylor walked to load the bases, and Rudi, hitting .203 going into the game, crashed his eighth bases-loaded homer of his career.

Mariners 3, A's 2 at Seattle (night game):
A bases-loaded single by Tom Paciorek with two out in the seventh inning enabled the Mariners to defeat the A's, 3-2, for their first victory in 11 meetings between the clubs this season. The winning rally began with a single by Bruce Bochte, who was sacrificed to second. After Larry Milbourne received an intentional walk, Craig Reynolds then strolled on four straight pitches to load the sacks. Elias Sosa relieved starter John Henry Johnson and Paciorek then looped his hit to short center.

Yankees 7, Rangers 2 at Texas (night game):
Turning four errors into as many unearned runs, the Yankees dumped the Rangers, 7-2, behind the steady pitching of Dick Tidrow. The Yankees took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an infield hit by Mickey Rivers, triple by Roy White and sacrifice fly by Thurman Munson. In the second, after a walk to Gary Thomasson, Bobby Bonds misplayed Bucky Dent's double, allowing Thomasson to score. After Fred Stanley drew a walk, Jim Umbarger replaced Doc Medich on the mound. Rivers dribbled a grounder back to Umbarger, who threw to second for an attempted force play. But Bert Campaneris dropped the ball, loading the bases. A sacrifice fly by White then scored Dent. Graig Nettles led off the third with a single and scored when Bonds misplayed a single by Reggie Jackson, who scored on a single by Thomasson. The Yanks got another gift in the fourth when Umbarger threw widly past first on White's roller and Munson followed with an RBI single.

Dodgers 5, Braves 1 at Los Angeles (day game):
The first career grand slam by Davey Lopes in the 11th inning gave the Dodgers a 5-1 victory over the Braves. Steve Garvey opened the 11th with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice by Dusty Baker. After Rick Monday received an intentional walk, Johnny Oates reached first safely on an error by Jerry Royster. One out later, Lopes connected for the game-winning blow. The Braves led, 1-0, going into the ninth, but the Dodgers tied the score. With one out, Ron Cey and Garvey walked. Ted Martinez ran for Cey and scored when Baker greeted reliever Gene Garber with a single to right.

Mets 9, Cubs 6 at New York (night game):
A two-run double by Willie Montanez keyed a five-run sixth-inning that carried the Mets to a 9-6 victory over the Cubs. The winning rally began with singles by Tim Foli and Lee Mazzilli. Montanez then smashed a two-base hit off reliever Lynn McGlothen. John Stearns drew a base on balls and Steve Henderson doubled home Montanez with the tying run. Stearns scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch by reliever Donnie Moore and Henderson tallied the fifth run of the inning on an infield hit by Elliott Maddox. The Cubs built an early lead with Steve Ontiveros hitting an RBI double in the fourth and a two-run homer in the sixth.

Phillies 7, Expos 6 at Philadelphia (night game):
A homer by Greg Luzinski triggered a five-run second inning and Rawly Eastwick hurled 4 2/3 innings of one-hit relief as the Phillies slipped past the Expos, 7-6. After Luzinski's homer, Davey Johnson singled, Bob Boone reached first on an error by Larry Parrish and Ted Sizemore singled for one run. A single by Jim Kaat plated two more and a single by Jerry Martin drove in the fifth tally of the frame. The Phils added another run in the third on a double by Jose Cardenal and a single by Johnson. Boone's fielder's choice in the fifth produced what proved to be the winning run after the Phillies loaded the bases on a single by Garry Maddox, double by Luzinski and pass to Cardenal.

Giants 5, Padres 4 at San Francisco (night game):
A bases-loaded triple by Bill Madlock in the seventh inning brought the Giants a 5-4 triumph over the Padres. The Padres were ahead, 4-2, going into the seventh when Randy Jones, making his first relief appearance of the season, issued walks to Marc Hill and Terry Whitfield to open the inning. Both runners advanced on a sacrifice by Johnnie LeMaster and pinch-hitter Willie McCovey drew a walk. McCovey was replaced by pinch-runner Rob Andrews. Madlock then hit a line drive to the right-center fence to clear the bases.

Cardinals 3, Pirates 2 at St. Louis (night game):
An infield single by Garry Templeton, who scored on the play when the throw by shortstop Frank Taveras wound up in the right field bullpen, enabled the Cardinals to edge the Pirates, 3-2. The decisive play occurred in the fifth inning and gave the Redbirds a 3-0 lead, enough to withstand a two-run homer by Willie Stargell in the sixth. The first Card run came in the second on a double by Jerry Morales and single by Ken Reitz. The second tally came in the third on a two-out single by Keith Hernandez and a double by Ted Simmons.
