Today's scores and summaries:

Orioles 3, Brewers 2 at Baltimore (night game):
Eddie Murray's 21st homer of the season, coming with two out in the 10th inning, powered the Orioles to a 3-2 victory over the Brewers. Ken Singleton also homered in the fourth for the Orioles' first run. Larry Hisle hit a sacrifice fly for his 77th RBI of the season to put the Brewers ahead, 2-1, in the sixth, but the Orioles tied the score with singles by Rich Dauer and Lee May around a sacrifice bunt by Singleton in the eighth.

Angels 8, A's 1 at California (night game):
While Paul Hartzell pitched a three-hitter, the Angels got scoring punch from Ken Landreaux, Jim Anderson and Don Baylor to defeat the A's, 8-1. Landreaux homered with a man on base in the second inning. Anderson lined a three-run double in the third and Baylor plated a pair with a single in the seventh.

Tigers 5, White Sox 4 at Detroit (night game):
A two-out single by Ron LeFlore with the bases loaded in the 10th inning scored Lance Parrish and brought the Tigers a 5-4 victory over the White Sox. Earlier in the game, LeFiore stole his 49th and 50th bases of the season. Eric Soderholm homered for the White Sox, while the Tigers had round-trippers by Rusty Staub and Milt May. In the 10th, Steve Kemp singled and Parrish was hit by a pitch. Tim Corcoran bunted and was safe when Jorge Orta dropped the throw, covering first. After a strikeout and a forceout at the plate, LeFlore won the game with his scoring single.

Red Sox 8, Yankees 1 at New York (night game):
Snapping out of their slump, the Red Sox not only won the completion of the previous night's suspended game, 7-5, by scoring two runs in the 17th inning, but then proceeded to beat the Yankees in the regularly-scheduled contest that followed, 8-1. The August 2 game was halted after 14 innings with the score tied, 5-5. The Yankees once held a 5-0 lead before the Red Sox rallied to pull even. Two of their runs came on passes with the bases loaded and the tying tally counted in the eighth on a double by Jim Rice, a wild pitch by Rich Gossage and a sacrifice fly by Carl Yastrzemski. In the 17th, Dwight Evans, Butch Hobson, Rick Burleson and Rice hit singles to provide the Red Sox with their winning pair. Playing the regularly-scheduled game, Rice homered with a man on base in the fifth inning, and Fred Lynn connected with a man aboard in the third -- his first homer ever in Yankee Stadium.

Mariners 6, Twins 5 at Seattle (night game):
A single by Larry Milbourne with two out in the ninth inning scored pinch-runner Craig Reynolds and gave the Mariners a 6-5 victory over the Twins. A three-run homer by Leon Roberts in the first inning helped the Mariners take a 4-1 lead, but the Twins caught up at 4-4 and then tied the score again at 5-5 when Roy Smalley hit for the circuit in the ninth. In the Mariners' half, Bruce Bochte drew a walk from Mike Marshall, Reynolds ran for him and came around to score on singles by Julio Cruz and Milbourne.

Cubs 3, Cardinals 2 at Chicago (day game):
Continuing their season-long mastery, the Cubs defeated the Cardinals for the 12th straight time, posting a 3-2 victory. The Cards took a 2-1 lead before a muscle spasm forced Ken Holtzman's departure after the lefthander had pitched five innings. The Cubs tied the score with an unearned run in their half of the fifth and pushed across the deciding marker in the seventh on a walk to Rodney Scott, a passed ball and a single by Bill Buckner.

Giants 5, Dodgers 4 at San Francisco (night game):
After an inside-the-park homer by Lee Lacy tied the score in the ninth inning, the Giants came back with a run in their half and defeated the Dodgers, 5-4. Willie McCovey homered to account for two of the Giants' three runs in the first inning. A double by Bill Madlock and single by Jack Clark made it 4-0 in the second, but the Dodgers rallied for three runs in the fourth on a triple by Steve Garvey, infield out by Dusty Baker, double by Ron Cey and singles by Rick Monday and Vice Davalillo. Lacy's homer as a pinch-hitter in the ninth was disputed by the Giants, who claimed Larry Herndon caught the ball after colliding with Clark. Manager Joe Altobelli was ejected. In the Giants' half, Terry Whitfield walked and Hector Cruz sacrificed. After an interntional pass to Mike Ivie, Darrell Evans lined a single to win the game.
