Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 8, Twins 6 at Baltimore (night game):
A home-run barrage by the Orioles upended the Twins, 8-6, ending Minnesota's eight-game winning streak. Ken Singleton slammed a solo blast in the first inning and added a two-run round-tripper in the third. Rich Dauer belted a bases-empty blow in the fifth and Doug DeCinces clouted a two-run smash in the sixth off reliever Johnny Sutton. Bird hurler Mike Flanagan held the Twins hitless until Dan Ford doubled with one out in the sixth inning. He was chased in the eighth after run-scoring singles by Rod Carew and Jose Morales.

Rangers 12, Red Sox 7 at Boston (night game):
Two homers by Toby Harrah, who knocked in five runs, highlighted a 17-hit attack that carried the Rangers to a 12-7 thumping of the Red Sox. Harrah had a solo blast in the second inning and connected with two on base in the seventh. The Rangers also got solo homers from Al Oliver, Bobby Bonds and Juan Beniquez. Oliver had four hits and drove in two runs with singles.

Angels 5, Blue Jays 0 at California (night game):
Thrust into the starting role by the failure of Chris Knapp to show up for the game, Don Aase pitched a four-hitter as the Angels blanked the Blue Jays, 5-0. The first Angel run came in the second inning on a two-out double by Carney Lansford and a single by Dave Chalk. The Angels picked up another marker in the fifth on a walk to Lansford and singles by Chalk and Brian Downing. Lansford singled in the seventh, stole second and scored on a single by Downing.

Brewers 13, Royals 2 at Milwaukee (night game):
Five hits by Don Money paced the Brewers to a 13-2 rout of the Royals. Money singled and scored in the first inning, hit a solo homer in the second, doubled and scored in the fourth, singled in the fifth and beat out an infield hit in the seventh. Mike Caldwell tossed a four-hitter in pitching his 12th complete game, tops in the league. A bases-loaded walk to Sixto Lezcano resulted in the first Brewer run in the opening inning and Robin Yount followed with a three-run triple. Money's circuit clout in the second made the score 5-0 and a third-inning sacrifice fly by Jim Wohlford and a two-run homer by Gorman Thomas improved the Brewers' lead to 8-0.

White Sox 6, Yankees 1 at New York (day game):
Despite a lineup personally selected by owner George Steinbrenner, the Yankees lost their sixth game in the last seven, bowing to the White Sox, 6-1, as veteran Wilbur Wood scattered six hits. The White Sox scored three runs in the third inning on singles by Chet Lemon, Eric Soderholm and Ralph Garr and rookie second baseman Damaso Garcia's wild throw on an infield hit by Jorge Orta. Claudell Washington blasted a two-run homer in the fifth. Bill Nahorodny tripled in the eighth and scored on a sacrifice fly by Henry Cruz.

A's 7, Indians 3 at Oakland (night game):
The A's ended their five-game losing streak with a 7-3 victory over the Indians. The A's scored four unearned runs in the second inning. Two-out singles by Tony Armas and Mike Adams and Tom Veryzer's error on Joe Wallis' roller filled the bases. A single by Taylor Duncan got two runs home and a double by Mitchell Page plated another pair. A homer by Dave Revering, a walk, stolen base, passed ball and throwing error by catcher Bo Diaz netted two more Oakland tallies in the sixth.

Mariners 5, Tigers 4 at Seattle (night game):
A four-run eighth inning enabled the Mariners to come from behind and capture a 5-4 victory over the Tigers. The Tigers led, 4-1, going into the bottom of the eighth when Tom Paciorek began the winning rally with a leadoff single. A bloop double by Bruce Bochte put runners at second and third and Leon Roberts followed with a home run to tie the score. Jim Crawford relieved starter Dave Rozema on the mound for the Tigers and was tagged for a single by Dan Meyer. Bill Stein drew a base on balls and after Crawford retired the next batter he was replaced by Steve Foucault, who was greeted with the deciding single by Larry Milbourne.

Padres 5, Cubs 2 at Chicago (day game):
Rookie Broderick Perkins hit his first major league homer and two singles, driving in two runs, to lead the Padres to a 5-2 triumph over the Cubs. Perkins hit his homer in the fourth inning and accounted for his other RBI with a single in the Padres' four-run sixth. Gaylord Perry opened the sixth with a single and reached third on a single by Gene Richards. A sacrifice by Ozzie Smith moved Richards to second and Perry scored on a wild pitch. Perkins' single plated Richards and sent Cub starter Rick Reuschel to the showers. Dave Winfield and Oscar Gamble singled off reliever Donnie Moore to get the third run home and, after an intentional walk, Fernando Gonzalez accounted for the fourth tally of the frame with a sacrifice fly.

Mets 4, Reds 2 at Cincinnati (night game):
Combining Cincinnati misplays with their own timely hitting, the Mets toppled the Reds, 4-2. The Mets' scoring against Tom Seaver began in the second when John Stearns singled, stole second, continued to third on catcher Johnny Bench's throwing error and scored when Steve Henderson's grounder was booted by shortstop Dave Concepcion. Henderson then stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Doug Flynn. A double by Flynn, sacrifice bunt by winning pitcher Jerry Koosman and sacrifice fly by Lenny Randle gave the Mets another marker in the fifth. Joel Youngblood led off the Mets' eighth by tagging reliever Manny Sarmiento's first pitch for a home run. The Reds' Pete Rose doubled in the seventh, extending his hitting streak to 26 games, one short of tying the club record.

Expos 6, Astros 0 at Montreal (night game):
Winning his first game since June 15, Ross Grimsley tossed a five-hitter as the Expos blanked the Astros, 6-0. The game was put on ice in the sixth inning. Dave Cash led off with a single, advanced to second on a sacrifice by Andre Dawson and scored on a single by Ellis Valentine. Singles by Tony Perez and Warren Cromartie brought Valentine around. A passed ball by Astro catcher Luis Pujols resulted in a third run and a double by Gary Carter drove in the fourth tally.

Giants 4, Pirates 0 at Pittsburgh (night game):
The third shutout of the season by lefty Bob Knepper carried the Giants to a 4-0 victory over the Pirates. The Giants scored twice in the second inning on successive two-out singles by Larry Herndon, Johnnie LeMaster, Marc Hill and Knepper and added two more runs in the fourth on a leadoff homer by Mike Ivie and singles by Herndon, LeMaster and Hill.

Cardinals 6, Dodgers 1 at St. Louis (night game):
The cellar-dwelling Cardinals scored one of their infrequent victories by beating the Dodgers, 6-1, behind the five-hit pitching of John Denny. The first Cardinal run came in the second inning when Jerry Morales got a two-out infield single, reached second on a throwing error by third baseman Ron Cey and scored on a single by Ken Reitz. The Redbirds added another in the fourth on a walk to Ted Simmons, double by George Hendrick and single by Mike Tyson. Simmons belted a two-run homer in the seventh and Jerry Mumphrey singled home the Cards' final two markers in the eighth.
