Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 5, Twins 1 at Baltimore (night game):
Snapping his personal four-game losing streak, Scott McGregor pitched the Orioles to a 5-1 victory over the Twins. Doug DeCinces knocked in three runs with a double and single. In the fifth, DeCinces' double accounted for two runs in an inning that saw the Orioles score four times with the aid of other doubles by Mark Belanger and Eddie Murray.

Rangers 4, Red Sox 3 at Boston (night game):
A double by Mike Hargrove and single by Bump Wills in the eighth inning provided the Rangers with their deciding run in a 4-3 victory over the Red Sox. Bert Campaneris started the Rangers' scoring with his first homer of the season in the fifth. After Hargrove walked and Toby Harrah singled in the sixth, Bobby Bonds added two runs with a double. Dwight Evans hit two homers and Fred Lynn one to account for the Red Sox scoring.

Angels 3, Blue Jays 2 at California (night game):
Coming through with his eighth pinch hit in 22 tries this season, Tony Solaita drove in a run with a bases-loaded single in the 11th inning to give the Angels a 3-2 victory over the Blue Jays. Nolan Ryan, who pitched the first nine innings for the Angels, struck out 13, marking the 110th time in his career that Ryan had fanned 10 or more in one game. Rico Carty, who had three of the Blue Jays' six hits, singled in the second and scored on a double by Tommy Hutton. The Angels matched that run in their half with a double by Don Baylor, an infield out and a sacrifice fly by Carney Lansford. Carty put the Blue Jays ahead again with a homer in the sixth, but the Angels tied the score once more when Lyman Bostock hit for the circuit in their half. In the 11th, Ron Jackson and Baylor singled. Ken Landreaux sacrificed and Lansford drew an intentional pass to load the bases before Solaita ended the game with his pinch hit.

Royals 9, Brewers 2 at Milwaukee (night game):
Becoming a 10-game winner in his rookie year, Rich Gale pitched the Royals to a 9-2 victory over the Brewers. Gale was in trouble only in the sixth inning when the Brewers scored two unearned runs to take a 2-1 lead. The Royals came back with a pair in the seventh on a walk to Freddie Patek, single by Frank White, sacrifice fly by Hal McRae and single by Pete LaCock. Three more runs in the eighth, including a pair on a bases-loaded single by LaCock, and three in the ninth iced the game.

Yankees 7, White Sox 6 at New York (night game):
Reggie Jackson doubled in the 11th inning and scored on a single by Graig Nettles to bring the Yankees a 7-6 victory over the White Sox. Eric Soderholm hit two homers for the White Sox, each with a man on base. The Yankees averted what could have been their fifth straight defeat when Cliff Johnson hit a pinch-homer in the ninth inning to tie the score at 6-6. The blow was the third of the game for the Yankees, who also had round-trippers by Lou Piniella and Thurman Munson.

Indians 11, A's 1 at Oakland (night game):
Backed by the Indians' 16-hit attack, Rick Wise breezed to an 11-1 victory over the A's. The Indians' hits included a three-run homer by Andre Thornton in the seventh inning and a two-run drive by Johnny Grubb in the eighth. Wise lost his bid for a shutout when the A's counted in the ninth on a double by Willie Horton and single by Jeff Newman.

Tigers 2, Mariners 0 at Seattle (night game):
A home run by rookie Lance Parrish broke up a scoreless game in the seventh inning and Jim Slaton tossed a 7-hit shutout as the Tigers took a 2-0 win from the Mariners.

Braves 7, Phillies 2 at Atlanta (night game):
With scoring support from Dale Murphy, who batted in four runs with two homers, Phil Niekro posted his 10th victory as the Braves defeated the Phillies, 7-2. Murphy's first homer accounted for three of the Braves' five runs off Steve Carlton in the first inning. Murphy added a solo swat in the third and Jeff Burroughs hit for the circuit in the seventh.

Padres 9, Cubs 5 at Chicago (day game):
Fernando Gonzalez drove in five runs with his first two homers of the season to power the Padres to a 9-5 victory over the Cubs. Gene Tenace also homered for the Padres. The Cubs had round-trippers by Dave Roberts, their losing pitcher, and Larry Biittner. The Cubs chased both Eric Rasmussen and Mickey Lolich while rallying for three runs in the seventh inning, but Rollie Fingers came in and gained his 20th save. Fingers' performance enabled Rasmussen to pick up his sixth straight victory and the first of his career over the Cubs to whom he had lost six times.

Reds 6, Mets 3 at Cincinnati (night game):
Breaking a 3-3 tie, the Reds erupted for three runs in the seventh inning and defeated the Mets, 6-3. Pete Rose batted safely in his 27th straight game, hitting singles in the first and third innings, to tie the Reds' club record shared by Vada Pinson and Edd Roush. Elliott Maddox, John Stearns and Joel Youngblood homered for the Mets. Rose's first single of the game drove in Cesar Geronimo, who had doubled, and started the Reds' scoring. The Reds' winning outburst in the seventh began with a single by Ken Griffey and a pass to Joe Morgan. George Foster struck out, but Dan Driessen broke the tie with a triple and Johnny Bench added an insurance run with a double.

[DH] Astros 4, Expos 3 (night game) / Astros 5, Expos 4 at Montreal (night game):
Relieving in both games, Ken Forsch gained two victories when the Astros won a pair of extra-inning contests from the Expos in a twi-night doubleheader, 4-3 and 5-4. Forsch turned in a masterful performance in the opener, taking over in the 12th inning with the bases loaded and pitching out of a jam by striking out Stan Papi and Del Unser and getting Andre Dawson on a pop fly. The Astros then won the game in the 13th when Terry Puhl walked, Enos Cabell sacrificed and Jose Cruz singled. In the nightcap, Luis Pujols hit his first major league homer for the Astros, connecting with a man on base, while the Expos had round-trippers by Ellis Valentine and Andre Dawson. Forsch pitched the eighth and ninth innings in relief of Mark Lemongello and gained his second victory of the night when the Astros scored in the 10th on a pass with the bases loaded. Denny Walling walked to open the overtime frame, Art Howe singled and Dave Bergman drew a pass before Jesus Alou batted for Forsch and walked.

Pirates 5, Giants 2 at Pittsburgh (night game):
The batting of Bill Robinson, who drove in four runs with a homer, double and sacrifice fly, enabled the Pirates to defeat the Giants, 5-2. After Robinson's double produced the Pirates' initial run in the first inning, the Giants went ahead with consecutive RBI doubles by Johnnie LeMaster and Marc Hill in the second. But Robinson then put the game in the Pirates' winning column by hitting a homer in the third to score behind John Milner, who was on base with a double.

Cardinals 4, Dodgers 1 at St. Louis (night game):
Don Sutton, who was seeking his 200th career victory, was accused of pitching a "defaced" ball and was ejected in a game that the Dodgers lost to the Cardinals, 4-1. Chief umpire Doug Harvey banished Sutton after Mike Tyson had flied out in the Cardinals' half of the seventh inning. At the time of his departure, Sutton was losing, 2-1. Reggie Smith homered for the Dodgers in the first, but they collected only two more hits off Pete Vuckovich during the rest of the game. The Cards tied the score in their half of the first on a single by George Hendrick and double by Ted Simmons before going ahead in the sixth with a single by Garry Templeton, a stolen base and a single by Hendrick. Bob Welch was nicked for two extra runs in the eighth on a single by Templeton, triple by Tony Scott and a wild pitch.
